00:36 Once upon a time in sunny Spain, there was a little bull,
00:41 and his name was Ferdinand.
00:43 All the other little bulls he lived with
00:50 would run and jump and butt their heads together,
00:54 but not Ferdinand.
00:58 He had his favorite spot out in the pasture under a cork tree,
01:03 and he would sit just quietly in its shade all day
01:08 and smell the flowers.
01:10 Sometimes his mother, who was a cow, would worry about him.
01:18 She was afraid he would be lonesome all by himself.
01:23 Now, Ferdinand, why don't you play with all the other little bulls
01:30 and butt your head?
01:33 But Ferdinand would shake his head.
01:36 I like it better here, where I can sit just quietly
01:41 and smell the flowers.
01:44 And because she was an understanding mother,
01:49 even though she was a cow, she let him just sit there
01:55 and be happy.
01:59 As the years went by, Ferdinand grew and grew and grew
02:06 until he was very big and very strong.
02:10 All the other bulls wanted, most of all,
02:14 to fight at the bullfights in Madrid,
02:17 but not Ferdinand.
02:20 He still liked to sit just quietly under the cork tree
02:25 and smell the flowers.
02:28 One day, five men came in funny hats
02:31 to pick the biggest, fastest, roughest bull
02:34 to fight in the bullfights.
02:37 All the other bulls ran around beeping and thumping
02:45 and butting their heads,
02:46 so the men would think they were strong and fierce
02:49 and pick them.
02:57 But not Ferdinand.
03:00 He knew they wouldn't pick him, and he didn't care.
03:04 So he went out under his favorite cork tree to sit down.
03:08 But he didn't look where he was sitting,
03:10 and he sat on a bumblebee!
03:13 [BUMBLEBEE BLEATS]
03:15 [BEEPING]
03:17 [BUMBLEBEE BLEATS]
03:21 Ferdinand ran around puffing and squawking
03:24 as if he were crazy.
03:26 [BUMBLEBEE BLEATS]
03:29 The five men saw him, and they all shouted with joy,
03:33 "Lucky bull!"
03:35 [BUMBLEBEE BLEATS]
03:38 [CRASH]
03:40 [CRASH]
03:42 [SPEAKING ITALIAN]
03:48 "Lucky!"
03:51 So they took him away for the bullfighting day in a cart.
03:56 What a day it was!
04:02 Flags were flying!
04:04 Bands were playing!
04:06 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:09 They had a parade into the bullring.
04:18 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:21 First came the band of Rieros.
04:26 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:29 Next came the Picadors.
04:37 [MUSIC PLAYING]
04:40 Then came the Matadors, the proudest of all.
04:46 [MUSIC PLAYING]
05:12 Then came the bull, and you know who that was, don't you?
05:18 Mm-hmm.
05:21 Ferdinand.
05:23 Hooray!
05:25 They called him Ferdinand the Fierce,
05:27 and all the band of Rieros were afraid of him,
05:30 and the Picadors were afraid of him,
05:32 and the Matadors, he was scared stiff.
05:36 When Ferdinand saw the lovely flowers,
05:39 he ran to the middle of the ring,
05:41 and everyone shouted, because they thought
05:43 he was going to fight fiercely.
05:45 When he got to the middle of the ring,
05:48 he sat down just quietly and snarled.
05:52 Band of Rieros were mad, and the Picadors were madder,
05:59 and the Matador was the maddest of all.
06:02 Come on, fight!
06:04 What's the matter?
06:05 Be fierce!
06:06 Come on, come on!
06:09 Boo!
06:11 Ah!
06:13 Bah!
06:14 Matador, he made very ugly faces.
06:17 Wah!
06:18 Nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah, nyah,
06:20 blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
06:22 blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
06:24 nyah!
06:25 But Ferdinand just sat and smelled.
06:28 The Matador, he was furious.
06:32 He broke his sword in little pieces.
06:35 He stomped his feet.
06:37 He pulled his hair.
06:40 But still Ferdinand sat just quietly and smelled.
06:46 He pleaded with Ferdinand.
06:49 Please, please, speak me.
06:53 Do something.
06:54 Do something!
06:56 Give it to me!
07:03 Oh!
07:07 Oh!
07:08 Oh!
07:09 Oh!
07:10 The Matador was so mad he cried because he couldn't show off with his cape and sword.
07:16 Ah!
07:17 Oh!
07:18 Oh!
07:19 Oh!
07:20 So they have to take Ferdinand home.
07:29 And for all I know, he is sitting there still under his favorite cork tree,
07:35 smelling the flowers just quietly.
07:40 He is very happy.
