00:00 >> Can you describe what happened?
00:08 >> Yeah, we were in a couple of suits,
00:10 they threw the flat to the running back, a little fair route.
00:14 And it just opened up for me to go make the hit.
00:17 And I guess maybe he lowered his head or
00:20 tried to go low, I went low too, and there was a big collision.
00:26 And I guess the ball came off too, I don't even know, but that happened.
00:32 And I'm just praying for him to make sure he's all right.
00:36 I said my peace token when he was on the stretcher.
00:38 But I love him, and I'm not much of a stretcher man, I hope he has a speedy
00:42 recovery.
00:43 >> People ran out on the field and said he was dead.
00:45 Could you tell he was seriously hurt or- >> Yeah, yeah, I could tell.
00:50 And I mean, the moment I seen number four just running down the sideline,
00:54 and I was like, I looked back, I was like, number two caught the ball.
00:57 I was like, so why four has to fall?
01:00 And then dad, so then I realized that he was down for the count.
01:05 And number four is up too.
01:07 >> Cool, Devin, huge interception by you.
01:11 What did you see on that play?
01:12 You know, on the receivers, the bang bang play, but
01:14 what did you see coming in for you?
01:15 >> I'll be honest, I was just looking for, that's their guy.
01:19 He's a really good receiver.
01:21 He's played a really good game.
01:22 And I saw Quincy was on, and I was just like, right before it goes out,
01:27 I was just like, I'll scream with him, though I'm here in the middle of the field.
01:31 So as soon as he broke, I broke too, and I saw the ball and I took it.
01:34 I was like, in the moment I was like, but he just caught the ball.
01:38 That was nice, nice little play.
01:42 >> This one's for both of you guys.
01:43 You've had close games where you really had to dig forward against Indiana,
01:47 Georgia Tech, add this one to the list.
01:49 What do you think it is about your team that you're able to kind of not lose
01:52 confidence and still finish games?
01:54 >> I feel like the thing about those situations is the way we practice.
02:05 In practice, it's always like you get one chance to do it right, or
02:10 it doesn't happen again.
02:12 And I feel like that transfers over to the games, because in practice,
02:15 you're stressed out.
02:16 You're like, I gotta make this play.
02:17 I can't let them catch the ball.
02:18 And in the game, of course, you're gonna feel the same way.
02:20 It's a stressful environment.
02:22 One play, no do over.
02:23 So I feel like just having that situational awareness in practice and
02:27 it translates to the game is really beneficial to our team overall.
02:30 That's the season we've been going.
02:32 >> I second that motion.
02:34 It's the way we practice.
02:35 I mean, to be honest, I mean, should we practice two minutes?
02:39 We practice a guard by six down, and we have to make those plays.
02:43 I mean, they put us in situations in practice that we have to be successful
02:48 in the end, and I mean, they put pressure on us in practice.
02:51 And you can see that we come through during the game.
02:54 And then also, we never turn our back on the offense.
02:57 The offense never turn their back on us.
02:59 And I think that's the best thing about this team.
03:02 We play for each other.
03:03 And it's the next play after a big play or after something has gone away.
03:09 We erase that and get back on the field and play our ball.
03:11 >> This is for both of you guys.
03:14 The defensive start today playing so well.
03:17 Then of course, Virginia got a little bit of momentum.
03:20 But once Jack hit Amari and got that big touchdown,
03:24 what was the conversation amongst the defense?
03:25 Cuz you all came out, got the two big stops to end the game.
03:28 What was the conversation on the defensive side once you guys got it back
03:32 scored, tied 24-0?
03:34 >> Well, honestly, nothing really changed.
03:36 We had the same mentality down or up.
03:39 We were just like, stay positive, stay positive, shoot off and taunt.
03:43 We just regrouped as a defense and we got to get stops.
03:46 Which that was just the emphasis going.
03:49 When we went up, we were just like, we gotta maintain this and
03:51 just keep doing what we've been doing.
03:52 Just try to do the best we can to keep everything under control.
