00:00 You see, he lives in you.
00:06 Welcome to MissMojo, and today we're looking at the Disney movies that will draw you in,
00:11 even if your childlike wonder isn't as present as it once was.
00:15 We're only including fully animated movies under the Disney banner.
00:19 Yes, Pixar counts, so live action movies won't qualify.
00:23 Sorry Mary Poppins.
00:24 And since plot points are being discussed, a spoiler alert is in effect.
00:29 My son was taken away from me.
00:32 No way.
00:34 Number 10.
00:35 Encanto.
00:36 Encanto is a great watch for audiences thanks to its colorful palette and catchy songs.
00:41 But the songs also contain deeper themes of loneliness, generational trauma, and the pressures
00:47 of adapting.
00:58 Movies complement the story's overall message of accepting people for who they are, no matter
01:02 how special or ordinary they might be.
01:06 Adults will recognize the big message of breaking generational trauma, something many of us
01:10 are currently taking it upon ourselves to do.
01:14 Meanwhile, the film's soundtrack embraces Hispanic culture to the fullest, warmly
01:28 inviting viewers into Colombian life and culture.
01:31 While Encanto does have fantastical elements like other Disney movies, adults can spot
01:36 the symbolism easily and see themselves within the characters through their various stages
01:40 of life.
01:53 Number 9.
01:54 The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
01:56 There's arguably no Disney animated film with darker material than this one, which
02:01 makes it suitable for older audiences.
02:04 Remember when Frollo tries to drop baby Quasimodo in a well?
02:20 Quasimodo's story continues to be wracked with tribulations as he grows up, facing isolation
02:25 from the rest of the world.
02:27 Older viewers can understand how it feels to be left out, especially when a person simply
02:32 wants to be accepted.
02:45 Adults are also better placed to appreciate Notre Dame's mature themes of justice and
02:49 fighting the evils of lust.
02:51 As children, we're afraid of Frollo's general demeanor.
02:55 As adults, we know just how fiendish he truly is.
03:09 It's no wonder the impact of the villain's defeat and Quasi's acceptance into society
03:14 brings such a strong feeling of catharsis.
03:17 Number 8.
03:18 Coco.
03:19 While Coco has young Miguel at its center, remembering past family members is a lesson
03:24 better suited for those with greater life experience.
03:27 It also appeals to the naivety and optimism many people lose as the years go by.
03:41 Miguel's pursuit of his passion for music encourages his close ones to think beyond
03:46 their habitual way of life, injecting their family with a lot more love and laughter by
03:50 the film's end.
03:52 Of course, there's the additional theme of dealing with regret as Miguel's ancestor
03:56 Hector comes to terms with his untimely demise.
04:08 The movie wraps all the fun of a Mexican fiesta with hard-hitting questions about life, death,
04:13 and what it means to have an enduring legacy.
04:26 Number 7.
04:27 Zootopia.
04:28 No matter how old you are, slow-talking sloths at the DMV will always be funny.
04:43 Underneath all the humor, though, Zootopia delivers a genuine lesson about the dangers
04:51 of prejudice, exclusion, and unchecked power, as well as the importance of tolerance.
04:56 The unfair judgment of predators, along with the palpable political tensions in Zootopia,
05:02 paint a pretty real picture.
05:17 The film is designed to be thought-provoking to viewers, as we see a deeper side of each
05:21 of the characters.
05:22 Fortunately, Nick and Judy's perfect chemistry and regular jokes prevent Zootopia from being
05:28 too morbid.
05:29 Still, grown-ups will finish the film feeling just as moved as they are entertained.
05:43 Number 6.
05:45 Toy Story 3.
05:46 Chances are, adults watching Toy Story 3 were kids back when the first two movies were released.
05:51 Because of this, the film's topic of transitioning from one chapter of life into another hits
05:57 close to home.
06:07 Woody and the gang's mission to return to their owner is easy to root for, but this
06:12 is the film's way of preparing us for the big goodbye.
06:15 Toy Story 3 is a heartwarming tear-jerker for balancing both nostalgia and maturity
06:20 at the same time.
