The V6 is dead :-(, but Toyota has put in its place a turbocharged 2.4-litre petrol engine instead. It's a shame, because the V6 was a really smooth engine! Is it any good? Paul Maric finds out.

00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:01 So the Toyota Kluger, or the Highlander,
00:03 as it's also known elsewhere around the world,
00:05 it's one of the best-selling SUVs here in Australia.
00:08 Families absolutely love them.
00:09 But up until now, you could only pick a petrol V6
00:12 or a hybrid four-cylinder.
00:15 But now there's this.
00:15 This is the updated version.
00:17 It comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol.
00:19 So today we're gonna take this for a bit of a drive
00:21 and see what it's like.
00:22 This one here is the mid-spec GXL.
00:24 It's in all-wheel drive trim.
00:25 It's priced at just over $63,000.
00:28 That's too expensive.
00:29 The entire range kicks off at just under 50 grand.
00:32 And it competes with things like the Hyundai Palisade,
00:35 the Mazda CX-9, and also the Nissan Pathfinder as well.
00:40 Today we're gonna do a detailed review of this car.
00:41 So if you're doing this,
00:42 keep a head to other parts of this review.
00:44 You can use the time codes on the screen,
00:45 or if you're on YouTube,
00:46 you can scroll down and use the chapters below.
00:48 If you haven't done so already,
00:49 subscribe to our channel and press the bell icon.
00:52 That way you can find out every single time
00:53 we drive a turbocharged SUV.
00:58 So let's talk exterior.
00:59 You've got seven colors to pick from.
01:01 Orbit Black is gonna set you back 675 bucks.
01:06 So what do you reckon about the design?
01:08 Look, I know I shouldn't like SUVs,
01:10 but I actually think it looks pretty good.
01:12 So you've got a big grill down the front here
01:14 with these silver trim highlights and a big Toyota logo,
01:18 and then a kind of matte black finish down the bottom here.
01:21 You've got a set of full LED headlights.
01:24 I think that'll look pretty good.
01:25 You do have incandescent globe in there
01:27 for the indicator as well.
01:29 Worth keeping that in mind.
01:30 Around the side here to the wheels,
01:32 18-inch alloy wheels come standard,
01:34 and they're on a pretty chunky profile as well.
01:37 So that's a 65 profile tire there.
01:39 So I'm tipping this is probably gonna ride well.
01:41 I think we found with the last Kluger that we drove
01:43 that even on the big wheels,
01:44 it actually rides really nice and comfortably.
01:46 So we'll see how it all performs here.
01:48 A little bit of wheel arch cladding there
01:50 because all-wheel drive.
01:52 Keep in mind, it only has a ground clearance
01:53 of a little over 200 mils.
01:54 You're not gonna be doing too much off-roading in it.
01:57 You've got a body-colored mirror up the top there,
01:59 indicator built into here,
02:00 no 360 camera or puddle lamps under there
02:03 by the look of it.
02:04 Little bit of chrome trim
02:05 that runs down the side of the car.
02:06 Roof rails, privacy glass,
02:08 and then whip around to the back with me.
02:10 Around the back here, pretty straightforward setup.
02:12 You have partial LED tail lamps.
02:14 You have a shark fin aerial up the top there,
02:16 a brake lamp just here,
02:18 and then Kluger down the bottom here.
02:20 No designation for the grade
02:21 or whether it's all-wheel drive or not at the back here.
02:23 So it's pretty sort of tidy.
02:25 And a diffuser down the bottom there as well.
02:26 So let me know what you reckon about the design
02:28 in the comments section below.
02:30 Do you still think this is a good-looking SUV
02:32 or do I need to get my eyes checked?
02:34 So we are inside the Kluger.
02:35 We will kick off with the key.
02:37 So you've got lock, unlock, boot, panic.
02:41 Then on the back, you have Kluger there.
02:44 Like I mentioned before,
02:45 this is called a Kluger in Australia,
02:46 but a Highlander in other markets.
