Transcript
00:00 Following the alleged increase in the number of cases of influenza-like illness in the country,
00:04 the Department of Health issued some guidelines to avoid the disease and it did not spread.
00:10 Mark Petalco is now in the report.
00:12 In the latest data from the Department of Health,
00:17 the number of cases of influenza-like illness in the country increased by 51%.
00:22 As of November 11, the alleged ILI was more than 182,000, higher than the alleged 121,000 in the same period last year.
00:33 According to Dr. Benito Atienza, Vice President III of the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations,
00:40 the spread of influenza is due to the changing times when people are in the public places.
00:47 Children are entering the house without wearing a mask, some are sitting there, some are crawling.
00:54 It is easy to get infected.
00:56 Unlike before, during the pandemic, we were all at home, wearing masks when going out.
01:02 That is one of the reasons why the incidence of viral infection like the flu is increasing.
01:09 ILI or trancaso is a contagious disease, a common influenza virus that attacks the breathing.
01:16 Children, adults, pregnant women and people with weak immune systems are more likely to get infected.
01:22 According to Atienza, we should be more careful, especially if the symptoms of influenza are the same as COVID-19,
01:28 such as high fever, headache, cough, cough, cough, and swollen throat.
01:35 To avoid influenza, use a DOH, isolate if you have a disease,
01:39 wash your hands and ensure good ventilation.
01:43 An expert added that cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, wear a face mask,
01:49 and especially, get the vaccines against the flu.
01:53 Let us remember that the flu vaccine is given annually.
01:57 You should not wait for the vaccine to be given because the other vaccines are given in October and November.
02:03 The effectiveness of the vaccine that was given in January is until February next year.
02:12 In the face of the increasing cases of respiratory illness in children in Northern China,
02:16 the DOH again assured that the public should not be concerned.
02:20 According to Health Secretary Ted Herbosa, the increase in cases is due to the expansion of COVID-19 restrictions
02:26 and the beginning of a cold season.
02:28 He assured that the situation is being monitored.
02:32 Now we're monitoring the rise of respiratory illnesses in China.
02:37 They've given their reports to the WHO, the International Health Regulations.
02:43 It's not new viruses, it's the common diseases.
02:47 Our hospitals are now ready.
02:48 After our experience with COVID-19, of course, we'll be able to feel as soon as there are a rise of cases going to our emergency department.
