Transcript
00:00 G'day, I'm Paul.
00:01 So we recently reviewed the Great Wall Motors Canon,
00:03 and in that review, a lot of you asked us to do the LDV-T60.
00:07 Well, it has just received a facelift
00:09 and a bit of a name change, so this is it here.
00:11 It's the facelifted LDV-T60 Max,
00:15 and this one here is the top spec Lux version.
00:17 So it's called the LDV-T60 Max Lux.
00:20 Bit of a mouthful.
00:21 This one here is priced at a little over $40,000.
00:25 It competes with things like the Great Wall Motors Canon,
00:28 the SsangYong Musso, and the Mitsubishi Triton.
00:31 There are plenty of competitors in that segment.
00:33 This is a little bit too much, though.
00:34 The entire range kicks off at just over $30,000.
00:38 Today, we're gonna do a detailed review of this car.
00:40 So if you do wanna skip ahead to other parts of the review,
00:42 you can use the time codes up on the screen there,
00:44 or if you're on YouTube,
00:45 you can scroll down and use the chapters below.
00:47 And if you haven't done so already,
00:48 subscribe, press the bell icon.
00:50 That's gonna tell you every single time
00:52 we drive facelifted cars.
00:53 Okay, exterior.
00:55 So you've got six external colors to pick from.
00:58 All but this white color are an additional $500.
01:02 So this is the facelift.
01:03 So you remember the old one
01:04 sort of had a bigger headlight cluster there,
01:06 a slightly smaller grille.
01:08 This has just gone for the enormous grille look,
01:10 and then this slimline headlight cluster up the top here.
01:14 So look, I think it's divided opinion.
01:17 I don't reckon it looks all that good,
01:18 but cameraman Egor thinks it looks good,
01:20 plus the other guys at the office
01:21 think it looks good as well.
01:22 So I'm not the last word on style,
01:24 but I'll leave it up to you guys to decide that.
01:26 So LDV logo up the top here.
01:28 And then the rest of this grille section is just cooling.
01:31 So you've got a set of cooling elements behind there.
01:33 You've got a radar just here
01:35 and a camera here for the 360 camera.
01:37 And then this bottom section here is a protector
01:39 if you do any off-road driving.
01:41 In terms of the headlights,
01:42 you've got a set of daytime LED running lights up the top.
01:45 Then the headlight cluster is down the bottom here.
01:47 These are LED headlights as well.
01:50 They work good at night, not amazing though.
01:52 So I would like to see a little bit more projection
01:54 out of these given they are LED.
01:56 Around the side here,
01:57 you've got a set of 17-inch alloy wheels.
02:00 And in terms of the design,
02:00 you've just got that machined finish on the outside
02:03 and kind of a graphite finish on the inside there.
02:06 Big profile on that tire too.
02:08 So it's a highway terrain tire.
02:09 Now there is an interesting suspension setup here.
02:11 So both the entry-level Pro version
02:14 and the top spec Luxe version have leaf spring setups,
02:17 but the top spec is designed for comfort.
02:19 So it's tuned for a comfortable ride
02:21 and it's tuning done here in Australia.
02:23 And the entry-level is done for payload.
02:25 So there is a slight payload difference
02:27 between them of around 200 kilos.
02:29 So that is the big difference there.
02:30 And it's worth keeping in mind,
02:31 if you are buying and need the payload,
02:33 you're gonna have to go to the entry-level
02:34 as opposed to this top spec version.
02:36 And I'm keen to see how it does ride
02:38 because it is one of the few Chinese units
02:40 that's actually tuned here in Australia.
02:42 So hopefully that means the ride is better
02:44 than some of the alternatives that we have.
02:46 Up the top here, Bi-Turbo.
02:48 I think that's, Ford Ranger has that on the side.
02:51 So I can see where they're getting their inspiration from.
02:53 Bit of chrome there,
02:54 and that chrome continues here on the mirror caps as well.
02:57 Got an indicator built into there,
02:58 plus the camera nestled into the side there as well.
03:02 So the side's a little bit bare.
03:03 There's no side steps.
03:05 There's sort of nothing really of note here.
03:07 No roof rails, nothing.
03:08 So yeah, that's interesting.
