00:00 Roseline spent about P102 for a dozen eggs, the same price she used to pay for half a tray.

00:07 She says she only gets to buy this much when she has extra money.

00:11 Before, I could buy 6 pesos, 7 pesos, now it's P50.

00:18 If I had a budget, I could buy half of it.

00:22 I can only afford 12 pieces.

00:25 Francis, a caterer we chanced upon at the market, says he can no longer afford a tray of eggs.

00:31 The price per piece, he says, went up from P8 to P9.50.

00:38 Before, I didn't feel that the cost of a dish with eggs was high.

00:52 But now, I have to do cost cutting because it's too high.

00:59 Latest data from the Agriculture Department shows medium-sized eggs now cost up to P9.50, up from P8.50 last week.

01:10 The Philippine Egg Board Association says the average farm gate price is around P7.00.

01:16 So for the group, the P9.50 selling price per piece in the market is already too high with eggs usually sold by volume.

01:25 It notes prices may continue soaring during the holidays.

01:29 Aside from higher demand, the egg board says, slight increases at the farm gate level translate to even higher retail prices.

01:37 It also cites lower supply partly because of avian influenza or bird flu.

01:42 The same goes for egg vendor Ome, directly sourcing from poultry farms in Batangas.

01:48 He says his capital for eggs went up by at least P5.00 per tray.

01:53 We're reducing our orders because eggs are more expensive now.

01:57 Maybe because of the farm, maybe because of the chickens.

02:06 To address the spread of bird flu, the DA has released guidelines allowing the commercial use of vaccines.

02:13 Among the priority groups, 10 regions with extensive cases and major economic poultry centers like Calabarzon and the Davao region.

02:22 But the DA is still waiting for the import clearance from the Food and Drug Administration to secure the doses.

02:28 Seven regions still have bird flu cases nationwide.
