00:00 Christmas is fast approaching and to get into the festive mood we are taking a look at what
00:07 is going on across the city this festive period.
00:10 If you enjoy a bit of ice skating of course the Life Science Centre ice rink will be open
00:15 until the beginning of January.
00:17 So whether you're an expert skater or you may need to hold on to the side, the ice rink
00:21 is the perfect thing to do to get into the festive spirit.
00:25 Of course this year Winter Wonderland in Newcastle is back but it's got a new home outside of
00:30 the Utilda Arena.
00:32 With rides, food stalls and the Alpine Bavarian Lounge Bar there is something for everyone.
00:37 Santa will also be making an appearance in his grotto right up until Christmas Eve.
00:42 The Winter Wonderland is open from the 15th of December until the 7th of January.
00:47 A bit further into the city centre there is the Christmas Market which are always popular.
00:52 From food to crafts to handmade gifts the markets have a lot going on and we spoke to
00:56 a few stall holders this year.
00:59 So I think as soon as you see the lights go up and the lovely decorations here and it
01:03 kind of they do get you in that mindset and you know who doesn't want a nice kind of browse
01:09 when it gets dark early nights, pick up a nice hot chocolate or something like that.
01:14 Why not?
01:16 People don't mind me wishing them a Merry Christmas and I hope I can.
01:21 In fact many people have said oh you're the first person to wish me a Merry Christmas
01:24 so it's really nice.
01:25 I think you know smelling mulled wine and the hot chocolate and you know there's lots
01:31 of things, lots of different presents and things so yeah just lots of inspiration for
01:34 Christmas.
01:35 Of course any won't have a huge range of events taking place in Newcastle including their
01:40 Search for Santa and the 24 Doors of Christmas which is a giant advent calendar of the city.
01:46 So Search for Santa is another again free event where families can do a little trail
01:51 across the city centre.
01:53 It's great for the kids to get involved and they also get to meet Santa at the end and
01:58 they get a little goodie bag as well which is really nice and it's just a nice festive
02:01 activity for families to do over Christmas because a lot of the time things are quite
02:06 expensive as well so I think it's really great that we're given the opportunity for families
02:10 to do something like this during the festive period but otherwise they might not be able
02:14 to.
02:15 We've got some older new faces taking part in 24 Doors this year.
02:19 We've got a load of different things going on so you could go see some historical sites,
02:23 you can also do some really nice experiential workshops as well.
02:27 We've got places like Lit and Phil taking part and also we have the HMRC building which
02:32 is a really interesting one taking place this year where you can go and take a hard hat
02:36 tour of the building site and also get a chance to see the view of what it's going to look
02:40 like from up in one of the storeys which is really nice.
02:45 There is also of course plenty of pantomimes taking place across the city if you love the
02:49 theatre starring some panto favourites and some celebrities.
02:54 So whether you are a Scrooge or a festive elf there's plenty of things to do this Christmas
02:59 to keep you entertained until Santa arrives.
