00:06 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the Disney films that bring us back to our childhoods.
00:12 [Music]
00:18 Number 10. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
00:22 "I shrunk the kids."
00:23 "What?"
00:24 "And the Thompson kids too, they're about this big, they're in the backyard."
00:27 "What?!"
00:28 "Threw them out with the trash. Stay here, I'll get the door."
00:32 One of the best parts of being a child is that sense of wonder.
00:35 Even the most mundane moments and objects seem magical, especially when you're a quarter inch tall.
00:41 Okay, so that only really applies to the kids in this Joe Johnston film.
00:45 "We're an inch tall and 64 feet from the house. It's the equivalent of 3.2 miles. It's a long way."
00:55 After a scientist accidentally shrinks his kids, they go on an epic journey through the house and yard,
01:01 befriending a friendly aunt on the way.
01:03 When you're older, it can be easy to get caught up in life.
01:06 This film is a great reminder to appreciate the little things just as much as the big ones.
01:10 "To the Thompsons and the Zelinskis and many more dinners together."
01:14 "Cheers."
01:14 "Oh, I wonder what's for dinner, right Russell?"
01:19 "Well, I guess I gotta carve this thing, huh?"
01:21 Number 9. Finding Nemo.
01:24 The first day of school is a special one for many kiddos.
01:27 After all, you're venturing off into unknown territory.
01:30 But Nemo's first day goes awry when he's captured by scuba divers after venturing too far out.
01:35 "Get under me, kids!"
01:36 "Oh no! Dad! Dad!"
01:42 Nemo's father, Marlon, embarks on a quest to rescue his only child.
01:46 Though the premise is pretty gut-wrenching, the film itself fills us with hope.
01:51 While Nemo faces real peril, Marlon learns from his son that
01:54 sometimes you have to venture beyond your comfort zone.
01:57 "It's the only way we can save Dory! I can do this!"
02:01 "You're right. I know you can."
02:07 Risks are a part of life.
02:09 Watching this movie encourages us to try something new,
02:11 maybe not being captured as a pet though.
02:14 "Bye Elmo!"
02:15 "Nemo."
02:15 "Nemo! Bye Nemo!"
02:17 "See you after school, Dory!"
02:20 "Bye, Dad!"
02:21 "Bye, Sam."
02:24 Number 8. The Parent Trap.
02:26 For many of us, playing matchmaker as a kid is a core memory.
02:30 Devising plans to get two people together was almost always fun.
02:33 "Then you and I are like, like sisters. Sisters. Hallie, we're like twins."
02:41 Nick and Elizabeth have identical twins but divorce soon afterwards.
02:46 Each parent gains sole custody of one of the children.
02:48 Fast forward 11 years later to the sisters accidentally reuniting
02:52 and deciding to get their parents back together.
02:55 "If we switch, sooner or later they'll have to unswitch us.
03:00 And when they do, they'll have to meet again, face to face."
03:04 The mischievous schemes the two girls think of to execute their plan
03:07 make us feel young again.
03:08 And then there's that glorious handshake.
03:11 We don't think we're alone in having rewound that scene
03:13 over and over again to memorize it.
03:15 [Music]
03:22 Number 7. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
03:25 "I am short and fat and proud of that. And so with all my might,
03:30 I up, down, up, down to my appetite's delight."
03:36 This compilation of previous films embodies the coziness of childhood.
03:40 Who wouldn't be charmed by such a whimsical cast of characters?
03:43 Pooh's soft-spoken voice and Tigger's cheerfulness make us feel nice and safe.
03:48 "Tiggers! Tiggers are wonderful things! Their tops are made out of rubber,
03:51 their bottoms are made out of springs! They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy,
03:54 pouncy fun, fun, fun, fun, fun! But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers
03:57 is I'm the only one!"
03:58 Not only do the scenarios invoke a youthful innocence within us,
04:01 but the storylines are easy to digest.
04:04 Plus the friendships are incredibly heartwarming.
04:06 Whenever life gets chaotic, we can relax and romanticize life again
04:10 after watching this flick.
04:12 "Looking for something that Tiggers do best?"
04:14 "I bet you could climb trees, huh, Tigger?"
04:18 "Climb trees? That's what Tiggers do best!"
04:22 The animation makes us think of a kid opening up their favorite book.
04:25 No wonder this featurette was so successful.
04:27 Number 6. The Princess Diaries
04:31 As kids, we all wonder what it would be like to live out our fairy tale dreams.
04:35 Luckily for us, we get to see Mia experience them firsthand.
04:38 "Princess of Shinovia."
04:40 "Me? A princess? Shut up!"
04:49 After discovering she's actually a princess,
04:51 the teenager must decide whether she'll accept the throne.
04:54 Down to earth and a stranger to the trappings of royalty,
04:57 Mia is relatable to a lot of us.
05:00 Seeing her become more confident inspired us as kids to believe
05:03 that we could become whoever we wanted to be.
05:05 "I choose to be forevermore, Amelia Mionette Thermopolis Rinaldi,
05:12 Princess of Shinovia."
05:16 The soundtrack still has us getting out of our seats and grooving away.
05:20 You'll have a silly smile on your face the entire time.
05:23 Number 5. Monsters, Inc.
05:34 "The best refineries and research into new energy techniques."
05:38 "Okay, here I come."
