00:00 Let's finish this off, I'm starving.
00:04 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most gruesome and gut-wrenching
00:10 scenes in 'Invincible'.
00:12 A spoiler alert is in effect.
00:18 Number 20.
00:19 Titan vs. Henchman
00:21 That actually hurts.
00:23 He's a devoted father, and maybe even a good guy deep down, but he can also absolutely
00:28 destroy a group of opponents when he needs to.
00:32 While working for Machine Head, Titan takes on a warehouse full of guys employed by a
00:37 rival crime boss, Mr. Liu.
00:45 They're armed to the teeth and throw everything they've got at this bulletproof enforcer,
00:50 but it doesn't faze him.
00:54 He wipes out the entire group without even bringing any weapons of his own.
00:59 Instead, he gets creative, crushing one man with a forklift and another with some shelves,
01:05 and tinning their own weapons against them.
01:07 It's super bloody and super fun to watch.
01:17 Number 19.
01:18 White House Battle
01:19 It's about time.
01:21 The show's first major action sequence is also probably the most optimistic, capturing
01:27 the fun of an old-school Saturday morning cartoon.
01:30 That's not to say the sequence doesn't pack a powerful punch.
01:34 The attack catches us off guard as two Secret Service agents make casual small talk, only
01:40 to be interrupted by the Mauler twins.
01:45 The White House is heavily armed, showing that this sort of thing is commonplace, but
01:50 the Maulers have come well-equipped.
01:53 Steve gets in one good shot before one half of the villainous pair prepares to smash him.
01:59 Fortunately, the Guardians of the Globe show up just in time, receiving additional backup
02:04 from Omni-Man.
02:14 Showcasing their individual powers, the day is saved, but another enemy lurks in the Guardians'
02:20 midst.
02:33 Number 18.
02:34 Don't Mess With Monster Girl
02:36 Who you calling ugly?
02:40 It's highly satisfying seeing Rex Float get his ass kicked.
02:49 The fact that a little girl rips him apart only makes the karma more satisfying.
02:54 Technically, Monster Girl isn't a girl.
02:57 She's a 24-year-old woman who de-ages every time that she transforms into a monster.
03:06 That said, the "monster" part of her name is all too accurate, which Rex learns the
03:12 hard way.
03:13 Even after Monster Girl demonstrates her powers, Rex thinks with everything other than his
03:18 head.
03:23 It isn't until Invincible intervenes that Monster Girl and Rex decide to make nice.
03:28 Invincible might not be a satire, but when it wants to be, it can be one of the funniest
03:33 superhero shows while also being among the most violent.
03:44 Number 17.
03:46 Rick Sheridan Becomes a Cyborg
03:48 You look kinda dead.
03:56 There are some things they don't teach you in college.
03:58 Being a good boyfriend and best friend are two of them.
04:02 Mark fails on both fronts during a university visit, getting dumped by Amber, and ignoring
04:08 William's pleas when Rick seemingly lands in trouble.
04:15 William was right to worry, as D.A.
04:18 Sinclair has subjected Rick and several others to his demented cyborg experiment.
04:24 Before William can meet the same fate, Mark is thrown through a wall.
04:33 Mark may be invincible, but it's William who gets through to Rick.
04:38 Fighting his own programming, Rick turns on the other cyborgs, while Mark and William
04:42 give Sinclair his comeuppance.
04:45 It's a classic Frankenstein story that builds in the villain's defeat, but not the happiest
04:51 ending for Rick.
04:52 Number 16.
04:54 Amber Dumps Mark
04:55 We need to talk.
04:57 As a superhero, Invincible has a lot of responsibilities.
05:02 Sometimes that means he can't be there for the people he cares about.
05:06 It's understandable that Amber gets annoyed when Mark is constantly late, or doesn't
05:11 show up for any of their dates at all.
05:18 However, she's not very forgiving when Mark reveals the truth.
05:24 Instead, she gets angry that he didn't tell her sooner.
05:28 This seems a little harsh.
05:32 Can we really blame Mark for being protective of his secret identity?
05:39 After all, they're still in high school, and they've only been dating a few months.