03:09 Come around to the back, I'll show you the tray dimensions.
03:12 Okay, so as you pull this handle, that drops the tray.
03:15 There is no torsion bar there,
03:17 which is a little bit annoying
03:18 'cause that's a fairly heavy lift.
03:20 You've got a tray length of just under 1.5 metres
03:23 and a depth of 530 mil,
03:25 and there's just over 1100 millimetres
03:28 between the wheel arches.
03:29 And I mentioned earlier the payload differences
03:31 between the entry level and the top spec.
03:33 So the top spec is 750 kilos,
03:36 while the entry level has a payload of just under one tonne.
03:39 So the differences there.
03:41 You've got hooks off to the side here.
03:42 There's no 12 volt outlet,
03:44 but you do get this spray-in bed liner.
03:46 So you have LED taillight elements off to the side there
03:49 with incandescent globes in the centre.
03:52 You've got LDV T60 badging and then Sake Motor,
03:55 which is the parent company.
03:57 Let's talk about this.
03:58 So plastic, it says T60 Max.
04:01 It has just been fitted extremely poorly.
04:04 So it's got this rubber seal around it
04:06 and it's already loose in the centre section there.
04:09 If I was buying one of these,
04:10 I'd probably just take that off altogether.
04:12 It's just a weird thing to have.
04:14 You have sidesteps here to retrieve things from the tray
04:17 and a brake to towing capacity of 3000 kilos.
04:20 So let me know what you reckon about the facelifted version
04:23 of the T60 Max in the comment section below.
04:25 So we're inside the T60 Max.
04:29 We'll start off with the key.
04:30 Here it is.
04:31 So you have lock, unlock, panic.
04:34 And then on the back is the LDV symbol.
04:37 This is a proximity sensing key.
04:39 So you can just leave that in your pocket.
04:40 And then once you're inside,
04:41 you have a push button start to switch everything on.
04:44 In terms of the design,
04:45 I think it's actually really quite nicely presented.
04:47 This screen's new to the facelift,
04:49 but the rest of it's sort of fairly familiar,
04:51 which means scratchy surfaces up the top there.
04:54 And then it sort of continues down the side there,
04:56 but you do have these soft touch pieces along the edge
04:59 to rest your knee on while you're driving.
05:01 And then a bit of piano black around here
05:03 and around the screen itself.
05:05 It really is just inoffensive, I think.
05:07 And it'll be interesting to see
05:08 once the new Ford Ranger's released
05:11 that big sort of vertical screen
05:12 that they're going to be releasing with that model,
05:15 whether these brands now try and mimic that,
05:18 because obviously this kind of thing
05:19 looks great at the moment,
05:20 but it's going to look very small and unsophisticated
05:23 compared to the big screen we'll see on Ranger in due course.
05:26 So yeah, we'll watch that space.
05:29 In terms of the touch points,
05:30 so soft to the touch there and soft over on the door,
05:33 which means while you are driving,
05:35 they're all going to be good.
05:36 How soft are they?
05:36 Well, we've got our durometer.
05:38 We've tested the main surfaces in this cabin.
05:40 If you want to see how this car compares to others
05:42 that we've tested before,
05:43 have a look at the link in the description.
05:46 Now, build quality.
05:47 See what it's like.
05:49 That's pretty wonky just there,
05:51 but the rest of this feels fairly solid.
05:54 And do you own a T60?
05:56 Let me know in the comment section,
05:57 how has it been over time?
05:58 Has it sort of stood the test of time?
06:00 Door.
06:01 Sounds okay.
06:04 A little bit tinny though.
06:06 Let's talk infotainment.
06:07 So this is a new infotainment system.
06:09 It's 10.25 inches in size.
06:12 Really nicely presented and very high resolution.
06:16 I love the detail in that screen.
06:18 It's a really good setup.
06:20 And I think in the entry-level utes,
06:22 this is probably the best infotainment system out there
06:24 in terms of the functionality and the display.
06:26 In terms of radio, you have AM and FM radio.
06:29 No digital radio, which I reckon is a bit disappointing.
