00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 Last night's AEW Dynamite was the go-home show for Full Gear 2023, which Oli will have
00:13 a review of here shortly.
00:15 It also saw the inaugural Laika Dragon Street Fight.
00:18 Inaugural, because I assume it's now going to be a regular thing.
00:21 Please tell me it's going to be a regular thing, TK!
00:24 And while the match was insane and stupid and wonderful, there was a very near miss
00:28 before the match even began.
00:30 Chris Jericho entered first for the babyface team, followed by the Golden Lovers.
00:34 But during Kenny Omega's pyro display, one of the pyrotechnics whizzed right by Jericho,
00:38 and after one of them seemed to even catch him a little, he glanced down at his arm.
00:43 Jericho then confirmed on X after the show that yes, that firework did in fact burn his
00:48 arm.
00:49 Luckily this wasn't more severe and we could have had another Undertaker in the Elimination
00:53 Chamber situation.
00:54 Crispy taker.
00:55 But you know, it's fine.
00:56 AEW have had issues with pyro in the past, but we can always rely on them for awesome
01:00 match graphics that are never wrong-
01:02 Well.
01:03 Dax, Dax Hardwood, eh?
01:06 That's, uh, that's quite the typo.
01:10 I'm not going to make any jokes about Hardwood.
01:13 I'm not doing it.
01:14 I'm not going to make any jokes about it.
01:16 Hardwood?!
01:17 Elsewhere in AEW, the Devil storyline has continued to pick up, with MGF on this show
01:24 promising to kick their ass once he finds out who it is, but who actually is this mask
01:29 attacker?
01:30 Speculation Online has been pointing in a more "can you imagine" sort of way in
01:34 the direction of CM Punk being the Devil, which would be one hell of a work if so.
01:40 And Fightful Select has backed this up, reporting that several sources reached out to Fightful
01:44 to confirm that the people who are under the masks are actually the people who will be
01:48 revealed to be the assailants in due time, including the Devil himself.
01:53 Several people within the company reportedly know of the identities of the people, but
01:57 they have done a good job of keeping it quiet.
02:00 And Fightful also confirmed that yes, the Devil has not been played by CM Punk thus
02:04 far so chances are, not him.
02:07 The sources that spoke to Fightful added that it would be a huge work on those in the know
02:11 within AEW itself.
02:13 If it was Punk that was revealed as the Devil, which seems unlikely in the grand scheme of
02:17 things.
02:18 Elsewhere, reported back in September, was a legal dispute between WWE and Panini, the
02:22 company responsible for WWE trading cards.
02:25 WWE had terminated the contract between the companies due to an alleged breach of said
02:29 contract, to which Panini responded by suing WWE.
02:32 But now new court documents indicate that the two sides have come to a settlement agreement
02:37 in principle after the past couple of months of settlement proposals were exchanged between
02:41 Nick Khan and two Panini executives.
02:43 According to House of Wrestling, this resolution is being put into writing, which will mark
02:47 an end to the lawsuit.
02:49 And now, over to Oli.
02:52 "Man, I wish this book went behind the curtain and showed me all the fascinating aspects
02:57 of wrestling we fans don't get to see in the ring."
02:59 "I know what Tempest's thinking.
03:03 He's thinking he wishes his book took a deep dive into some of wrestling's biggest controversies,
03:07 giving insights into the murkier side of the sport we know and love."
03:10 "I know that look in Pete's eyes.
03:13 He's keen to know more about the ongoing controversy of unionization in wrestling.
03:17 And his right eye is even more keen to delve into the issues that have shaped the modern
03:21 pro-wrestling landscape."
03:22 "Man, Tempest is really staring at me.
03:26 Wait, maybe he's wishing his book critiqued wrestling's institutions and was more of
03:30 a testament to those who fight not just inside the ring, but outside the ring too."
03:36 "Hah.
03:37 I wish I could read."
03:39 "Gentlemen."
03:40 "Guard?"
03:41 "What?
03:42 No.
03:43 Guys.
03:44 It's me, Dave Bradshaw, the voice of British wrestling and, nay, the world.
03:50 I've been listening to your internal monologues and I think I have the answer to all your
03:55 prayers."
03:56 "Told you he was guard."
03:59 Get WrestleTalk's brand new book Wrestling Unmasked straight from the pages of WrestleTalk
04:03 Magazine.
04:04 Wrestling Unmasked is a must-read for all wrestling fans.
04:08 Head on over to Amazon to pick up your copy now by clicking on the link in the video description
04:11 below and prepare for your understanding of the wrestling world to be turned upside down.
04:17 "Luke, your book is upside down.
04:24 Never mind."
04:25 "It's Thursday!
04:29 You know what that means!"
04:32 My review of the Full Gear go home episode of AEW Dynamite… in about 5 minutes.
04:43 After a brief recap of the acclaimed being taken out by Retribution - I mean, CM Punk,
04:48 I mean, no, Mystery Devil, I mean Mystery Devil Man - the show started on Orange Cassidy
04:53 and Hook attacking Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta during their entrances for the opening
04:57 tag match.
04:58 That was a tactical error, as violent crowd brawling is very much the Blackpool Combat
05:03 Club's domain.
05:04 Cassidy got taken out, leaving Hook fighting by himself.
05:07 After a max recovery hot tag, Cassidy later used one of the biggest weapons in his arsenal,
05:12 the Orange Punch, hitting Moxley square on his jaw.
05:15 But Mox appears to be a bastard type Pokemon.
05:19 It wasn't very effective.
05:20 Mox totally no-sold the punch, but not in that 'it didn't hurt undermining' way,
05:25 in an 'Ishii, I'm so freaking tough, I can fight through that incredible pain'
05:29 kind of way.