05:44 Mark has been through a lot during that time, but the way Amber rips his heart out is one
05:49 of the most brutal punishments he's taken so far.
05:57 Number 15.
05:59 Viltrumites Attack Alan
06:00 This missive, this machination.
06:03 This lovable alien was genetically engineered and trained to stand up to Viltrumites.
06:09 However, the interplanetary conquerors are so powerful, even Alan is no match for them.
06:23 When three of them attack, demanding information about Nolan and Mark, Alan has no chance against
06:29 them.
06:30 Even though he knows they're probably going to kill him, he maintains his snarky attitude
06:34 and refuses to tell them anything.
06:41 They beat him savagely as his girlfriend Talia looks on in horror, knocking out his eye and
06:47 even tearing off his arm.
06:49 Amazingly, Alan survives the encounter, but just barely.
06:59 Number 14.
07:01 Omni-Man Kills The Pilot
07:02 Where I really came from.
07:04 It's hard to overstate how cruel and heartless Omni-Man can be.
07:09 Shortly after he revealed the truth about his origins to Mark, Cecil sends fighter jets
07:14 to attempt to take him down.
07:20 Nolan destroys one of the planes, but Mark acts quickly and saves the pilot, at least
07:26 for a few seconds.
07:31 Nolan then murders the man in a particularly gruesome way, just to make a point about how
07:37 meaningless human lives are.
07:39 Mark is naturally horrified.
07:42 Even after all the violence we've seen Omni-Man commit up until this point, the moment is
07:47 still shocking.
07:48 It sets the scene for the even more ruthless fight coming up.
07:56 Number 13.
07:57 Robots' True Form and Death
08:00 We need to talk.
08:01 One of the show's more mysterious characters, Robots' backstory and motivation are slowly
08:07 fleshed out, especially in the season's penultimate episode.
08:15 The Maulers are surprised and disgusted to find that Robots is controlled by the deformed
08:21 Rudy Connors.
08:22 They create a clone of Rexplode for Rudy, and insert a copy of Rudy's mind into the
08:27 new body.
08:37 The experiment takes everything out of the original Rudy, however, leaving him just enough
08:41 strength to say goodbye before his clone puts him out of his misery.
08:46 Rudy takes comfort in knowing his successor can pursue a relationship with Monster Girl
08:51 and experience life outside the pod.
09:04 It's a bittersweet farewell that gives new Rudy a fresh start.
09:13 What he'll do with it is where things could get messy.
09:23 Number 12.
09:24 Omni-Man Murders GDA Soldiers
09:26 We need to talk.
09:28 You'd think by now Cecil would know that a few people with guns will have no effect
09:33 on Omni-Man, even if they can teleport.
09:36 Once Nolan's secret is revealed, Donald and Cecil get Debbie to safety, and Nolan comes
09:42 home to an empty house.
09:44 At least it looks empty.
09:45 Soon, Cecil's soldiers begin teleporting in to attack Nolan.
09:50 With his enhanced perception, he's able to anticipate their moves and dispatch them
09:55 as quickly as they appear in an especially gory scene.
09:59 Moments later, Omni-Man discovers that Donald has been spying on him from across the street,
10:05 and Cecil's loyal right-hand man immediately becomes his next victim.
10:09 Donald bravely sacrifices himself to try and slow down Nolan.
10:14 Which of course, doesn't work.
10:21 Number 11.
10:22 Thedas Turns Off Alan's Life Support
10:25 This missive, this machination.
10:28 This one came as a major shock to fans of the comic.
10:32 In the source material, Thedas and Alan were longtime allies, fighting side by side in
10:37 the war against Viltrum.
10:40 That's why this scene in the show is such a gut punch.
10:50 After Alan is nearly killed by a Viltrumite attack, Thedas visits him in the hospital.
10:55 He sends Talia away, promising her he'll watch over Alan.
11:01 But instead of standing watch, he powers down the machine keeping Alan alive.
11:05 It's an astonishing betrayal that left the audience reeling.
11:10 However, many fans are sure this isn't the last they've seen of Alan the Alien.
11:18 Number 10.
