00:00 To say the past 24 hours in Aggieland have been wild is an understatement.
00:05 Majority of the world went to bed Saturday night thinking that Mark Stoops was the man
00:09 to take over this Aggies football team.
00:11 However, that plan embarrassingly fell apart as the Aggies Board of Regents pulled the
00:16 plug on Stoops thanks to backlash from the fan base.
00:20 There is no denying that this was not the best look for the program as they not only
00:24 promised a national search for a big name, but also based on what went down with Coach
00:30 Stoops, it appeared the Aggies fired Fischer without knowing who they were hiring next.
00:35 However, about 18 hours later, the Aggies got their man in Duke Blue Devil head coach
00:41 Mike Elko.
00:42 While it is not the flashiest hire, it is the right hire.
00:46 Not only did Elko know the program well and not only did he prove that he possessed what
00:50 it takes to lead a program with Duke over the last two years, but the players love him,
00:56 which should help minimize the losses to the NCAA transfer portal.
01:01 But there was one thing that athletic director Ross Bjork said that was notable.
01:06 The job in Aggieland isn't for everybody and that is where Elko fits like a glove.
01:12 Bjork commented, "Do you have the chops to deal with this job?
01:15 It's not for everybody.
01:16 This is not an 8-4 job.
01:19 Because of the decision we made on Fischer, but also because of the resources and expectations.
01:24 Does somebody have the wherewithal to deal with that, the weight of the job and the magnitude,
01:29 and not get phased and rattled, not panic?
01:32 And if something doesn't go right, they fix what they need to fix."
01:36 The new Aggies coach possesses each and every one of those attributes.
01:40 He's aware of the Aggie way of life.
01:43 He knows the ins and outs of the program.
01:45 He knows what makes the fan base tick and he knows what it takes to be successful in
01:50 Aggieland.
01:51 While it was not the biggest name in college football, it was both the safe and the right
01:57 hire and that is all that matters.
01:59 From all Aggies, I'm Alexandra Cox.
