Brock Purdy For NFL MVP?
Transcript
00:00 party really might go from Mr. Irrelevant to Mr. Most Valuable?
00:05 He might.
00:06 I don't know if he deserves it, but he probably is going to get it.
00:09 At the end of the day, he beat Dallas and Philly, the two other teams in the NFC, badly.
00:15 Like they both got blown out.
00:16 But to me, I don't even think he's the most valuable player on that team.
00:19 To me, it's definitely Christian McCaffrey.
00:21 Even if you look at the game against Philly, their first two drives, they had negative
00:24 six yards.
00:25 That's because they try to put the ball in Brock's hands and say, "All right, lead us
00:29 down the field," and they got nothing.
00:31 As soon as they started giving the ball to Christian McCaffrey, that's when our offense
00:35 really started to jump start.
00:37 He's got the stats.
00:38 They've got the wins.
00:40 He's probably going to get it.
00:41 And he looks great.
00:42 Let's not try to take anything away from him.
00:45 He's leading in all these statistical categories as a passer.
00:47 And the biggest critique is the talent around him.
00:50 But at one point, Patrick Holmes had Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey.
00:55 Steve Young and Joe Montana had the likes of Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Ricky Waters,
01:02 et cetera.
01:03 Right?
01:04 Everybody who is in the mix and competing at that level has talent around them.
01:07 I agree.
01:08 I guess maybe it's just the look of it.
01:10 Even, again, going back to that Philly game, he had over 300 yards passing.
01:14 But if you watch the game, he had three touchdowns that were over 50 yards, and he didn't do
01:19 anything.
01:20 I let him throw a three-yard pass, and Debo took two of them to the house for 50 yards.
01:23 So it's just like, you look at the talent around him, and you could say, all right,
01:27 Sam Payton has the best roster in the league, and a lot of that is on their offensive side.
01:31 And then you look at the two games when they lost, when they didn't have one of their weapons,
01:34 and they didn't have an offensive lineman, he looked mediocre.
01:37 So it's like, yeah, when everything's great, you look like you're an MVP type of talent.
01:41 But when it's not, and you, as somebody who praises Mahomes all the time, recognize that
01:46 Mahomes' talent, regardless of who's on the field with him, it's just Mahomes' talent.
01:50 That's why he's an MVP candidate every year.
01:53 He's had great circumstances, as I just mentioned, the talent around him, Andy Reid as his coach.
01:58 The Eagles had a lot tougher time with the 49ers with Brock Purdy behind center than