06:32 Just like Andy, everybody has to grow up someday, which means moving on in some way.
06:38 Goodbyes are also inevitable, and watching Woody bid farewell to Andy is as real as it
06:42 gets.
06:45 Number 5.
06:47 Inside Out.
06:48 It's hard to understand what goes on inside someone's mind.
06:51 Inside Out seeks to represent the many layers of a person's emotions and how they might
06:56 inform their decision-making process.
06:59 Sure, there are some moments of comedy the kids might appreciate a bit more, like the
07:13 over-the-top mannerisms of joy, sadness, disgust, fear, and anger.
07:18 But we've all been where Riley is at some point.
07:21 Much like her, the average viewer can recall what it's like when big changes happen in
07:25 their lives.
07:26 Meanwhile, parents can be reminded what it was like to be Riley's age, and how it's
07:40 sometimes difficult to express thoughts and feelings to grown-ups.
07:43 Inside Out's depiction of a person's emotional depth is a nice reminder about the importance
07:48 of empathy.
08:00 Number 4.
08:02 The Lion King.
08:03 It's easy to get wrapped up in the lighter side of The Lion King.
08:07 Songs like "I Just Can't Wait to be King" and "Takuna Matata" throw a warm rose-colored
08:12 haze over everything.
08:24 That said, the film is heavy with realistic struggles of depression, envy, and dealing
08:29 with the reality of death.
08:31 Simba is forced to confront the consequences of his actions, both at a young age and as
08:36 a fully grown lion.
08:48 Although his journey is sidestepped by his time running away from his worries, The Lion
08:52 King is ultimately about taking responsibility and learning from the past.
08:56 There's also the gorgeously animated backdrop of Africa, and Hans Zimmer's magnificent
09:02 soundtrack that will capture anyone's attention.
09:14 Number 3.
09:15 WALL-E. Pixar has always prided itself on carrying a strong story with an equally moving
09:21 message.
09:22 WALL-E might seem more like a love story to younger audiences, but grown-ups will get
09:27 references to the dangers of harmful human impact on the environment.
09:41 Through the eyes of the protagonist, we see the Earth after it's ravaged by mankind's
09:45 neglect.
09:46 But there's also a definite sense of hope, as WALL-E and Eve's adventures end up giving
09:51 people another chance to start over.
10:02 With the power of compassion and teamwork, the characters prove that even a dystopian
10:06 future can be overcome.
10:07 Plus, yeah, we'll admit, there's just something heartwarming about watching a pair of robots
10:12 fall in love.
10:24 Number 2.
10:25 UP.
10:26 On the face of it, a movie about an old man, a child, and a flying house sounds pretty
10:31 slapstick.
10:32 But the magic of storytelling pushes UP to the highest level of success.
10:49 The opening is all the reminder viewers need that this is a solid tale of loss, grief,
10:55 and trying to move on.
10:56 One half of an older couple passing is a unique kind of hurt, and it's represented so perfectly.
11:03 More than that, Carl and Russell's unlikely dynamic is a winning formula for their personal
11:08 growth.
11:18 As Carl learns, having a child around can provide a much-needed perspective that adults
11:23 otherwise overlook.
11:25 UP teaches viewers that getting older doesn't mean giving up, but preparing yourself for
11:30 the next big adventure.

11:58 Number 1.
11:59 Finding Nemo
12:00 Disney took a stab at a father-son story with the Goofy movie, which remains memorable in
12:06 its own right.
12:17 But Finding Nemo is where the challenges of being a parent are truly represented.
12:22 Clownfish Marlon's journey to bring his son back appeals to younger and older audiences.
12:38 While kids are charmed by the quirky characters, adults see this for what it is - a single
12:43 parent whose child has gone missing.
12:46 Parents immediately sympathize with Marlon's over-protectiveness, and along the way, they
12:50 too might just learn an important lesson - it's healthy to give children a little space and
12:55 freedom.
12:56 Who knew a film about fish could be such a perfect template for parenthood?