02:48 It's a proximity sensing key,
02:49 so you can leave that in your pocket.
02:51 Then once you're inside, you have a push button start.
02:53 So have a look at this.
02:54 Aside from the engine,
02:55 they have changed a little bit here inside the cabin.
02:58 It was one of the things that we had a major gripe over,
03:00 and it was the infotainment screen.
03:02 It had this tiny sort of pathetic-looking infotainment screen
03:05 when this larger unit was available in the States.
03:08 Finally, it's available here in Australia,
03:10 and it looks to feature one of the infotainment systems
03:13 we've seen before in Lexus vehicles.
03:15 So I'm keen to have a little bit of a play with that shortly.
03:17 So that it's all pretty straightforward.
03:19 A lot of piano black around the top sections there,
03:21 and the rest is sort of fairly functional
03:23 with lots of storage as well.
03:24 In terms of the surfaces here,
03:25 this is all quite hard to the touch,
03:27 but it gets softer as you work your way around there.
03:30 I quite like this sort of stitching setup here as well,
03:33 and this rubber material too.
03:34 So it kind of just gives it a bit of a nice vibe here.
03:37 This center section is soft to the touch,
03:40 and it's soft on the doors as well.
03:42 How soft is it?
03:43 Well, we've got our durometer.
03:44 We've tested the main surfaces in this cabin.
03:46 If you want to see how this car compares to others
03:48 that we've tested before,
03:49 have a look at the link in the description below.
03:51 Now, what about build quality?
03:53 So, a little bit sort of loose through there.
03:57 That's all a little loose up the top there as well.
03:58 And our door test.
04:00 (door thuds)
04:02 It's okay.
04:03 It just sounds a tiny bit tinny.
04:05 So, let's have a chat about this new infotainment system.
04:09 So in terms of size, it is just over 12 inches.
04:13 It is a color touchscreen.
04:15 Some of the lower models do get the smaller screen,
04:18 but from this grade upwards,
04:20 we're getting that bigger screen.
04:21 Then the top spec also has a full digital display here
04:23 ahead of the driver,
04:24 instead of just that smaller LCD screen in the center.
04:27 In terms of functionality, this thing is great.
04:29 So it's nice and fast.
04:31 It's very responsive.
04:32 They've got a nice meaty CPU there as well.
04:34 So everything sort of moves along really nicely.
04:37 And I also like that they've updated the voice controls.
04:40 So the voice controls are now easier to use as well.
04:43 Before I run you through some of the other features,
04:44 it is worth noting that these now all come
04:46 with connected services.
04:47 So this has 12 months complimentary.
04:49 So it does mean you get a button up here
04:51 that says SOS.
04:52 You can hit that to be connected to someone
04:55 to give you assistance if you need.
04:56 You can also track the vehicle, connect it to your app.
04:58 It has all of that remote functionality
05:00 through an embedded SIM, which is pretty cool.
05:02 On the smartphone mirroring front,
05:04 you have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
05:05 Apple CarPlay is wireless.
05:07 Have a look at this.
05:08 Nice and fast and sharp as well.
05:11 So that's pretty impressive.
05:12 And this is what Android Auto looks like.
05:14 So again, full screen integration
05:17 and nice and quick as well.
05:19 So pretty impressed with that overall.
05:21 On the audio front, you have AM/FM, DAB, digital radio,
05:26 plus you also have a six speaker sound system.
05:29 Look, sound system's okay.
05:31 Nothing sort of too crash hot, but you know,
05:33 it does the job.
05:34 Now ahead of the driver here,
05:35 you also have a smaller display.
05:37 We'll flick through some of those functions
05:39 when we go for a drive later on.
05:41 Now safety tech, you have autonomous emergency braking
05:43 with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
05:46 You have blind spot monitoring built into the wing mirror.
05:49 You have radar cruise control.
05:51 You also have a lane keeping assistant
05:53 with a lane centering function that we'll test later on.
