Zubiri confirms inclusion of West Philippine Sea in parliamentarians' forum

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri confirms on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, that the situation in the West Philippine Sea is among the issues that will be discuss in the 31st Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF31), which will be hosted by the Philippines, to be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City from Nov. 23 to 25, 2023.

00:00 First of all, good afternoon everyone. Tomorrow the Senate and the House of Representatives are going to open the 31st annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum or the ATPF.
00:12 We are proud to be hosting the ATPF in the Philippines once again, being the first time was in 1994.
00:21 So the ATPF is a multilateral parliamentary forum between 28 member countries in the Asia-Pacific region covering Southeast Asia, Oceania, North Asia, and the Americas.
00:32 So this is like, ito po yung panag-APEC ng parliamentarians.
00:37 Every year the ATPF member country is granted the privilege of hosting the annual meeting where our parliamentarians come together to discuss and form agreements over shared concerns and interests in the region, particularly in aim of pursuing and upholding peace, progress, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific.
00:59 The 31st annual meeting will be held at the PICC from November 23 to November 25, and we are expecting to welcome about 275 foreign delegates for the event.
01:11 Right now, there have been 19 countries that have confirmed attendance.
01:16 We are going to meet on political and security matters, economic and trade matters, regional cooperation, and we will have special meetings for women parliamentarians and young parliamentarians as well.
01:28 We are hopeful that over the next three days, we will be able to collectively form concrete steps forward as we all work towards shared prosperity in the region.
