Slovenian speedway rider Matija Duh died at 06h00 on Sunday, 03 February 2013 at the Hospital Penna in Bahía Blanca, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he was recovered since Wednesday, 30 January 2013, after a serious accident during a speedway meeting at the Aldea Romana dirt track in Bahía Blanca.
The accident occurred during the ninth round of the Argentinean International Speedway Championships at Bahía Blanca, organized by the Federación Bonaerense de Motociclismo.
Shortly after the start of the fourth heat of the 500 cm3 class, Matija Duh collided at high speed with the rear wheel of the Italian rider Guglielmo Franchetti's bike and fell down. He hit his head on his own bike which was thrown back by the tyre wall, Duh himself was then hurtled into the tyre wall at the entrance to the pits. In the crash he received serious head injuries and was taken to the Hospital Penna in Bahía Blanca, where doctors confirmed he was in a critical condition. He passed away 96 hours later.
Matija Duh was 23-year-old. His wife and his brother arrived to Bahía Blanca, Argentina, from Slovenia one day before his death.