06:31 And it seems to be a common theme amongst the Chinese utes
06:34 that they don't have digital radio,
06:35 whether it's a hardware thing or a software thing,
06:38 I don't really know, but nothing here.
06:40 And that's all plumbed through a six-speaker sound system.
06:43 Sound system is average, it's not amazing.
06:45 So you won't be in a rock concert setup here.
06:49 Outside of that, you have the ability to go through
06:52 all of the different sort of settings here for your phone
06:55 with Bluetooth connectivity.
06:56 And then of course you can control the phone
06:58 using the steering wheel here.
06:59 There is no voice recognition setup.
07:01 So unless you have the phone connected,
07:03 there's no way to get the car to do anything
07:06 outside of just sending commands through Siri.
07:09 Smartphone mirroring.
07:09 It's interesting, most cars come with Apple CarPlay
07:12 and Android Auto, whereas here it just has Apple CarPlay
07:16 and QD Link.
07:17 So no Android Auto there.
07:20 In terms of Apple CarPlay itself,
07:22 look at that, full screen integration,
07:23 really sharp and quick enough.
07:26 Like it's a tiny bit laggy, but for the most part,
07:28 that's pretty good.
07:29 And I think that as a standard integration is fantastic.
07:33 Outside of that, there's really not much else going on here.
07:35 There's no inbuilt navigation,
07:36 that's all done through your smartphone mirroring setup.
07:38 So let's touch on safety.
07:40 And I think this is probably the bit
07:41 that I'm most put off by this vehicle.
07:44 It has a five-star safety rating,
07:45 but that's from quite a while ago.
07:48 I think it's around five years ago
07:49 that it was actually tested.
07:50 This is now one of the few units on the market
07:52 that doesn't actually have autonomous emergency braking,
07:54 which is the tech that stops the car if you don't.
07:56 And it really doesn't have much else
07:58 in addition to that anyway.
07:59 There's no blind spot monitoring.
08:01 And then if you jump over here into the car menu,
08:03 all you have is a lane departure warning
08:04 and a fatigue warning, but that's about it.
08:07 So it is a little disappointing that this is so
08:09 under protected in terms of that active safety equipment.
08:12 You really do have to look elsewhere
08:14 if that stuff is important to you.
08:15 When it comes to parking,
08:16 you only have rear parking sensors,
08:18 but you do get a 360 camera.
08:20 I'll show you what that looks like.
08:21 I'm gonna start the car, pop this into reverse.
08:25 There it is there.
08:27 So really not very good quality.
08:29 It's very low quality there.
08:31 The top down views also pretty much redundant
08:33 'cause you can't really see anything around the car.
08:35 You do get different angles that you can choose though.
08:37 So that's out the front there, that's out the back,
08:40 and you've got side views as well.
08:42 But yeah, like I said, the quality really isn't that good.
08:44 Moving on to practicality,
08:46 and we'll start with your connectivity.
08:47 So down the front here, you've got two USB ports.
08:50 One of those is for your smartphone mirroring.
08:52 Where are you gonna put your phone?
08:53 Well, let me just disconnect this.
08:55 Your phone can live down the front there.
08:56 It's not a wireless charging pad, but it is gripped,
08:59 which means it's not gonna go anywhere.
09:01 Or you can pop your phone in the cup holders,
09:03 should you so desire.
09:04 What about your coffee?
09:05 That fits, actually it doesn't really.
09:07 So yeah, a small coffee like this,
09:09 you're gonna probably take the lid off
09:11 and you'll need to prop it up
09:12 when you put that inside that cup holder.
09:15 In terms of bottle storage, fits into there,
09:18 but you don't have any teeth.
09:18 So that kind of moves around a fair bit.
09:20 But you do get cup holders in front of the air vents.
09:24 So you can pop your bottle in there or your coffee,
09:26 and it'll either keep it cold on a hot day
09:28 or warm on a cold day.
09:30 And then down here,
09:31 you've got bottle storage inside the door.
09:33 See if it fits our big bottle as well.
09:35 Yes, winner, winner.
09:38 So you can stick a big bottle in there if you need to.
09:40 And then in the center here,
09:41 you have a reasonably sized storage area.
09:43 This also slides forwards and backwards.
09:46 Glove box, pretty small.