05:56 You have rear cross traffic alert.
05:58 On the parking front,
05:59 you have front and rear parking sensors
06:00 and a reverse view camera.
06:01 I'll show you what that looks like.
06:02 I'm actually gonna turn the car on
06:04 'cause it beeps very annoyingly otherwise.
06:06 So I'm turning to reverse.
06:08 Here it is there.
06:09 So the quality of that is actually really good.
06:11 So you can clearly see what's going on there.
06:13 Those guidelines move with the steering wheel.
06:14 And then you can also see the sonar there
06:16 for the rear parking sensors
06:17 and the front parking sensors too.
06:19 So pretty impressed with that.
06:21 Very impressive camera and nice and high resolution.
06:24 And finally, what does the horn sound like?
06:25 Here we go.
06:26 (horn honking)
06:28 Oh, that sounds very confident.
06:29 (horn honking)
06:31 Okay, let's talk practicality
06:33 and we'll start off with our connectivity.
06:36 You have a stack of great connectivity options here,
06:38 which is refreshing compared to some of the other SUVs
06:41 in the segment.
06:42 You've got a 12 volt outlet off to the left,
06:44 two USB-C ports, a USB-A port.
06:47 Here in the center, you've got another 12 volt outlet
06:49 as well.
06:50 In terms of storing your phone,
06:51 there is no wireless phone charging,
06:53 but they've been quite clever
06:55 in the way that they've done this.
06:56 So you've got a little tray up the top here
06:57 that you can slot your phone onto.
06:59 And then there's this little plastic section
07:00 that allows you to run a cable through here.
07:02 So it's not going to be sort of dangled fester
07:05 in terms of cables, which I reckon is great.
07:07 And coffee cup, where are you gonna store that?
07:08 So it fits in there nicely.
07:10 So you're not going to de-lid it.
07:11 You also have teeth in there as well.
07:13 So when you go to lob your big bottle in,
07:14 it holds it in perfectly fine.
07:16 This fits inside the door.
07:18 Let's see if the big bottle fits.
07:20 Oh, it'll leave the cable behind.
07:21 I don't think it actually will by the look of it.
07:23 That is so bizarre.
07:26 There is stacks of room there for them to have made
07:28 that door sort of wider to fit a bottle,
07:32 but for some reason they didn't.
07:33 Other storage, you have a little nook here
07:35 just next to the driver's knee.
07:37 This center console is great.
07:38 So you can slide the lid back to get access to it.
07:41 You have a coin tray up the top,
07:42 but then it goes all the way down.
07:44 It is a really cavernous space in there.
07:47 You've got a glove box down here.
07:49 It's pretty reasonably sized.
07:50 You have storage here, storage here,
07:52 along with down the bottom,
07:54 and finally a sunglasses holder up the top.
07:57 Now, what about your comfort?
07:58 So you have dual zone automatic climate control
08:00 up the front here.
08:01 You also have rear climate control from the front.
08:04 Headed seats for the front row,
08:05 electric seat adjustment as well.
08:07 So you can go forwards or backwards.
08:09 Backrest can go forwards, backwards.
08:11 You can lift the front and the back of the seat as well.
08:14 And then you have lumbar support too.
08:16 Passenger seat is full electric as well.
08:18 Seats are super comfy too.
08:19 We tend to find with Kluger that, I don't know,
08:21 it's just a good long distance tourer
08:23 and the seats just hug you in really nicely.
08:26 In terms of steering adjustment,
08:28 it offers both tilt and reach adjustment.
08:30 And on our reach test,
08:31 all of this stuff is easy to reach while you're driving.
08:34 Okay, second row.
08:35 Look at this.
08:36 There is stacks of knee room there.
08:38 Toe room's excellent.
08:39 Headroom is really good as well.
08:41 This is a super spacious place to be seated.
08:44 In terms of your other creature comforts,
08:45 you've got mat pockets.
