The new Kansas Jayhawks offensive line coach Daryl Agpalsa speaks with the media during Spring Football practice.

00:00Does that make it mean more when he calls you about this opportunity?
00:30For me, being a coach for him on his staff, it's really about being personal with the family.
00:34Is he the same guy to you? Same sort of personality and everything?
00:37Honestly, you know what's kind of funny? He hasn't changed one bit.
00:40He is the same man. And I think that's what makes him unique and special because, you know, sometimes you see people go through this profession and rise the way he has and they change, right?
00:49He's the same man through and through and that's awesome for me. Because that makes it exciting to come back.
00:55If you had to choose a couple of characteristics to hang your hat on, what do you want your offensive line to play like?
01:00Yeah, I want them to be tough. I want them to be physical and I want them to be smart.
01:04You know, the offensive line in general, to me, it's not a game of perfect.
01:11But to play with great effort, to play with physicality, I think that's things we're going to really work to hang our hat on.
01:17And when you put on the tape, I actually asked him that question, what people want to see.
01:21It's the same things I'm telling you right now. They want to be relentless and physical and look like they're coached and they know where they're going and executing at a high level.
01:28So that's fun because they're eager to get to work and I can't wait to get to work with them this spring.
01:33You mentioned all the similarities to the offense that there was back then.
01:37Are there any differences that you've seen so far, more complexities that weren't there previously?
01:43Yeah, I will say that. Like everything, an offense will evolve. It evolved when we went from Whitewater to Buffalo.
01:49It has since evolved from Buffalo to Kansas and evolution and growth is always positive.
01:55They've done a lot of great things over the course of the last two years to really transcend this program to push to where they want to be year in, year out.
02:06And I think as we watch these tapes, the one thing I'm excited about is making sure the core of what we've done over the last two years that have made us great, we continue to do those things at a high level.
02:18You mentioned being excited about the guys, but have any individuals stood out to you? Maybe a Calvin Clements, Bryce Cable, names that keep going back.
02:25Yeah, you know, honestly, I think right now it'd be unfair to just say who, just not being here long enough.
02:33But I think as we get through spring ball and I can really get my hands around them and kind of see this person, this person, this person in pads and stuff, I think I'll give you a better answer.
02:45So that first spring meeting, what's the first thing on your mind or what's the first thing you want to address?
02:50I think the most important thing I want to make sure they understand is they can trust me.
02:55You know, the most important thing I want to do as a teacher and a coach in this with this unit is to build an ultimate level of trust and build relationships with them.
03:04Because if you build a great relationship with these young men, you have the ability to push them, knowing that you care about them at the end of the day.
03:12And that's always been something we've prided ourselves on is building real true relationships so we can push them as hard as we can.
03:18We're going to be very demanding. We're not going to be demeaning. And that way we can get the very best out of them each and every day.
03:23So from day one, when we talk, we're going to talk about who we want to be when we kick the ball off in September.
03:28And the second thing we're going to talk about is building a level of trust so I can coach them and get the very best out of them in that room.
03:35It's something that Lance and others have talked about, making the jump from a Mac school to a Big 12 program like Kansas is the difference in resources that Utah has.
03:42Coming from Northern Illinois to here, is there anything that you've noticed already?
03:45A lot of people.
03:46I know there's construction going on.
03:47Yeah, a lot of people. A lot of people. A lot of manpower.
03:50Which is fantastic, you know, and we're able to do more, obviously, because of that.
03:56But at the core of it all, just like Lance, I'm a Division III player. I got my grassroots as Division III football, so I'm really into wearing a lot of different hats.
04:05I have to do a good job of delegating, I guess, in a perfect world, right?
04:09Not being a part of it, but it's been fantastic because every person that has walked technically through my office right now, they want to help.
04:16They want something to do and they want to help make Jayhawk football great.
04:19And that's exciting for me.
04:21Thanks.
04:22Thank you.
04:23Thank you, guys.