09:48 I think by the time you get the manual in there,
09:49 that's all going to be taken up.
09:51 And finally, you have a sunglasses holder up the top.
09:54 Comfort comes in the form of single zone
09:57 automatic climate control.
09:59 The seats are electrically adjustable for the front row.
10:02 So that's forwards, backwards.
10:03 The backrest moves forwards and backwards,
10:05 and then you can lift the seat height as well.
10:08 The seats, they are interesting.
10:10 So the entry level comes with cloth seats,
10:12 but this has a leather finish.
10:14 I think that means it's just parts of it are leather.
10:16 I don't know that all of it is leather.
10:18 Seats are fairly comfortable, but they are pretty firm.
10:21 Steering, it is plastic.
10:22 It's not really leather wrapped, which is a shame.
10:25 And it only offers tilt adjustment.
10:28 There is no reach adjustment.
10:30 And on our reach test, all of this is easy to reach
10:33 while you're driving.
10:34 Yeah, before I jump in and show you the room,
10:37 let me demonstrate some of the features of the second row.
10:41 So you can drop the backrest down.
10:43 That gives you a little bit of storage behind the seat there,
10:45 and then also your two top tether points.
10:48 If I lift that back up,
10:50 you can also lift the base of the seat,
10:52 and that reveals two storage areas.
10:54 We've got one here for the jack,
10:56 and then another here that is empty
10:58 and includes some random piece of electronic equipment.
11:02 Hop in, we'll use our handy handle.
11:06 And I won't sit on that and break that.
11:09 So once you're inside,
11:11 you have a reasonable amount of knee room.
11:13 Toe room is great, and headroom is really impressive.
11:17 You know what surprises me?
11:18 I just don't understand how you can get into an Amarok,
11:21 for example, and my knees are wedged inside
11:25 the back of the seat, hard up against some metal bar.
11:28 Yet with this, which is similar in size,
11:30 they've managed to package the interior so much better.
11:32 So love that layout,
11:34 and it means that you can carry your mates in here
11:36 if you need to, and everything will be good.
11:38 So in terms of other creature comforts,
11:40 you have a center armrest here with two cup holders.
11:42 Chuck our bottle in there.
11:43 Again, no teeth, so that just sort of falls over.
11:46 You do have storage inside the doors though, which is good.
11:49 You have air vents over here, 12-volt outlet,
11:52 mat pockets as well,
11:53 and then ISOFIX points on your two outboard seats
11:56 to join those top tether points.
11:58 So look, it's actually not a bad place to be seated,
12:02 if I'm honest.
12:03 So we've just hit the road in the T60 Max,
12:08 and if it sounds like I'm yelling at you,
12:10 it's because I am.
12:11 It is a really, really noisy diesel engine,
12:13 both from outside, but inside the cabin.
12:16 And I'll run you through why that's a bit of a trade-off
12:18 in just a second.
12:19 Powering this is a two-liter,
12:21 four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine.
12:23 It makes 160 kilowatts of power,
12:25 but most impressively, 500 newton-meters of torque.
12:29 Means that it's up there with the best in the segment,
12:31 which is Ford Ranger and the Toyota Hilux
12:32 in terms of torque output.
12:34 So that's really good.
12:35 And then from behind the wheel, like if you give this a kick,
12:38 it gives you a really solid push in the back.
12:41 It's a nice meaty feel to it,
12:43 and it doesn't feel underdone,
12:45 which is what you can get with some of these utes.
12:47 And the reason I was saying that the sound
12:49 isn't that big of a deal is because the trade-off
12:51 is you're getting 500 newton-meters of torque,
12:53 and you can really feel it across the rev band.
12:55 It doesn't need to hunt through gears.
12:57 Speaking of which, eight-speed ZF automatic transmission,
13:00 so it's a proper German gearbox,
13:02 and it suits the engine really nicely.
13:05 Now, the one thing I did notice, though,
13:06 that I just find really strange,
13:08 and I find this across quite a few of these utes,
13:12 is they just lack go off the line.
13:15 So if I come to a complete stop here,
13:17 it holds second gear for a second
13:18 before it drops back into first.
13:20 But if I put the power down,
13:21 nothing, nothing, nothing, everything.