08:47 It's where your third zone of climate control is.
08:49 You have two USB-C ports down the bottom here.
08:52 Your air vents are nestled into the roof there
08:54 to give you cooling on your face.
08:56 You've got a center armrest here with two cup holders.
08:59 So bottle can live in there, but there's no teeth.
09:01 So it kind of just moves around a little bit.
09:03 This can then live inside the door as well.
09:06 In terms of the kids,
09:07 you have two ISOFIX points on the two outboard seats
09:10 here in the second row.
09:11 And then three top tether points in the second row.
09:14 None of that for the third row.
09:15 Finally, our window test.
09:17 So it's auto up and down.
09:19 See if it goes all the way down.
09:20 Look at that.
09:21 Good job, Toyota.
09:22 Now, what about the third row?
09:25 I'm gonna try get in there and see what it's like.
09:28 So this slides forward and then I'm going to clamber on in.
09:31 I don't think this space is built for adults,
09:33 but we'll just see what it's like anyway.
09:35 So, okay.
09:37 This is gonna work.
09:39 So I'll lock the seat into that position.
09:42 Yeah, so I've got no knee room at all.
09:46 Headroom is okay.
09:47 Width wise, we're okay as well,
09:49 'cause you've got two cup holders there on either side,
09:51 plus air vents as well.
09:53 Igor, how much room is left there for the passenger?
09:56 Doesn't look like it's a great deal.
09:57 Mind you, there was a fair bit of space there to start with,
09:59 so maybe this isn't eating into it too much.
10:01 But yeah, I think as an adult,
10:02 I probably wouldn't want to be spending
10:03 a long amount of time here,
10:04 but I think as a kid, this should be okay.
10:08 So let's see how much room there is behind the third row.
10:11 So what about your cargo space?
10:12 So you have a powered tailgate.
10:15 Crack that open.
10:16 Pretty slow.
10:17 Gets there in the end though.
10:20 And enough room for me to fit under as well, which is good.
10:23 So here with the third row up,
10:24 you have a little under 250 litres of space.
10:27 It's actually not a bad space at all.
10:29 It's quite sort of cavernous.
10:31 Beneath the cargo floor here,
10:32 you have your tools, tools of the trade.
10:36 This is where you hide your cargo blind as well.
10:39 I'll show you what it looks like with the bags
10:41 just in this section.
10:42 Whoops.
10:43 I think we can actually,
10:45 there you go, fit the suitcase plus the laptop as well.
10:48 If you do want more space,
10:49 you drop your third row out of the way.
10:52 That expands the space to around 550 litres.
10:57 Then you can expand the space by dropping the second row
11:00 as well to 1150 litres.
11:05 So we are on the road in the Kluger now.
11:07 I mentioned earlier, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol.
11:10 So it's now a 2.4 litre turbocharged four-cylinder
11:14 that replaces the outgoing petrol V6 engine,
11:18 which I actually quite liked if I'm honest.
11:20 So this produces around 200 kilowatts of power
11:23 and over 400 Newton metres of torque.
11:25 So they're pretty healthy power figures.
11:27 And that's all made it to an eight-speed
11:28 torque converter automatic transmission.
11:31 And in this particular trim here,
11:32 this is the all-wheel drive version.
11:34 So it's able to send torque to the rear axle as required,
11:37 but you'll see here on the screen
11:39 that it's predominantly driven as a front wheel drive
11:41 until you really lay into it.
11:42 So show you what I mean.
11:44 If I basically jump on the throttle there,
11:46 you can see everything starts happening
11:48 all at the same time.
11:49 But if I'm gentle and light on the throttle,
11:52 it's predominantly just sending torque to the front axle,
11:54 unless we get to a point where I have steering input
11:57 or there's a reason to actually be pulsing
11:59 torque to the rear.
12:00 So what does a 2.4 litre turbo four
12:02 feel like behind the wheel in a Kluger?
12:04 Let's punch this.
