00:00I'm Inspector Leigh Ingmeier and I'm the Traffic Manager of the Hume Police District.
00:06Last night at midnight concluded Operation Christmas New Year Statewide Traffic Operation
00:12which ran over the last 13 days. The operation was a high visibility operation with police out
00:18there focusing on speeding, drug and drink driving, helmet, seatbelt and distraction
00:26offences. Across the Hume Police District over 11,000 RBT were conducted with 17
00:35persons detected driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. Over 700 people were
00:43drug tested with 68 people detected with drugs in their system and over 858 persons were detected
00:52for speeding. An incident of note was on Monday the 30th of December. A 65 year old
01:01male was riding a motorcycle down Macquarie Pass when he lost control of the cycle and crashed.
01:07A highway car was travelling right behind the cycle. He was subjected to a random breath test
01:14and returned a reading of 0.220. So his license was suspended and he'll appeal before Mossville
01:23Local Court later this month. Overall generally most people abided by the road conditions and
01:31the traffic conditions. Unfortunately still people didn't heed the warnings and obviously
01:37from the stats I just provided you a lot of people were detected doing the wrong thing which
01:41is disappointing. Unfortunately there was no fatalities across the Hume Police District
01:46this operation but unfortunately there was 10 fatalities statewide which is four more than
01:52the same time last year. The operation may have ended but what's your message to drivers?
01:57Yeah my message is it's still increased traffic movements on our roads at the moment. Obviously
02:02people are still out there holidaying and I'd ask them even though the double demerit points is
02:07obviously stopped to continue to abide by the the speed limits. Take your time,
02:13take regular breaks if you're traveling long distances and just have patience on the road.