13:24 So I can load up the throttle,
13:25 and then it goes straight away.
13:29 So it's clearly just a calibration there of some sort.
13:32 If I was buying one of these,
13:33 the first thing I would do is put like a,
13:36 I don't know, a different throttle map on it,
13:37 so it gives me everything to start with.
13:39 And just in terms of the gearbox as well,
13:41 let's have a little play with it here.
13:43 Look, it feels really confident.
13:45 You can get stuck into it,
13:46 and it's always ready to go and eager to please.
13:48 Like, you're never really left wanting.
13:50 So I like the way that this is set up.
13:52 Now in terms of fuel economy,
13:53 LDV claims 9.3 litres per 100 Ks.
13:57 So we'll look at what we're sitting on.
13:59 We are currently on 9.6.
14:02 So it's pretty much bang on exactly where it needs to be,
14:05 which is pretty impressive.
14:06 Let's talk about drive modes.
14:07 So you have Eco,
14:09 which kind of just dulls the throttle even more.
14:12 You have Normal, and then you have Power.
14:14 One more push of that sharpens everything up a little bit
14:17 and makes it a bit more eager to please.
14:18 Let's talk about how this actually sends torque to the ground.
14:21 You can actually select between two high, four high, four low,
14:24 but there's also an Auto mode.
14:26 And the Auto mode's good
14:27 because you're able to leave it in that,
14:28 and it will automatically then engage the front axle
14:31 if it detects slip.
14:32 And that, I think, is the most balanced setting.
14:34 We've seen that with Mitsubishi
14:35 and the Super Select four-wheel drive system.
14:38 I think this is such a great innovation,
14:39 and it means that you don't have to be driving
14:41 in four high on sealed surfaces
14:43 and then running the risk of damaging your driveline.
14:46 Now, what's it like through some corners?
14:48 We've got our corner coming up here.
14:50 Look, it's okay.
14:52 It is a dual-cab ute,
14:53 so we don't expect it to do sort of anything too crazy,
14:56 but the steering is, just has no steering feel.
14:58 Have a look at this.
14:59 I'm sort of moving the wheel around,
15:01 and it's not affecting the direction of the car.
15:02 This stuff was kind of gone
15:04 when they moved away from hydraulic steering systems,
15:08 and they were able to sort of engineer the E-Pass systems in,
15:11 so I have no idea why there is no feel through that wheel.
15:14 That's really strange.
15:16 Now, there is no official 0 to 100 time,
15:18 but we've put it up against our stopwatch,
15:20 and this is how it went.
15:21 What's the ride like, though?
15:36 Well, this is the curious thing.
15:37 I was expecting this to be pretty poor,
15:39 but this has had an Australian ride and handling tune,
15:41 and it kind of shows
15:43 because they've gone to a lot of effort to make sure
15:45 that it works across a variety of conditions,
15:46 so that's in and around the city
15:48 and then out over cobblestones
15:50 and the type of terrible roads here we have in the country.
15:52 They've really gone to that effort
15:54 to make sure that it is a pleasing place to be seated.
15:57 Same can't be said for some of the other Chinese utes
15:59 in this segment,
16:00 so on the upshot, this is sort of well-kitted out there
16:04 in terms of the feel behind the wheel on the ride.
16:07 What about your visibility?
16:08 So, out the front, it's good.
16:09 This seating position is really high up,
16:12 so it's quite a commanding driving position.
16:13 I can see the edges of the bonnet there.
16:15 The wing mirrors are nice and big,
16:16 but no blind spot monitoring,
16:18 which is pretty disappointing for a vehicle this size.
16:20 Visibility out the rear is fine.
16:21 The envelope is nice and big, so no real complaints there.
16:24 Now, what about your turning circle?
16:26 12.6 metres, so it's a fairly big turning circle.
16:31 We'll give it a crack here.
16:33 Yeah, we're probably gonna be doing three-point turns
16:38 every now and then,
16:38 and then in terms of the steering,
16:40 it is sort of pretty heavy there at low speeds,
16:43 so when it comes to parking and that kind of thing,
16:45 you're gonna have to put just a little bit more effort in.
16:48 Okay, so let's do a little bit of light off-roading.