12:05 Actually has a fair bit of squirt.
12:08 So over 400 newton metres of torque really does mean
12:11 that you do feel everything that's going on.
12:14 So yeah, it's not a neck snapping amount,
12:16 but it is actually quite pleasing to drive.
12:18 Now this also has a stop-start system.
12:20 So I'm just gonna come to a stop now
12:22 and see what that feels like.
12:25 So here we go, just wait for that to kill.
12:28 Wow, that is so smooth.
12:31 That is really smooth.
12:33 That's an impressive system there.
12:34 I quite like that.
12:36 Now Toyota's combined fuel economy
12:38 is around nine litres per 100 Ks.
12:40 We're currently averaging 12.5 litres per 100 Ks.
12:44 So it is using a bit more fuel than I thought it would.
12:48 I guess this was always the issue with the petrol V6 anyway.
12:50 It is quite a heavy vehicle.
12:52 And then when you put a V6 engine in that instance
12:54 under the bonnet, or in this instance, a turbocharged four,
12:58 it is going to chew through a bit of fuel.
12:59 So I think that is worth keeping in mind
13:02 that while the hybrid is more expensive,
13:05 I can see you paying that back in real terms
13:07 much quicker than you would with other vehicles,
13:10 such as your diesel and petrol alternatives.
13:13 Now I thought I'd call this out.
13:14 I'll talk about the actual drive modes in just a sec,
13:15 but you do have some light off-road modes here.
13:17 So you have mud and sand, normal, rock and dirt.
13:20 You have a hill descent control and a snow mode as well.
13:23 So there's a fair bit of stuff there.
13:26 Let me know in the comments section below,
13:27 do you want us to do some light off-roading
13:29 with the SUVs in this segment?
13:31 If you do, we'll tee it up and we'll make it happen.
13:34 Now, in terms of your actual drive modes,
13:35 you have sport, normal and eco.
13:38 I'm going to bump this up to sport.
13:40 Go for a little punch around the track.
13:41 There is no adaptive damping or anything like that,
13:43 but keen to see what this feels like
13:46 with a little bit of speed.
13:48 Brakes feel okay.
13:50 Tip it into here.
13:51 Look, it has got a fair degree of body roll
13:55 'cause it is quite soft, but has a stack of punch.
13:59 And as I lay into the throttle around the back here,
14:02 you can feel it actively sending torque to the rear axle
14:06 to get things moving.
14:07 We'll put our left kink here with a bump.
14:09 Yeah, it is pretty soft through there,
14:13 but I'm gonna tell you, for a big bus like this,
14:15 it is actually okay.
14:16 It isn't very sharp in the sense
14:19 that you're not gonna be doing
14:20 any sort of mountain runs with it,
14:22 but in saying that, it is very predictable
14:25 and you know exactly what it's gonna do.
14:27 So, let's see what it's like over this back section here
14:31 as we get to our back straight.
14:32 Yeah, look, it all actually feels pretty good.
14:38 And see what that mid-range is like on the back straight.
14:43 We'll lay into that.
14:44 All right, here it comes.
14:45 Yeah, look, it's picking up speed there.
14:52 And a nudge 160.
14:53 Yeah, nice.
14:56 That's actually not too bad.
14:58 Okay, time for our sine waves.
14:59 We'll dial up 130 k's an hour.
15:01 These simulate a choppy section of highway road,
15:05 such as when you're overtaking
15:07 or in parts of Australia where you can do 130.
15:10 Wow, it is already feeling very wallowy through there.
15:12 So, wow.
15:14 That is terrible.
15:18 Wow.
15:19 I'm just looking back at Eagle here.
15:21 I think this is potentially one of the worst cars
15:24 we've tested over the sine waves.
15:26 That's crazy.
15:27 Yeah, look, I'm pretty disappointed with that.
15:29 That just shows you that Toyota really hasn't gone to the effort
15:32 to drive this in country Australia
15:35 and actually get a proper feel for how it should be tuned.
