00:00 The happiest places to live in Great Britain have been revealed and London's affluent
00:06 borough of Richmond-upon-Thames has taken top spot. The borough, now famous worldwide
00:13 for being the location of the hit television series Ted Lasso, rose to first from 11th
00:18 place in last year's edition of the Happy at Home Index from property experts Rightmove.
00:24 It marks the first time a London location has been crowned the happiest location in
00:30 the country.
00:31 I have been living for the last 40 years, 42 years and as I said if there is a life
00:40 after death I would choose to come back again in Richmond. I like the people in Richmond,
00:48 they are very nice, it's very cosmopolitan and the riverside is very beautiful, a lot
00:59 of boats go.
01:00 We do live here, it's a great place to live, it feels very safe and I mean the high street
01:09 is great, it has everything you could want, and the park and the riverside, it's all great
01:14 really. I really like it, it's lovely open spaces and yeah it feels quite safe.
01:20 I mean I've lived here now for about 10 years and the high street has really changed, it's
01:26 such a shame that lots of the good kind of independent shops have gone and loads of shops
01:30 are closed now, apart from that.
01:35 I think we could do it at the Christmas market, I think that would make Richmond a hundred
01:39 times better.
01:40 Yeah, yeah.
01:41 Definitely, yeah.
01:42 The area is best known for its green spaces including the 2,500 acre Richmond Park and
01:49 the magical Kew Gardens. The high street has a wide array of restaurants, cafes and also
01:55 the Orange Tree Theatre as well. Residents also scored the area highly for a feeling,
02:01 a sense of belonging and being comfortable to be themselves within the community. However,
02:07 while times are tough for many in the UK, many residents in Richmond might not be feeling
02:12 the pinch as much as others. The average house price in this area is just under £1 million,
02:19 sitting at around £950,000 and is one of the most expensive boroughs in London and
02:24 therefore one of the most expensive places to live in the UK too.
02:29 Now Rightmove gather their research by asking 26,000 people across Britain how happy they
02:35 are about where they live. The only other London spot that finished in the top 20 happiest
02:40 places to live in the UK was the equally affluent and even slightly more expensive borough of
02:46 Chelsea and Kensington. For more on this and to find out more news from across the capital,