16:52 In terms of the four-wheel drive specs,
16:53 you have an approach angle of 27 degrees.
16:56 That's the angle of the face you can approach
16:58 before you hit the front of the car.
16:59 You have a departure angle of 24.2 degrees,
17:02 which is the same, but in reverse,
17:04 you have a ground clearance of 215 millimetres
17:06 and a wading depth of 550 millimetres.
17:09 In addition to that, as I mentioned
17:11 while we were out for a drive,
17:11 you've got two high, four high, four low, and auto.
17:14 Now, if none of that makes any sense,
17:16 do you click up here to watch a video we shot
17:18 that explains four-wheel drive controls.
17:20 It's also a rear diff lock,
17:21 but there's a special way that that operates,
17:24 and I'll explain that a little later on.
17:25 So let's give Log Mountain a shot
17:28 and our descent just in auto mode.
17:29 I'm just keen to see how it goes here on its own.
17:32 There's a hill descent control there as well
17:33 that I'll test on the way down.
17:35 Okay, here we go.
17:37 So this is one of the problems,
17:38 because it is, the throttle is so laggy,
17:41 it's surging as I try and climb this gently.
17:44 Kind of gives me nothing,
17:45 and then everything as I put in a little bit more throttle.
17:47 So in terms of off-roading,
17:49 it's gonna be a little bit annoying,
17:51 but it is getting there.
17:52 It is dry at the moment, so it's probably pretty easy,
17:54 but it got up there in auto mode on its own,
17:57 which is great because it means it's able to detect
17:59 that it needs to use four high instead of two high,
18:02 and it's sort of climbing as it goes.
18:04 Now, let's try hill descent control.
18:07 Okay, the button is not doing anything.
18:10 I'll try that in full low.
18:12 Still not doing anything.
18:15 Okay, so I guess there's no hill descent control.
18:20 We'll keep that in auto,
18:21 and we'll just go down on our own
18:23 without hill descent control.
18:26 That's bizarre.
18:27 I've tried every combination there,
18:29 and that's still not working.
18:30 Okay, okay, so we'll head down here.
18:32 We've got some pretty deep ruts,
18:33 so I'm keen to see whether we touch
18:37 on anything on the way down here.
18:39 Brake pedal has good feel for this downhill section.
18:43 Look, this is all pretty straightforward.
18:46 It's going down without any dramas.
18:47 We've got full compression at the back there.
18:50 It's actually pretty good.
18:50 It's nice and comfortable in here as well, which is good.
18:53 Okay, so let's go over to our Offset Mogul.
18:56 Now, this is the interesting thing
18:58 I mentioned about the rear diff lock.
18:59 There is no button here,
19:00 which you would traditionally find in one of these
19:03 that activates the rear diff lock.
19:04 This has an automatic locking rear diff.
19:07 So what that means is once it detects
19:09 a differential in speed between the two wheels
19:12 on the rear axle, it will engage the diff lock
19:14 and then send you through.
19:15 So what I'll do, I'm gonna put this
19:16 into two high for the moment,
19:18 just so I can demonstrate how that works,
19:20 and then we'll go through this again in auto
19:22 just to see whether it can sort itself out
19:24 when we get to the Offset Mogul
19:25 and we have a wheel in the air.
19:27 Okay, here we go.
19:28 So two-wheel drive first.
19:30 Come through our seesaw section.
19:32 I swear this gets deeper every time I come through.
19:37 It has been raining a lot.
19:38 Okay, so we'll get to this center section
19:39 and we'll just have a look at our flex test.
19:42 See if we can open and close that door.
19:45 So we're about halfway there.
19:46 The car is teetering on the edge.
19:48 Oh, that's interesting.
19:51 It's catching there a little when I go to close the door.
19:54 So body's not quite as strong as some of the utes
19:58 that we've tested here,
19:59 because it is catching when I go to close.
20:01 It means there is a fair bit of flex on the body there
20:03 when we have that condition of wheels off the ground.
20:05 I'm gonna let off the brake here
20:08 and roll onto the throttle.
20:09 There you go.
20:13 That's pretty straightforward.
20:14 So I could hear the traction control working there.
