00:00 Quarterback Ben Finley's announcement today that he intends to enter the transfer portal
00:07 is no surprise at all.
00:09 It looks like he was probably no better than second, maybe likely the third string quarterback
00:15 exiting the season.
00:16 And he wants a chance to play.
00:19 Unlike other positions where players come in and out of the lineup throughout games,
00:24 quarterback is sort of a one guy starts and everybody else hits and waits.
00:27 He's transferred once already to Cal from North Carolina State.
00:32 Started two games this year, but it doesn't appear that he has much of a future here.
00:36 So Ben has decided as a graduate now that he wants to play his final two years elsewhere
00:40 and you can't blame him.
00:42 What it does for Cal though, handling its bowl game is it leaves the Bears in a little
00:47 bit of a precarious situation, assuming that Finley will not be with the team having announced
00:52 this.
00:53 And I don't know that to be a fact, but I'm assuming that's the case.
00:56 Sam Jackson's been hurt for about a month and a half.
01:00 We don't even know if he's going to be available by the time the Bears play in their bowl game.
01:04 And so then who becomes the number two guy available after Fernando Mendoza, if something
01:10 were to happen to him.
01:11 Now Cal has nobody else who's ever taken a snap as a college quarterback in the program.
01:16 So they've been a little bit of a bind.
01:18 Now that's obviously the worst case scenario.
01:21 Losing Finley in the big picture, probably not going to matter an awful lot because he
01:26 doesn't figure in their future really.
01:29 And so we wish him luck and we'll see where he ends up.
01:32 Bye-bye.