03:56 >> I got kind of a two-parter here.
04:01 One, Cam, I was wondering your experience at Virginia,
04:05 if any of that kind of played out tonight.
04:07 And two, if both of y'all could just chime in on, if there was a sense,
04:12 even when you guys were up 14 to nothing, that you really hadn't put them away.
04:17 Like they were still gonna get in the game.
04:20 >> [INAUDIBLE] >> Yeah, no, definitely.
04:24 I mean, I know these guys pretty well.
04:26 I spent the whole spring with them.
04:29 And I definitely knew what they wanted to do and
04:32 their emphasis on who they wanted to respond to and all that.
04:35 And I mean, I just wanted to go out there and play.
04:40 But I mean, to be honest, yeah, I know the guys pretty well.
04:44 And the routes and stuff, I mean, Malik got me one time on his own cover.
04:49 But hey, we never talked about that.
04:51 >> [LAUGH] >> But nah, shoot,
04:54 what was the second part again?
04:56 Yeah, put them away.
04:57 Yeah, so nah, when we were up 14-0, I was yellow on the side.
05:03 I'm like, hey, all gas, no brakes.
05:05 Because that's a team that puts teams like this in the dogfight, as y'all seen.
05:13 I mean, to be honest, that might seem to be a carry on, that you see that.
05:17 And you see them go toe to toe with Miami.
05:19 And then, shoot, we knew they were gonna give us their best.
05:22 I mean, who wouldn't, you know what I'm saying?
05:25 They had nothing to lose.
05:26 And also, them boys stay positive.
05:30 They play for one another.
05:31 And shoot, I'm just glad we play for one another.
05:34 And all right, I'll let him go back to the dug.
05:38 >> For both of you guys, specifically on the defensive side,
05:45 you guys have dominated going into this game.
05:48 To face adversity for the first time in a couple games, is that almost good for
05:51 this team to kind of open the eyes, knowing that there are teams ahead that
05:55 will put their best out against you,
05:57 kind of as you guys touched on in the previous question?
05:59 >> That was very good.
06:00 I feel like you don't wanna cakewalk through the schedule.
06:04 You just, you need bad things to happen to build that character for your team.
06:11 So I feel like little moments like this really builds our character as a defense.
06:15 Gives us a backbone, builds us up in many different ways that we wouldn't get if we
06:19 didn't go through this.
06:20 So I feel like this is gonna be beneficial in the later part of the season when,
06:24 of course, every game matters.
06:26 So it's gonna be something on the line every time.
06:28 Everybody's gonna be bringing their best, their best foot forward, everything.
06:32 So this is really good going into it.
06:34 >> Yeah, I second that motion.
06:36 I mean, so being in the dogfight like that, it speaks volumes to the character of
06:41 this team and also just shows that we still have a lot to improve on the ball.
06:47 So that we're willing to improve and that we're willing to go out there and
06:51 make those plays and then keep our nose into the game and not get distracted.
06:56 It's just awesome to focus.
06:58 And I mean, we kept it in the pressure as president.
07:00 And I mean, sure, that's what we gotta keep on doing against any good team.
07:05 We know we're gonna get the best from everybody.
07:06 And we gotta put our best foot forward and then keep going.
07:10 >> Dominic, last question for you, Cam.
07:13 You just kinda mentioned staying focused.
07:15 The fact that you guys are in the driver's seat to try to play for
07:18 an ACC championship, is that stuff that you guys aren't thinking about or
07:21 even talking about?
07:22 Or you're trying to keep it tuned out and just kinda focus?
07:25 >> No, definitely.
07:26 I mean, we hear the outside noise about it.
07:28 But to be honest, like Coach said, Coach Engles always says,
07:31 it's all about the pressure's present.
07:34 We're not worried about the championship right now.
07:37 We'll play for that later.
07:38 You know what I'm saying?
07:39 But it's all about the next one.
07:41 UVA was the next one, now it's Miami.
07:44 And we wanna focus about them.
07:45 >> All right, thank you.