05:30 Cassidy almost recoiled in shock horror, letting Yuta pin Hook to further their rivalry
05:35 too.
05:36 Mox screamed afterwards he's going to grind Orange into dust.
05:40 Although that would be squash, Mox.
05:43 You grind an orange into squash.
05:45 And become international champion again at Full Gear.
05:48 The most effective go-home segment of the show came next, though, where Hangman Page
05:52 and Swerve Strickland went face-to-face in the ring, where they'd be suspended for
05:55 the rest of the year if they got physical with each other.
05:58 More than making up for the weak follow-up to the initial angle, Hangman started his
06:01 promo at 11 and went up from there.
06:04 Swerve got fired two years ago from WWE.
06:07 His fiancé left him.
06:09 His kids won't speak to him.
06:10 Prince Nana buys weed from high school kids.
06:13 Which led to one of the best go-home lines in wrestling history.
06:16 I'm going to beat your ass and take your weed.
06:19 Swerve didn't get a single word in, as badass smart babyface Hangman pointed out
06:24 the condition was he couldn't lay a finger on Strickland.
06:27 It didn't say anything about Prince Nana.
06:29 So Hangman proceeded to indeed beat his ass and, I presume, take his weed, while Swerve
06:35 couldn't do anything to stop him.
06:36 This was a fantastic performance from Page, and just like WrestleDream, their feud has
06:40 again become my most anticipated match of a pay-per-view.
06:43 Roderick Strong called ADAM!
06:46 Combat's fought was then distilled into its purest form next - the colour red vs the
06:53 colour blue.
06:55 Sky Blue and Red Velvet had a very decent match, exceeding expectations.
07:00 Unfortunately Sky Blue's code red was botched for the finish.
07:05 Sky Blue will join Julia Hart going for Chris Statlander's TBS title at Full Gear.
07:09 Miro promised to beat the crap out of Daniel Garcia because he's annoyed with his wife.
07:12 Mariah May fawned over her idol Tony Storm in La La Land backstage.
07:16 I keep having this recurring nightmare where I wake up, and I'm suddenly in the ring,
07:21 and Samoa Joe's walking down, and I know I haven't had an entrance.
07:24 Samoa Joe squashed John Crews, which included the greatest 'duuup' reaction to a Joe
07:29 walkaway spot we've ever seen.
07:31 Joe extended his tag team offer again to MJF in a post-match promo.
07:35 We need someone to put on an exciting match that'll get over with a live crowd even
07:39 though they haven't had a proper storyline in years, and is somehow still credible despite
07:42 being beaten all the time.
07:44 Enter Penta.
07:45 CMDR seamlessly subbed in for a non-medically cleared Rey Fenix, somewhat protecting the
07:49 Lucha Non-Blood Bros in defeat against the Young Bucks in a terrific match.
07:53 The Young Bucks here being Young Bucks Prime.
07:57 Because after a lengthy, somewhat one-dimensional babyface run, the Bucks are fully fledged
08:01 heels again, having their high spot cake and eating it.
08:05 Their moves are cheered like babyfaces, but we all still know they're heels.
08:09 You might say they're tweeners.
08:13 There was a loud 'this is awesome' chant after CMDR ran off the top turnbuckle onto
08:18 Penta's shoulders and hit a double DDT on the Jacksons.
08:21 But Nick hit both Luchadors with low blow kicks to the dicks, a Judas elbow to increase
08:25 their Jericho heat, and a BTE trigger to win.
08:28 This felt like 2019 level Bucks, which I hope their heel turn means more of.
08:32 They had a brief pull apart with Jericho and Omega backstage afterwards.
08:36 The Guns squashed Peter Avalon and Jacoby Watts building their MJF/ROH tag title match.
08:40 Wardlow said he'll make the Devil his bitch.
08:43 He was talking about MJF, but there's that other, more literal Devil he could be referring
08:47 to too.
08:48 Brought to you by Like A Dragon, the Don Callis Family, with special guest Brian Cage, took
08:53 on the Golden Jericho Lovers in an awesome street fight.
08:56 Just like the Bucks being heel, this felt like the best of AEW from a more innocently
09:01 fun time.
09:02 But before the backstage drama, and ratings dips, and 100 very important Tony Khan announcements,
09:08 Cage, arguably the Callis Family's MVP, suplexed Omega off the second rope through
09:13 two tables outside, Powerhouse Hobbs was gaffer taped to the ring, even Ibushi, now officially
09:18 All Elite, recaptured his puckish Agent of Chaos spirit riding a bicycle down to the
09:23 ring and hitting a Brain Buster on it.
09:26 You could say that's when the match found a new gear.
09:43 Paul Wight was a concern going in, given how much difficulty he seems to have moving around.
09:47 But they booked around his limitations effectively, having people run to him, creating the illusion
09:52 of movement, and one of the opening spots being him chokeslamming Carl Fletcher off
09:56 the stage through a table.
09:57 I'm pretty sure they killed Big Show, though, when Hobbs hit a very impressive, but also
10:02 super ugly powerslam off some crates onto the hood of a car.
10:06 Well, that's a big bump.
10:09 Omega got the win over Cage with a One Winged Angel.
10:12 There were still 10 minutes left for this show, though, which were reserved for MJF
10:16 Konnina promo on how he can't outrun his past, potentially implying the Devil is a
10:20 past wronged opponent.
10:21 There were no big revelations or angles here like other weeks, just Jey White awesomely
10:30 saying he's got two words for Max - get him.
10:34 Prompting a gangbang gang beatdown on a now friendless MJF, but it was still an effective
10:38 go-home sell, especially with Samoa Joe watching on backstage.
10:42 The bigger angle will perhaps take place on Friday night's collision.
10:45 This week's Dynamite is 85%.