11:19 Multiple Angstrom Levies Explode
11:21 A lesson for your next life.
11:24 This one starts off with good intentions.
11:27 Levy just wants to combine all the knowledge of his alternate selves into one mind, so
11:32 he can defeat the evil versions of Invincible and save the world.
11:38 Unfortunately, he makes the mistake of getting help from the Maulers.
11:44 And of course, the Invincible we know shows up to stop them.
11:48 When Levy interrupts the process himself, the results are devastating.
11:53 The machine explodes and hundreds of other Levies - not to mention quite a few Maulers
11:58 - are killed.
12:03 The original Levy survives, only to become a supervillain.
12:07 We feel bad for the guy, but ultimately, he should have known better than to attempt this
12:12 incredibly dangerous experiment.
12:21 Number 9.
12:22 Eve vs. Her Siblings - Invincible, Atom Eve
12:26 In this special episode, we learn that Eve was engineered in a government lab.
12:31 Since she was born, every attempt to recreate her special powers has failed, resulting in
12:37 a family of horribly mutated children.
12:48 When they're released from their tubes and attack, the outcome is as sad as it is sickening.
12:53 The kids' unstable bodies disintegrate as they fight, yet they're driven by jealousy
12:58 and rage to defeat Eve.
13:04 The pitiable crew throws everything they've got at her, endangering dozens of innocent
13:09 people in the process.
13:10 But in the end, Eve can only feel sorry for her unfortunate siblings.
13:20 Number 8.
13:21 The Exorcism of Damien Darkblood - Neil Armstrong, eat your heart out
13:32 A bit like a cross between Hellboy, John Constantine and Rorschach, Damien Darkblood is a demon
13:39 who solves crimes to keep himself out of the Bad Place.
13:43 After the Guardians of the Globe meet their demise, Darkblood immediately becomes suspicious
13:48 of the lone survivor, Omni-Man.
13:56 Darkblood isn't the only one, but Cecil feels it would be reckless to pursue Nolan without
14:01 more information first.
14:03 So, when Darkblood gets just a little too involved in the case, Cecil doesn't hesitate
14:08 to remove the demon from the picture.
14:13 Although Darkblood accepts his fate, it's still rough watching chains rise up and pull
14:19 him back down into the underworld.
14:28 Whether or not this is the last we see of him, Darkblood was smart enough to leave his
14:32 notepad in a safe place.
14:35 Number 7.
14:36 Alternate Universe Mark Paralyzes Eve - A Lesson for Your Next Life
14:41 Season 2 opens with a disturbing look at what would happen if Mark teamed up with Omni-Man
14:47 to take over Earth.
14:49 In this alternate dimension, that's exactly what happened, with the other superheroes
14:53 fighting back every step of the way.
15:01 Atom Eve is determined to stop Invincible, even though she's outmatched.
15:06 But this sadistic version of Mark can't just kill her quickly.
15:10 Instead, he paralyzes her, promising that he'll make sure she's taken care of.
15:18 You can tell from her reaction that this is worse than a death sentence.
15:22 It's terrifying to think about how many times Eve must have met the same fate in other universes.
15:30 Number 6.
15:35 Father-Son Team Up - It's Been A While
15:38 We finally get to see what happens when Viltrumites face off against other Viltrumites without
15:43 holding back.
15:44 Nolan has just discovered what empathy feels like, leading to an emotional breakdown that
15:49 fuels his rage.
16:00 Mark on the other hand is just getting comfortable with using his full power.
16:04 The two of them team up to defend Thraxer against Viltrumite soldiers who are determined
16:09 to kill them.
16:10 It's one of the most vicious battles in the series so far, packed with savage hits
16:16 and bone-breaking punches.
16:25 The action happens so fast that it starts to resemble the panels of a comic book in
16:30 a pretty cool homage to its source material.
16:36 Number 5.
16:37 Immortal Returns - We Need To Talk
16:42 As Nolan seeks out Mark, Cecil throws every obstacle in his arsenal at Omni-Man, only
16:48 mildly inconveniencing him at most.
16:51 Cecil breaks out the big guns with a kaiju, which still stands little chance against Omni-Man,
16:57 especially once Invincible joins the fight.
