00:00Newcastle United nil, Everton nil here at Goodison Park this evening in a match that is or was more eventful than the scoreline would suggest.
00:11Newcastle in control for large parts of the game, enjoyed plenty of possession, created a few good chances but that final third quality really lacking this evening despite some decent control of the game.
00:24Probably as in control as we've seen Newcastle on the road this season at least which isn't saying much admittedly but Newcastle I thought will certainly feel the more frustrated of the two sides to come away with.
00:38Just the point in the end obviously in the first half Bruno Gamarraish has a effort cleared off the line, thought Newcastle had gone in front with that.
00:49Everton obviously had a goal disallowed by VAR and VAR sort of a big talking point at the end of the game this evening because not long after Newcastle have a great chance to go ahead.
01:02Sandro Tonali pulled down by James Tarkowski in the penalty area, penalty given by VAR initially nothing happened on the pitch, Craig Poston didn't give anything.
01:12And then Anthony Gordon who else steps up but third game running Newcastle being awarded a penalty, Gordon scored last weekend against Man City, no denied by Jordan Pickford this time out.
01:24It was one of those games for Anthony Gordon, he kept going, full of endeavour, full of running but just lacked that final third quality as Newcastle did and he had a chance late on.
01:34The goal behind me, goal down there I should say, blasted over sort of snatched at the shot and yeah Newcastle had sort of half chances to win it and pushed towards the end but really just lacked anything in the final third.
01:54I thought there were some decent performances, I thought Bruno, Joe Linton were solid, Nick Pope made a good save to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin who again had a penalty shout in the second half after clashing with Dan Byrne but although the Everton fans sort of around me, around the press box felt it was a penalty, turns out the Everton striker kicked Dan Byrne.
02:16Well that's what VAR deemed was the case anyway as played on and yeah the game ended 0-0. So frustrating one for Newcastle, three games without a win in the Premier League but in terms of everything other than the final third it's as controlling as we've seen Newcastle this season.
02:36Stake your chances, that is what matters and Newcastle didn't do that today. So now they're heading to the international break with just one defeat from the opening seven games, it's been a positive, generally positive start in terms of results but still yet to fully click in terms of the performances. So yeah two weeks now for Eddie Howe to work with his team, his non-international players and hopefully come back stronger when they host Brighton in two weeks time.
