The NEW 2021 Nissan Navara/Frontier has been revealed. Paul Maric gives you an up-close detailed walkaround of a pre-production version of the new Navara/Frontier. It's due to launch in Australia Q1 2021 and around the rest of the world at the same time.

The 2021 Nissan Navara will feature forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring when it arrives in Australia early next year.

The technology upgrade brings the Navara into line with the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, and Mitsubishi Triton in offering a suite of active safety features.

Power in the updated Navara comes from the same 2.3-litre turbo and twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engines as the current range.

The base engine outputs 120kW of power and 403Nm of torque, while the twin-turbo version produces 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque.

00:00 G'day, I'm Paul. So the Nissan Navara was launched first in 2014 and it's now time for a facelift.
00:05 Here it is right here, Nissan has taken the wraps off the new Navara.
00:09 It's also known as the Frontier in other countries.
00:11 And this is going to compete with cars like the Ford Ranger Wildtrak because this is an all-new variant called the Pro 4X.
00:18 Today we're getting a first look. We can't drive it, unfortunately,
00:21 but I'm going to walk you through all the little bits and pieces inside this car, plus all the stuff that is new to Navara.
00:27 Now, if you haven't done so already, I'd love it if you could hit subscribe and also press the bell icon
00:31 so you can find out every single time we look at something brand new.
00:34 Okay, so before we have a look at the outside, I wanted to show you the engine. This remains unchanged for Navara.
00:40 It's a 2.3 litre twin turbocharged four-cylinder diesel, 140 kilowatts of power,
00:46 450 newton meters of torque and it's available with either a seven-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
00:53 It's worth keeping in mind that vehicles like the updated Hilux, the Ford Ranger, both have 500 newton meters of torque and the new
00:58 D-MAX and BT50 come in at 450 newton meters of torque as well.
01:03 Okay, so you can get the new Navara with eight exterior colours and there's two new colours,
01:07 including this grey here that you can get on the Pro 4X. Now, the Pro 4X comes with a whole bunch of its own unique
01:13 highlights, but what I thought we'd do today is just have a run through some of these design elements.
01:17 So, big Navara branding up on the front there and a big grille as well.
01:21 So this is increased in size and it kind of follows the theme of the American trucks where
01:25 everything is just super-sized on them and I think it actually looks pretty good.
01:29 This is quite dominating and I think it will have a presence out on the road.
01:32 You can see that Nissan highlight in the logo there with the black emblem too,
01:36 and then just beneath it here you have some of the safety controls. Now, this looks like it's something to do with recovery,
01:43 but it's actually not. They're just red highlights. The recovery point is just under the vehicle here on the right-hand side.
01:49 The interesting thing here is with the headlights.
01:51 So we've seen the new Patrol and the Patrol headlights are kind of similar to this with that C element
01:56 and then you have the LED elements built into there as well.
01:59 So this means that the lighting on this should be fantastic out at night time.
02:03 And this is one of the bigger concerns with the older utes that have halogen headlights,
02:07 especially country driving, that type of thing.
02:09 They just really don't do a good job when it comes to visibility.
02:11 LED headlights like this should really help with forward visibility and being able to see all the animals and stuff that are
02:17 lurking off the side of the road.
02:18 You also have LED fog lights down the bottom. Okay, let's have a quick look at the wheels.
02:22 So 17-inch alloy wheel and a different design here as well.
02:25 You can see that follows on with that theme at the front there with the black highlights and then the orange
02:30 highlights on the wheel arch protectors. These are all-terrain tyres,
02:33 so it gives you an idea of the type of driving you'll be able to do in this. Now,
02:37 we'll go down the side of the car. Side steps here have changed slightly.
02:40 They have these elements at the front there to help with aerodynamics and saving fuel.
02:44 Let's have a look at the changes at the rear and we'll start off here with the taillights.
02:48 These are actually really impressive because LED at the front, LED at the rear. Some utes in this segment still use
02:54 incandescent globes at the back, whereas this full LED setup will help the car stand out at night.
02:59 And I don't know, I just think it looks kind of cool as well. Big Nissan logo on the back here.
03:03 And there's also this new Navara lettering on the tray. You'll notice here with the tray,
03:06 you actually have a step now to get things out of the tray, so you don't have to sort of lean over,
03:12 especially with this new lip they've put on the back. So that's going to make life a little bit easier.
03:15 Retains a three and a half tonne towing capacity. You still have 360 degree cameras.
03:20 So one camera here, two on the wing mirrors and then one at the front.
03:23 There is though a new off-road mode and I'll show you that when we're inside the car,
03:27 but that's basically going to help you when you're off-road.
03:29 You'll be able to see the extremities of the car and where the wheels are about to fall into.
03:33 You won't end up getting stuck.
03:35 Alright, let's drop this thing down. Now, have a look at this. They've added a torsion bar as well.
03:39 This makes opening and closing the tray door much easier. Now,
03:43 it's obviously not going to be super, super easy to close,
03:45 but if you are opening and closing this 20, 30 times a day,
