00:00 Hi there, it was a blustery and in some places showery start to Friday with some thunderstorms
00:06 across parts of southern England. That's all clearing away now and actually it's an improving
00:10 picture for the rest of the day and indeed as we head into the start of the weekend there
00:13 will be plenty of fine weather out there. There will be plenty of fine weather for many
00:18 on Friday afternoon especially through parts of the Midlands, Northern England, Southern
00:21 Scotland. Elsewhere rather a lot of cloud as this system clears from the south east
00:27 and further showers arrive into the north and west. Perhaps some longer spells of rain
00:32 later in the afternoon for Northern Scotland along with a brisk breeze. But the winds generally
00:37 easing during the afternoon so for most it's a fine bright autumn afternoon. Now into the
00:44 evening we're going to see those winds continue to ease. The winds though are coming from
00:48 the north so they're bringing cold air and that means the showers will be falling as
00:52 snow over the Scottish mountains and it also means that under any clear spells where the
00:57 winds do ease we'll see a frost overnight with temperatures even in towns and cities
01:03 in the south falling close to freezing with 1-3 Celsius likely and in many sheltered parts
01:10 of the countryside we'll see those temperatures dip below freezing. So a fairly widespread
01:14 frost first thing. A few fog patches as well here and there but there'll also be a fair
01:18 amount of cloud especially in the east and some showers continuing to feed into Northern
01:23 Scotland, parts of the north of Northern Ireland, North West England, West Wales for example.
01:28 So we'll see one or two showers first thing this day but actually plenty of fine and bright
01:33 weather, a chill out there first thing but hardly any wind because we're in between areas
01:38 of low pressure, one low clearing. The next low starting to arrive and sending a weather
01:43 front in from the south west but this is a slow moving feature so not really affecting
01:49 most places until much later in the day. As we start things plenty of sunny spells once
01:54 then the early mist and fog has cleared away and the showers actually ease through the
01:59 day as the gap between weather systems arrives and so for many light winds, plenty of sunny
02:06 spells, it's a fine crisp autumn day. We'll rule out a continued shower or two for the
02:11 north of Scotland, one or two elsewhere perhaps but for the vast majority it is a sunny afternoon.
02:18 Light winds as well making it feel pleasant enough with temperatures reaching 9-11C, it's
02:22 a little below the seasonal average. However, down towards the south west the winds are
02:27 picking up at this stage and the rain is arriving into the Scilly Isles and just approaching
02:32 the far south west of Cornwall. You'll see the high level cloud approaching as well ahead
02:37 of that across parts of the south west and south Wales. This rain will slowly move into
02:43 parts of Cornwall through the evening and overnight, some heavy bursts of rain and a
02:48 strong wind as well blowing from the south east. Elsewhere we keep the clear skies, we
02:52 keep the light winds and so a fairly widespread frost across Scotland, northern and eastern
02:58 England, the Midlands, north Wales and Northern Ireland as well as some mist and fog to wake
03:02 up to in places, some dense fog around in fact on, remember, Sunday. Now that fog will
03:08 take some time to lift as opposed to Saturday and in fact it will stay grey for much of
03:13 the day for Northern Ireland, central and south western as well as parts of Wales. Increasingly
03:20 cloudy for the south east of England although very little rain here and plenty of bright
03:25 weather for Scotland, north east England for example with the sunshine holding on. But
03:31 elsewhere it's turning increasingly unsettled, the early damp weather pushed aside by heavier
03:36 and more persistent rain arriving into the afternoon along with a strengthening wind.
03:41 So that's going to make it feel a bit more unpleasant I should imagine but actually temperatures
03:47 are turning higher because of the more unsettled weather arriving from the Atlantic. It's another
03:52 cool crisp day meanwhile for Scotland, for parts of north east England and perhaps into
03:58 east Anglia. Nevertheless the weather turns increasingly unsettled at times through the
04:03 start of next week but before all that happens at least a fine weekend for many.