15:37 It is way too soft.
15:39 And as a result of that, when you hit the first bump,
15:41 it's sort of really starting to feel very light on its feet.
15:45 By the time you've hit the second or third,
15:47 you're starting to bring the body down
15:49 as the next oscillation comes up,
15:51 and it really is just causing it to crash over that.
15:53 So, you can amplify that if you have a whole family on board
15:56 and you go to overtake on a freeway.
15:58 Yeah, it is really not very impressive.
16:00 And I think if you are going to be doing any serious driving in the country,
16:03 I'd be looking at an aftermarket suspension setup.
16:06 And it's a shame because in and around the city,
16:07 it's actually quite comfortable.
16:08 It is really sort of a nice place to be seated
16:11 because it is very soft and feels refined in that sense.
16:15 But, yeah, once the speed does pick up on a dodgy section of road like that,
16:18 you're definitely going to feel it.
16:19 OK, time for our dodgy country road section.
16:23 We do this at 90km/h.
16:25 I'm thinking given how soft the suspension is here,
16:28 it should actually excel.
16:29 And we've got our condensed sine wave coming up as well.
16:33 God, this is a terrible stretch of road.
16:35 OK, so, condensed sine wave.
16:37 We'll see how this performs over this.
16:40 Yeah, not very well. It is floating right over that,
16:43 and that is because the ride is so soft,
16:45 it's not able to bring itself back down to meet those grooves.
16:48 But in saying that, it is actually really quite comfortable
16:51 over this dodgy section of road.
16:52 This sort of simulates a corrugated dirt road or something like that,
16:57 and it's sort of really floating over it nicely at 90km/h.
17:00 In terms of just low-speed drivability,
17:02 I really like the way this steering feels.
17:04 It's very light, so it means parking is quite straightforward,
17:07 especially with that pretty decent reverse view camera.
17:10 On the visibility front,
17:11 I can see clearly down the front of the bonnet there,
17:13 big wing mirrors as well.
17:15 Visibility out the back isn't amazing,
17:17 especially if you do have that third row up.
17:19 It is quite compromised there,
17:20 so thinking that Toyota could do with one of those digital mirrors,
17:24 'cause they actually come in really handy
17:25 if you do have a third row
17:27 that prevents you from actually seeing properly out the back.
17:29 So, you have a break towing capacity of 2,000kg
17:33 and a turning circle of just over 11m.
17:35 Just in terms of road noise, look, it's not too bad.
17:38 I am finding on the coarser sections of course-chip roads
17:41 that it does tend to come into the cabin a bit at highway speeds,
17:44 but it isn't anything too bad.
17:46 OK, time to test our semi-autonomous function.
17:49 So, I'm gonna get the speed up to 70km/h,
17:53 and then I'm going to set the cruise control.
17:56 And then what I'm gonna do is switch on our lane-centring function.
17:59 It also has the lane-centring and steering assist active.
18:03 So, we're gonna test this in the three outer lanes.
18:05 So far, so good in this lane.
18:07 It's keeping us fairly centred there without sort of too many dramas.
18:11 I am only just holding the wheel here.
18:12 If you're using this stuff on the road,
18:14 you're gonna have to hold the wheel properly,
18:16 but just for the purposes of this test, it's doing well.
18:20 We're gonna jump onto the two outer-banked lanes now as well.
18:23 We're not testing how well the car banks.
18:24 What we wanna do is test how much torque it's willing to apply
18:27 to the steering to hold it within that lane.
18:30 So, here comes the centre lane,
18:32 so we'll just wait for that to go active.
18:34 OK, so it's kind of...
18:37 There we go, that's active.
18:39 I've let go of the wheel.
18:40 That's doing a very good job there.
18:42 We're staying pretty much dead centre to that lane,
18:45 so that's really awesome.
18:47 OK, jump up to the third lane here.
18:49 Let's see how this fares.
18:51 So, there it is there. Wait for that to go active.