03:48 you will be grateful for these small things that they add into modern utes.
03:52 You've got tie-down hooks on the back here and at the front, but I like this. Quite a clever setup.
03:57 You're able to move around your tie-down points to make the rear a little more flexible. And in terms of payload,
04:02 this has increased as well. You now have up to 1.2 tonnes of payload in the rear of Navara. Here on the Pro 4X model,
04:08 it's 1,100 kilograms. So before we jump into the car, you get Pro 4X branding on the side here.
04:13 You have this sports bar attached to the back. It actually looks kind of cool with these cutouts. That retains drum brakes.
04:19 Let's jump inside the cabin where they've changed things up a bit.
04:22 Okay, so we are inside the new Navara. In terms of material changes, not a great deal has changed in here in terms of
04:28 materials they use. So it's still quite scratchy, hard-wearing material. Obviously for a dual cab ute,
04:33 this is going to be ideal,
04:34 but there are some utes in this segment that have gone a little more upmarket in terms of the materials they offer inside the cabin.
04:41 But you do get an 8-inch infotainment system with AM/FM/DAB+ digital radio.
04:46 You've also had a change to the USB points inside this car.
04:49 So you do still get some traditional USB-A points, but there is also now a USB-C point.
04:54 Ahead of the driver is a 7-inch TFT display.
04:57 This gives you details such as a compass and other bits and pieces for off-road driving.
05:01 And then in terms of off-road driving, you can use this 360-degree camera to help you when you are off-road.
05:07 You'll be able to see things like where the tyres are going and the guidelines will help you
05:11 recognize when you're about to drop a tyre into a giant rut. There's also autonomous emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, a blind spot monitor,
05:19 a driver alertness system, a lane departure warning and a lane departure assistant,
05:24 which uses a brake-based system because this still has a hydraulic steering rack as opposed to an e-pass system.
05:31 Okay, let's move on to comfort and practicality. I want to start here with the seats.
05:34 Check these out. I absolutely love this. Nissan's seat design game is pretty strong.
05:40 We've seen in vehicles like the Qashqai that they really just go to extra lengths to give the seats a really cool design.
05:45 And it's the same story here.
05:46 They've got Pro4X branding stitched into the seat and then you have these ribbed sections on the back and then down the bottom.
05:52 Really hug you in nicely and it means that when you are sitting there doing some off-roading,
05:55 you're not going to get too thrown around. And then when it comes to storage, your phone can virtually live anywhere.
06:00 There are plenty of storage slots including these two along the side.
06:03 Glovebox is decent sized as well. And that's also where you'll find your USB-C port. Oh, before I forget as well,
06:09 they've updated the steering wheel. So much smaller now. Sits nicely in the hands too.
06:14 You've got the buttons here to control the screen ahead of you and then also cruise control on the other side. Doesn't look like
06:18 it has radar cruise control, which is interesting. In terms of four-wheel drive equipment,
06:22 you have hill descent control, a rear differential lock and also two high, four high, four low.
06:27 Two-wheel drive is just rear-wheel drive. Four high is four-wheel drive mode and then there's also a low range mode.
06:32 If you don't know what that stuff means, make sure you check out our four-wheel drive controls explained video,
06:37 which you can click on up there. That'll give you a bit more detail on what all of that technology means.
06:41 But let's jump into that back seat.
06:43 Okay, let's have a look at the rear. So you can see here with the seats, they've got that similar design.
06:47 So you're going to get a little bit more comfort here. Where can you put your stuff?
06:50 Well, this folds up and you've got two underfloor storage areas. One is for the jack,
06:55 the other is vacant. So you can put little bits and pieces in there if you want to keep them away from prying eyes.
07:01 And then ISOFIX on the two outboard seats plus these
07:04 top tether hoops on the outboard seats as well. And we'll hop in, grab handle there.
07:09 Okay, so look, it is a little bit cramped here. They haven't changed the dimensions of this vehicle.
07:16 So it means that you're not going to get any extra legroom, but I normally have my seat pretty far back.
07:21 So that's how much knee room I have. Toe room a little bit tight and then headroom is reasonable.
07:26 But if you're taller than me, you're probably going to struggle a little bit.
07:28 You also get a center armrest with two cup holders in there.
07:32 And then down here you have a USB outlet and then air vents as well.
07:37 So that has been your first look at the new Nissan Navara in Pro-4X trim.
07:42 It's a new name for the Navara in Australia, but this means stuff overseas.
07:47 Now, let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
07:50 Do you reckon Nissan has done enough with this to keep it up to date with the rest of the
07:53 competitors in this segment? Would you like to see a V6 diesel in this? Because remember on this platform,
07:59 Mercedes, when they had the X-Class, stuck a V6 diesel under the bonnet.
08:02 So let me know what your thoughts are in the comments section below.
08:05 This will be launched in Australia Q1 2021 and in other markets around the same time.
08:09 So we should be able to get behind the wheel of it soon. Today has just been a very early look at the pre-production car.
08:15 So if you did enjoy this video, make sure you share it with your friends.
08:18 Also hit the like button and follow it up with a subscribe and then press the bell icon
08:22 so you can find out every single time we drive something new. But until next time, take it easy.
