00:00 - While prepping for the Q&A, there was a really fun question that came in from
00:06 Jeff here. "Which five former or current Hornets players would you like to have at
00:10 your birthday dinner?" These type of questions are always fun and always get
00:13 your brain thinking. So I decided on this one, I just kind of record a little bit of
00:18 a quick video. So let's go on here. These are the five I decided I would have,
00:23 and I'm just going to give you a little bit of spiel about both. These are not the
00:26 five best Hornets of all time. These have all got very different personal reasons
00:30 as why I would love to have these guys over at a birthday dinner. So firstly,
00:35 let's start with Kemba Walker, franchise leader, icon, one of the most beloved
00:41 people in Charlotte basketball history and in the wider NBA to that point.
00:48 It would be great to hear some of Kemba's stories about some of the, you know,
00:52 the playoff games that they had, hearing about his journey, the national
00:56 championship run at UConn. You know, he was in Charlotte for a long time.
01:00 He came into contact with a lot of people, had some historic high-scoring games.
01:03 I think that'd be hard to leave Kemba Walker off any birthday dinner list if you
01:07 follow the Charlotte Hornets. Next up, Adam Morrison. This is you're probably
01:10 scratching your head at this one. For those who know, I essentially started
01:15 following the Charlotte Bobcats at the time because of Adam Morrison.
01:19 It was his jersey that I bought while visiting my grandma in the US.
01:23 It was between that and LeBron James' jersey. I bought the one that I'd never
01:27 heard of. Little did I know Adam Morrison was quite such a cult figure at the time.
01:31 I think I was probably 14, 13 years old at the time. But look, I'd just be interested.
01:38 He is an interesting character, right? His struggle to transition to the NBA,
01:42 some Larry Brown stories, which I'm sure would be interesting,
01:46 his run at Gonzaga, and just generally, like, he's a unique character.
01:50 So Adam Morrison, just that I can tell my funny story. Steven Jackson.
01:57 Only with Charlotte for a really short period of time. Obviously,
01:59 hosting all the Smoke podcasts, one that I don't actually listen to.
02:03 But you need a wild person at a party, right? And Steven Jackson is exactly that.
02:08 He will...I mean, him and Adam Morrison might get into a fight at the birthday
02:11 party, I think. He'll certainly have some stories. He'll speak his mind.
02:16 He won't give the media answer. And I think you sometimes like that frankness.
02:20 And, you know, there was rumors that he got into it at times during his time
02:23 in Charlotte before he got traded, after they traded Gerald Wallace.
02:27 And I think that would be an interesting time to hear a little bit about.
02:30 So Captain Jack, just because he is an absolute character,
02:35 would definitely bring some life to the party. Certainly wouldn't be dull.
02:39 Bismarck Bayumba. Obviously, two times round he came in Charlotte.
02:43 Just one of, again, all-round best people in the NBA, just as people.
02:48 You know, has done loads of stuff around development back in Africa,
02:52 back in his home country as well. And is doing a lot off the court.
02:56 And I think that's really interesting. You know, he speaks five, six languages.
03:00 He's well-travelled. He's more than just a basketball player.
03:04 And I think, you know, having someone with that level of interest off the court,
03:09 views on basketball around the world would be fascinating to hear.
03:14 And then finally, Del Curry. Obviously, maybe not one of the best players
03:18 in Charlotte Hornets history, but there is probably nobody who has been around
03:22 this franchise more from start to finish to now than Del Curry.
03:26 He has seen every, pretty much every iteration of this team,
03:30 this coach's front office. There is so much that he will know
03:34 that he is never going to say on a broadcast.
03:36 And if I can get a few drinks down him at a party cocktail night,
03:39 then absolutely, hopefully he'll share some of those stories.
03:42 So I think you'd have to have Del Curry there as well.
03:44 So that's it. Those are my five people I would have at my birthday.
03:48 Thank you for the question, Jeff. That was a fun one to think about.