18:54 If it can, it might not want to.
18:57 No, it doesn't look like it.
19:00 Yeah, so it's only detecting one...
19:04 Oh, no, there we go. It's detecting two.
19:05 It is kind of a little indecisive.
19:07 It doesn't know what it wants to do,
19:08 so I'll let it try just a little bit longer.
19:11 It's kind of halfway there at the moment.
19:15 Trying to get a little closer to this lane.
19:18 No, it is not liking it.
19:20 If I let go of the wheel there...
19:21 (BEEPING)
19:23 Oh, no, it came together at the end.
19:24 So, hold on, let me just...
19:26 Let me just try that one more time.
19:28 Sorry, I'm wasting everyone's time here.
19:29 OK, so that's seeing the lines.
19:33 Yeah, but it's not actually activating
19:37 the lane-centring portion of things.
19:40 So, it is a pass in lane one and two,
19:43 but a fail here for lane three.
19:46 Yeah, no matter how much I try, it's sort of...
19:49 It comes in at the last second, but...
19:51 Oh, look, it's steering itself back in.
19:54 And then it goes again.
19:55 No. Alright, that's a fail there,
19:56 but a very good pass for lane one and two.
20:00 OK, it's time for some performance testing.
20:02 There is no official 0-100 time,
20:04 but I'll pop this into sport mode.
20:06 We will turn traction control off just to be on the safe side,
20:10 load up a few revs and go all the way through to 120.
20:12 So, here we go.
20:13 A little slow off the start, but it's moving.
20:23 Alright.
20:28 There's 100.
20:29 And 120. Alright, let's see what this looks like.
20:35 So, 0-100, 8.86 seconds.
20:39 So, not the quickest thing in the world,
20:41 but also not the slowest, and 80-120 in 5.52 seconds,
20:45 which isn't too bad.
20:46 That's the figure you want to know if you're overtaking.
20:48 So, once it is moving, it actually has a little bit of punch there,
20:51 which is pretty good.
20:52 Let's go do a brake.
20:53 We'll see how quickly it stops from 100 kph.
20:55 OK, let's see how it goes.
20:57 Crank this up to 100.
20:59 And then we'll hit our braking marker.
21:05 Let's see what it all looks like.
21:07 There it is.
21:09 (ENGINE REVS)
21:11 Gee, it is a little bit ponderous once it comes to a stop.
21:14 It's kind of just fishtailing around a little bit there.
21:17 So, 100-0, 3.21 seconds and 43.51 metres.
21:22 So, it's actually not a bad stopping performance,
21:24 despite that sort of little sensation there.
21:27 So, yeah, not a bad effort.
21:28 If you do want to see how Kluger compares to other cars
21:31 that we've tested before,
21:32 have a look at the link in the description below.
21:33 Time for our reverse speed test.
21:35 Let's see how quickly it'll go in reverse.
21:38 I did find with Hilux that if you turn traction control off,
21:42 it will actually go a little bit faster.
21:43 So, here we go.
21:44 That is 47 kilometres an hour.
21:52 So, the Toyota Kluger.
21:56 Look, I was a little bit sad to see the V6 go
21:59 because the petrol V6 was such a smooth engine,
22:01 made a great note and was just a lot of fun to drive.
22:04 But this really takes it up another notch.
22:06 It has so much punch behind the wheel.
22:08 And if you don't want that sort of boring driving sensation of the hybrid,
22:11 this really fills in those gaps.
22:13 It does use a lot more fuel than the hybrid,
22:15 so that is worth keeping in mind.
22:16 But if you do want a little bit of fun behind the wheel
22:19 and a normal driving experience with a great gearbox,
22:22 I think this is the one to go for.
22:23 Those big interior improvements also make a massive change as well.
22:27 That tech has totally uplifted the inside of this car.
22:30 So, very impressed with it.
22:32 Let me know, have you bought a Kluger?
22:34 Have you got a new one on the go?