05:41 "We're working for a better tomorrow. Today!"
05:45 When we're kids, the world can seem pretty scary.
05:48 Especially the big bad monsters that we imagine lurking in our rooms after bedtime.
05:52 This film takes the concept a step further by showing things from the perspective
05:56 of the monsters themselves, who fuel their city with the screams of children.
06:00 "We've lost 58 doors this week, sir."
06:03 "Oh, kids these days. They just don't get scared like they used to."
06:07 The plot sounds way scarier than it actually is.
06:10 At its core, the movie is really a wonderful tale about friendship.
06:14 The lengths that Sully and Mike are willing to go to in order to help their human pal
06:18 is freaking adorable.
06:19 It's a fantastic reminder of how powerful childhood relationships can be.
06:23 "Goodbye, Boo."
06:24 "Kitty."
06:26 "Kitty has to go."
06:29 [Music]
06:36 Number 4. The Lion King
06:38 Inspired by Hamlet, this Disney masterpiece follows a young lion cub Simba,
06:43 whose father is tragically killed.
06:45 "Dad, come on. You gotta get up. Dad, we gotta go home."
06:55 Believing himself to be the cause, Simba wanders off to live in exile.
06:59 But a larger destiny awaits.
07:01 Despite the serious themes, Simba's journey to become king mirrors what it's like growing up.
07:06 We see him make fast friends, struggle with inner turmoil,
07:09 and come to terms with his past.
07:11 Let's not forget the awkwardness of teenage romance.
07:14 [Music]
07:26 It may be a movie about talking animals,
07:28 but this tale really connected with audiences and still takes us back to our childhoods.
07:33 "The past can't hurt, but the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it."
07:40 "Ah! You see?"
07:42 Number 3. Pinocchio
07:45 In this timeless tale, a puppet magically comes to life and sets out to become a real boy.
07:50 A lot of the obstacles that Pinocchio faces center on moral choices.
07:54 "A lie keeps growing and growing until it's as plain as the nose on your face."
07:59 "She's right, Pinoc. You better come clean."
08:01 "I'll never lie again. Honest, I won't."
08:04 Learning what's right and wrong is an important element of being a kid.
08:08 We all remember what it's like getting in trouble,
08:10 or trembling in fear while we await our punishment.
08:13 Mind you, some of the consequences in this film were more extreme than what we faced.
08:18 "Help! Help! Somebody help! I've been framed! Help!
08:23 Please! You gotta help me! Be a pal! Call that beetle! Call anybody!"
08:28 We're glad we never got turned into donkeys for misbehaving.
08:31 While these darker parts do recall core memories,
08:34 there are also plenty of whimsical moments that remind us of what it's like to be a kid.
08:38 "You're alive! And you are a real boy!"
08:42 "Whee! Whoopee!"
08:45 Number 2. Toy Story
08:47 "You saved the day again, Woody."
08:49 "You're my favorite deputy!"
08:52 "You've got a friend in me."
08:54 Playing with toys is a quintessential memory for kids.
08:58 Even when we're older, we can't help but have a soft spot for our favorite figurine.
09:02 In the beloved classic, cowboy doll Woody is upset when Space Ranger Buzz Lightyear
09:06 threatens his place as Andy's favorite toy.
09:09 "You stay away from Andy. He's mine. And no one is taking him away from me."
09:14 "What are you talking about? Where's that bonding strip?"
09:18 As kids, toys occupy special places in our hearts,
09:21 and it represents a turning point when we change toys or decide to part with our playthings.
09:26 Toy Story allows us to watch a kid navigate all this from their point of view.
09:30 The wave of nostalgia that hits us is insane when watching this film.
09:34 "You're flying!"
09:35 "This isn't flying. This is falling with style."
09:38 "To infinity and beyond!"
09:46 Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
09:50 Enchanted. The fairy tale elements remind us of our favorite childhood stories.
09:54 "May I?"
09:55 "Deep down inside we wanna believe they still do."
10:01 "It's a perfect fit."
10:03 James and the Giant Peach. The childlike wonder in this film
10:07 transports us to a time when we thought anything was possible.
10:10 "It would be wonderful, wonderful, that's the life for me."
10:17 Lady and the Tramp. A love story between adorable animals, we still love it.
10:22 "With your loved one, you'll find an enchantment here."
10:32 Hocus Pocus. Shivers will go down your spine as you remember how scary witches once seemed.
10:38 "She doesn't even know me!"
10:39 "You know I always wanted a child, and now I think I'll have one."
10:47 "I'm tough!"

11:04 Number 1. Mary Poppins. We wish that this fun-loving nanny had been our caregiver when
11:10 we were younger. Everything about this movie embodies the happy feelings associated with
11:14 being a kid. "Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down in a most delightful way."
11:22 It's enchanting and full of so much life, encouraging both the characters and audience
11:28 to find joy in the mundane. The message is pretty simple, a positive mindset goes a long way.
11:34 "Loud and long and clear, we love to laugh, so everybody can hear."
11:45 Just because we're older doesn't mean we should sacrifice our sense of childlike wonder.
11:49 If you need to discover ways to bring more amusement into your life,
11:53 look no further than this musical.
11:54 "And send it soaring up through the atmosphere, up where the air is clear."

12:10 "It's really creepy, yeah. Isn't it great?"
