00:02 - Waluwani Naga Takisa, the Naga Aboriginal Granger.
00:09 Hello, my name is Takisa Frank
00:11 and I'm a proud Aboriginal person.
00:13 I'm 21 years old and live on Kikiwin country
00:16 on the South Coast in New South Wales.
00:18 I live amongst forests and public native forests
00:21 my entire life.
00:22 I learned to swim in the river that runs through these
00:24 forests and ran through these forests as a kid
00:27 with my siblings.
00:28 I'm a New South Wales campaigner
00:30 and non-violent direct activist in New South Wales.
00:34 Campaigning to end public native forest work,
00:36 not only in New South Wales, but along the whole nation.
00:40 I have partaken in many direct actions
00:43 over the past 12 months, doing two tree sits.
00:46 And a funny story, I actually have still not
00:48 got arrested from either of those,
00:51 which is very exciting and means that I can do
00:53 some more in the future.
00:55 As well as partaking in non-violent direct action,
00:58 I also in 2022 helped start a petition
01:01 to petition the New South Wales government
01:03 to end public native forest logging.
01:05 That petition got over 20,000 signatures
01:08 and forced the government to have a debate on the issue.
01:12 I partake in non-violent direct actions
01:14 to protect our native forests.
01:16 New South Wales government is continuing
01:18 to log our native forests.
01:19 In order to protect our engaged and threatened species,
01:22 we must end all public native logging across the nation.
01:25 Sometimes the government doesn't listen to us
01:27 and we have to take these actions
01:29 to physically stop the logging ourselves.
01:31 My elders have protected this country
01:43 since the first sunrise.
01:45 In the past 200 years, we have seen so much
01:47 environmental degradation, more natural disasters,
01:51 and increased impacts of climate change.
01:53 As a young person, I want to ensure that we can protect
01:56 this environment for future generations.
