00:32 - Once upon a time in sunny Spain,
00:39 there was a little bull and his name was Ferdinand.
00:43 All the other little bulls he lived with
00:50 would run and jump and butt their heads together,
00:54 but not Ferdinand.
00:58 He had his favorite spot out in the pasture
01:01 under a cork tree,
01:03 and he would sit just quietly in its shade all day
01:07 and smell the flowers.
01:10 Sometimes his mother, who was a cow,
01:16 would worry about him.
01:17 She was afraid he would be lonesome all by himself.
01:23 - Now, Ferdinand, why don't you play
01:28 with all the other little bulls and butt your head?
01:32 - But Ferdinand would shake his head.
01:35 - I like it better here,
01:38 where I can sit just quietly and smell the flowers.
01:43 - And because she was an understanding mother,
01:49 even though she was a cow,
01:52 she let him just sit there and be happy.
01:56 As the years went by,
02:01 Ferdinand grew and grew and grew
02:05 until he was very big and very strong.
02:09 All the other bulls wanted, most of all,
02:14 to fight at the bullfights in Madrid,
02:16 but not Ferdinand.
02:20 He still liked to sit just quietly under the cork tree
02:25 and smell the flowers.
02:28 One day, five men came in funny hats
02:31 to pick the biggest, fastest, roughest bull
02:34 to fight in the bullfights.
02:35 All the other bulls ran around leaping
02:44 and thumping and butting their heads
02:46 so the men would think they were strong and fierce
02:49 and pick them.
02:50 But not Ferdinand.
03:00 He knew they wouldn't pick him, and he didn't care.
03:04 So he went out under his favorite cork tree to sit down,
03:08 but he didn't look where he was sitting,
03:10 and he sat on a bumblebee.
03:12 (farting)
03:15 (horn honking)
03:19 (farting)
03:21 Ferdinand ran around puffing and squirting
03:24 as if he were crazy.
03:25 (farting)
03:28 The five men saw him, and they all shouted with joy.
03:33 Look at him go!
03:34 (guns firing)
03:36 (glass shattering)
03:40 Bravo!
03:42 (speaking in foreign language)
03:48 (horn honking)
03:51 So they took him away for the bullfight
03:53 and lay in a cart.

04:00 What a day it was!
04:01 Flags were flying, bands were playing!
04:15 They had a parade into the bullring.
04:18 First came the band of Riera.
04:26 Next came the Picador.
04:36 Then came the Matador, the proudest of all.
04:45 (upbeat music)
04:47 Then came the bull.
05:15 And you know who that was, don't you?
05:18 Mm-hmm, Ferdinand.
05:19 Hooray!
05:23 They called him Ferdinand the Fierce,
05:27 and all the band of Riera were afraid of him,
05:30 and the Picadors were afraid of him,
05:31 and the Matador, he was scared stiff.
05:35 When Ferdinand saw the lovely flowers,
05:39 he ran to the middle of the ring,
05:41 and everyone shouted,
05:42 because they thought he was going to fight fiercely.
05:45 When he got to the middle of the ring,
05:48 he sat down just quietly,
05:50 and smelled.
05:52 Band of Riera was mad,
05:57 and the Picadors were madder,
05:59 and the Matador was the maddest of all.
06:02 Come on, fight!
06:04 What's the matter?
06:05 Be fierce, come on, come on!
06:07 Boo!
06:12 Bah!
06:14 Matador, he made very ugly faces.
06:17 Wah!
06:18 Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah!
06:19 Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
06:20 blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah!
06:22 Nyah!
06:23 But Ferdinand just sat and smelled.
06:28 The Matador, he was furious!
06:30 He broke his sword in little pieces.
06:34 He stomped his feet.
06:36 He pulled his hair!
06:39 But still Ferdinand sat just quietly,
06:44 and smelled.
06:44 He pleaded with Ferdinand,
06:48 "Please, please,
06:51 "steak me!
06:52 "Do something!
06:54 "Do something!
06:56 "Give it to me!"
06:57 (growling)
07:04 (groaning)
07:07 (crying)
07:09 The Matador was so mad he cried,
07:13 'cause he couldn't show off with his cape and sword!
07:15 (crying)
07:18 So they had to take Ferdinand home.
07:22 And for all I know, he's sitting there still
07:32 under his favorite clark tree,
07:35 smelling the flowers just quietly.
07:39 He is very happy.
