Starmer accuses Sunak of ‘losing his marbles’

  • last year
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer accused Rishi Sunak of “losing his marbles” in a Greek artifact jibe during Prime Minister’s Questions. Starmer said: "Never mind the British Museum - it's the prime minister who has obviously lost his marbles".

Rishi Sunak came under fire for cancelling a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in London yesterday, after he spoke out about the marbles – known as the Parthenon Sculptures – which he wants returned to Athens from the British Museum.

00:00 never mind the British Museum, it's the Prime Minister who has obviously lost his marbles.
00:06 The Greek Prime Minister came to London to meet him, a fellow NATO member, an economic
00:14 ally, one of our most important partners in tackling illegal immigration. But instead
00:21 of using that meeting to discuss those serious issues, he tried to humiliate him and cancelled
00:28 the last minute. Why such small politics, Prime Minister?
00:33 Of course we're always happy to discuss important topics of substance with our allies,
00:40 like tackling illegal migration or indeed strengthening our security. But when it was
00:45 clear that the purpose of a meeting was not to discuss substantive issues for the future,
00:51 but rather to grandstand and relitigate issues of the past, it wasn't appropriate. But
00:57 furthermore, when specific commitments and assurances on that topic were made to this
01:05 country and then were broken, it may seem alien to him, but my view is that when people
01:10 make commitments, they should keep them.
