00:00 on us and they made baskets and they drew fouls.
00:03 So give them credit that they definitely took this one and
00:08 they earned it and it was a close one and we will watch the film and improve our defense.
00:12 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:17 But anytime the ball's moving, we should move pretty tonight,
00:21 good things are gonna happen.
00:23 Still too many turnovers, that's an emphasis point and
00:27 we will continue to rep that and improve it and get better at it.
00:31 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:34 I would say I can't put my finger on an individual one, but
00:37 when you look at obviously Kevin Cross, he kinda, he got into a rhythm late,
00:43 just attacking us in transition, attacking us from the top of the key.
00:47 When he kinda got going, that was the turning point in my opinion.
00:50 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:57 These players have been outstanding, they've been outstanding all game.
01:00 I'm just, it's an honor to coach them.
01:03 I'm disappointed I did not do a better job as a head coach to help get us over
01:07 the hump tonight.
01:07 Better, we will improve.
01:10 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:17 No, we're gonna start winning these close games.
01:19 We're gonna start winning these close games.
01:23 Part of it is we're asking some players that don't have extensive experience to
01:28 play in key situations and they're learning and growing on the fly and
01:32 they're doing a good job.
01:33 And part of it is some key guys are out.
01:36 We have three key guys that are injured and
01:38 we hope to have them back in a reasonable time frame.
01:41 But in the meantime, this is learning and growth for some of the younger players.
01:45 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:51 Just the confidence coach has in me, so I'm shooting the ball,
01:55 still not shooting it as good as I want to, but I know shots gonna fall here soon.
01:59 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:07 Just growing together as a team and just learning how to execute, get stops and
02:11 put games away like you said.
02:12 We got a lot of close games.
02:13 We gotta learn how to not let the games get close and go ahead and
02:16 win the games by a line, put the teams away early.
02:19 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:23 We weren't good at all, but as a collective unit,
02:25 coach is gonna take the blame and say it's his fault.
02:28 We didn't do a good job.
02:30 I didn't do a good job on certain plays where we need to keep stops other guys.
02:34 We just didn't come together as a unit and we gotta do better.
02:37 I'll take that one.
02:38 That's only me being the captain.
02:39 I gotta challenge guys to step up to the plate and be better, so including myself.
02:43 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:49 San Diego State's a physical team.
02:50 They played in the national championship game last year.
02:53 They have, I can tell you this, we're gonna come out fighting.
02:56 We tried to schedule the best teams in the country that we could and
03:01 we did that deliberately and we're gonna come out battling and fighting.
03:05 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:12 Fardos was outstanding.
03:13 I thought he came into the game.
03:16 That situation, first of all, we stand with Fardos.
03:19 That should never, ever be said to anyone in a competition setting or
03:26 any other setting.
03:26 And I also obviously spoke to Fardos because from personal experience in
03:31 the NBA, typically good things do not happen when a player goes
03:36 into the stands to confront the situation.
03:41 And so I spoke to him about that, but the main message was,
03:44 I'm sorry that you had to experience that.
03:46 I'm sorry that happened.
03:48 Went directly to the tournament.
03:49 We asked that fan be banned completely from this venue and requested it.
03:54 What's the matter?
03:55 [BLANK_AUDIO]
03:58 I did not have information at that time.
04:00 I learned about it personally today.
04:03 I was not aware of it in game.
04:05 I was not aware of it after the game.
04:07 I learned about it today and myself and
04:09 Cal administration went to work on it right away.
04:11 [BLANK_AUDIO]
04:19 Fardos took everything in stride.
04:22 Fardos has shaken that off forward.
04:25 And that should never, under any circumstance,
04:30 happen in a situation where an athlete has to endure taunts and
04:35 racial type situations and comments in any case ever.
04:41 >> Yeah.
04:41 >> Just be there, support him.
04:45 I stand with Fardos because the things that were said to him shouldn't be said
04:49 to anyone.
04:49 Me personally, I grew up, my family, we don't condone that.
04:53 So just being no support for him during that time and just keeping him focused.
04:58 And I think he had a great game tonight with 23 and 14.
05:02 And that just shows who he is, how he can bounce back from adversity.
05:06 He's been doing it his whole life.
