00:00 Malaysia Airlines Berhad is on track expanding its fleet with four Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft
00:09 and three more arriving in the coming week. Malaysia Airlines Berhad's parent company,
00:14 Malaysia Aviation Group or MAG's Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Idzham Ismail,
00:20 said the national carrier is set to receive an additional six Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in 2024.
00:28 "Yes, we are getting three this year and contractual is six next year. We will deploy
00:34 this aeroplane primarily domestic in the ASEAN region for now."
00:38 He said this after the launch of MAG's first B737 MAX 8 aircraft at the MAB Engineering
00:45 Complex on Monday. Transport Minister Anthony Look, who officiated the event,
00:50 said that the government is supportive of MAG's efforts to modernize its fleet for growth
00:55 while maintaining its role in customer service and connectivity as Malaysia's flag carrier.
01:00 "Any additional new aircraft will enhance the fleet and more importantly is that in terms of
01:06 frequencies and in terms of efficiency of operations. As you know for us a few parameters
01:14 are very important. First is connectivity. We want MAG to fly to more destinations,
01:20 improve frequencies to some of the destinations. And also in terms of on-time performance,
01:25 when you have more aircraft, it will be better management in terms of operations and that will
01:30 help to enhance the operations and improve OTP." The arrival of the new Boeing 737-9 aircraft
01:40 marks the beginning of the gradual expansion plan for MAG's narrow-body fleet.
01:45 The aircraft embarked on its first commercial flight to Kota Kinabalu at 3.40pm via MAB