20:16 It got us through without any dramas.
20:17 What I'll do now though is switch traction control off,
20:22 because I want to really force that rear diff lock
20:24 to engage when we get to this section,
20:27 where we basically have a wheel entirely off the ground.
20:30 So there it is there.
20:31 It's spinning freely at the back.
20:33 I'm now going to roll off the brake,
20:35 roll onto the throttle.
20:36 It's like a gunshot.
20:39 Holy crap.
20:40 So we'll do it again.
20:41 Roll off the brake, roll onto the throttle.
20:43 That is interesting.
20:46 So yeah, what it's doing there,
20:48 it detects that there is slip between the axle.
20:51 Once it gets far enough, it engages the diff lock
20:54 and all of a sudden you have torque going
20:56 to both of those rear wheels,
20:57 instead of it just going to that free spinning one.
20:59 And it's quite violent when it activates.
21:01 It just sort of shunts you all of a sudden.
21:03 So yeah, that was really interesting.
21:06 So yeah, not the best system in the world,
21:10 because it is a little unpredictable.
21:11 And if you are doing some sort of hardcore off-roading,
21:14 you really want to just be able to activate it yourself
21:16 and just let it do its own work.
21:17 So, okay, let's do that again.
21:18 This time we're in auto mode.
21:19 Traction control is on.
21:21 I'm going to let the car do all the work here.
21:23 It'll figure out, hopefully,
21:24 that it needs to be out of two-wheel drive
21:26 and in four-wheel drive.
21:28 We'll get straight through this section.
21:29 We've already done this.
21:31 And we'll go straight onto the part now
21:33 where we have a wheel in the air.
21:36 All right, so we're approaching now.
21:38 Have that wheel off the ground.
21:40 The car's sort of teetering on its own.
21:42 Foot off the brake.
21:43 Oh, that's excellent.
21:45 I don't even need to touch the throttle.
21:46 I'm getting to the point now where I do.
21:48 Roll onto the throttle and away it goes.
21:50 So there you go.
21:51 The car has detected it needs to be
21:52 in four-wheel drive high range.
21:54 It's used traction control to stop the wheel spinning
21:56 and it gets us out without even trying.
21:57 So really intelligent setup and I like how that works.
22:01 I just wish there was a button there for the diff lock.
22:03 So the updated LDV T60 Max, what do we reckon?
22:09 Let's start off with the positives first.
22:10 So the engine, it has heaps of punch
22:12 and it really is up there with the class leaders
22:14 in terms of its rolling performance.
22:16 It is quite laggy off the line,
22:18 but once it's moving,
22:19 it actually feels really nice and punchy behind the wheel.
22:21 And it's made it to what is probably
22:23 the best gearbox in the business there,
22:24 the eight-speed ZF transmission.
22:26 I like the infotainment system.
22:27 It's a really high resolution screen.
22:29 The integration's nice.
22:30 It's easy to use.
22:31 But the downsides.
22:32 So the price, it is cheap,
22:34 but the problem is there are also other cheap Utes
22:38 in this segment.
22:39 And a lot of them are significantly better
22:40 in terms of what they offer.
22:42 And I'll start off with safety.
22:43 I think it is just unbelievable that this in 2021,
22:46 almost 2022, as a new model, doesn't have AEB.
22:50 The cheapest cars in Australia have AEB.
22:52 So how can you not fit it to something like this
22:54 that's gonna be on the road,
22:55 arguably more than a runabout in the city.
22:57 So that is pretty disappointing.
22:59 It is also lacking other creature comforts.
23:00 No reach adjustment on the steering,
23:02 no radar cruise control, no blind spot monitoring.
23:05 I really do think that they've missed the mark here
23:07 in terms of the offering and what you get with it.
23:09 And it really should be significantly cheaper than it is.
23:11 When you look at stuff like the SsangYong Musso,
23:13 the GWM, Canon,
23:14 they all come with a lot of the features
23:15 that this is missing, and they're about the same price.
23:17 So look, I am a little bit disappointed in it,
23:20 and I'm keen for your feedback.
23:21 Why are you buying this?
23:22 Are you getting a good price for it?
23:24 How's it being long-term if you have bought one?
