Examining reasons to be thankful for the 2023 Detroit Lions
Transcript
00:00 John, I'm on the mindset that there are a plethora of reasons right now to be thankful regarding the Lions.
00:05 What are those specifically for you at this point?
00:07 Yeah, Vito, exactly.
00:09 Now's the time to take a little bit of a moment to be reflective about why we should be grateful about the 2023 Lions.
00:15 Look, Vito, it's a winning football team that has an opportunity as the weeks are coming here as we near the end of the season to be a division winner, to host a playoff game, to potentially be the number one seed.
00:28 Vito, this is a football team now that has created a lot of good memories, a team that can win in a lot of different ways when you look at it.
00:35 A team that can win close games, that earlier in the year also had a stretch of games where they were blowing out their opponents.
00:41 And I think it's a football team that has committed to playing all 60 minutes and really trying to represent the city, being gritty, being hard-nosed, being a football team that the city and the fan base can respect.
00:53 You're hearing it.
00:54 Roger Goodell was in town for the Bears game, and he's indicating that television networks want to feature the Lions more, maybe a couple opportunities to be flexed into another primetime game.
01:06 So you look at this Detroit Lions team and, you know, they've been trying to shed the label of being one of the defunct football programs, organizations in the National Football League, and they've started to do that.
01:18 When you're a winning football team, you do instill a lot of confidence in the fan base.
01:24 You instill confidence in potentially raising hope that maybe the biggest prize available in the sport is possible.
01:31 So I think that when you look at this football team, the memories that they've created over the past year have been spectacular.
01:39 And you look at really the ultimate reason to be grateful.
01:42 They have a head coach that embodies everything that you would want. Entertaining, fun.
01:48 He even had a light moment with myself when I showed up a little bit late to a media session.
01:53 So he's got the great, bolsterous personality.
01:56 He definitely is really one of the most direct and honest head coaches.
02:00 And I think that Dan Campbell, to me, because I grew up watching Bill Parcells, gives you that reminder that, hey, if there's a question he doesn't exactly want to answer, he finds an avenue to spin it positive and give an answer that you can't.
02:12 You can work with. I think that Dan Campbell relates to his players and the players really respect him and want to play for him.
02:19 So I think that there's a lot of reasons to be grateful from the top down, from the front office to the head coach to the roster.
02:27 I think that there's a lot of fun things that we should be grateful for at this time of the year with the Detroit Lions.
02:33 And Vito, this is only maybe the beginning.
02:35 This could be the start of a regime that can maybe turn the corner and be a perennial winning football team.
02:41 Could you imagine, Vito, after the last decade that we've had following this team, to move forward in a new direction, to be a team that wins every year?
02:49 Man, it's something to behold and something we should be grateful for.