17:08 Invincible must finish the monster alone when a revived Immortal shows up for a rematch
17:13 with Omni-Man.
17:15 Having already lost to Omni-Man once with backup, it's clear that Immortal can't
17:20 win this one-on-one battle.
17:23 He's too blinded by hate and betrayal to think about anything but crushing Omni-Man
17:32 though.
17:33 The two engage in a Dragon Ball-esque showdown that ends in a gut punch.
17:38 Emphasis on both the gut and the punch.
17:42 In disbelief, Mark sees his father for what he truly is.
17:46 Number 4.
17:47 Omni-Man Destroys Flaxen's - Here Goes Nothing
17:51 After clashing with Invincible and the Teen Team multiple times, the Flaxen's perfect
17:56 their world domination strategy.
17:58 This is where Omni-Man steps in, sending the extra-dimensional aliens back where they came
18:03 from.
18:07 Although humanity assumes Omni-Man is their savior, they fail to realize two things.
18:13 Back in the Flaxen's homeworld, Omni-Man doesn't resolve the issue as peacefully
18:17 as possible.
18:23 He pushes their world to the brink of absolute destruction over an extended period, going
18:29 much further than he needs to.
18:31 Secondly, Omni-Man didn't stop the Flaxen's to defend Earth.
18:41 He did it so there would be something left for his own people to conquer.
18:44 Upon returning home, Omni-Man looks less like somebody who's destroyed entire cities,
18:50 and more like somebody who had a rigorous workout.
18:56 Number 3.
18:57 Battle at Machine Head's Tower - That Actually Hurts
19:01 When Invincible decides to help Titan, the two confront Machine Head at his tower.
19:06 The mechanical villain knew that they were coming, however, and thus hired some muscle.
19:17 The most formidable bodyguard is Thok, the battle beast, who nearly destroys Invincible
19:23 before the new guardians show up.
19:31 One might assume that this is where the tide begins to turn.
19:34 On the contrary, this is where things become increasingly dire, with Monster Girl, Black
19:40 Samson and Invincible left in the most critical conditions.
19:44 The main reason they survive is because Thok grows bored and leaves while Machine Head's
19:49 right-hand man turns on him.
19:51 The biggest blow of all is the revelation that Mark was just a pawn in Titan's plan
19:57 to take his boss's place.
20:03 Number 2.
20:04 Guardians of the Globe Fall - It's About Time
20:08 The first episode mostly plays out like your typical teenager-gets-superpowers story.
20:13 The audience can sense something darker underneath the surface, though, especially when it comes
20:18 to Nolan.
20:23 Omni-Man shows his true colours in the final scene, where he lures the Guardians to their
20:28 headquarters.
20:36 The Guardians are all well-defined heroes, leading us to believe that they'll be mainstays
20:40 of the show.
20:42 This makes it all the more jaw-dropping when Omni-Man takes out all of them in a surprise
20:46 ambush.
20:53 Some go down more easily than others, but in a matter of minutes, Omni-Man is the last
20:58 one breathing.
20:59 The animation oozes with graphic detail, leaving the audience intimidated yet eager to watch
21:05 the next episode.
21:27 The moment that the whole season had been building
21:41 up towards, Nolan tells Mark why he's really on Earth.
21:45 When Mark refuses to join him, Nolan attempts to beat his son into submission.
21:50 He destroys part of Chicago, and takes numerous innocent lives just to get his argument across.
21:57 As disturbing as this imagery is, hearing Nolan call Debbie a "pet" and imply that
22:08 Mark is replaceable, stings just as much.
22:19 Even as Nolan turns his face into tomato soup, Mark would rather die by his father's fist
22:25 than turn his back on Earth.
22:28 Nolan is ready to finish Mark before recalling a memory from his childhood.
22:32 Pulling back, Omni-Man abandons his son and Earth, suggesting there may be some humanity
22:38 in the Viltrumite.
22:43 The damage is done, however.
22:45 Which brutal moment was the hardest for you to watch?
22:48 Let us know in those comments below.
23:04 Thanks for watching.
