Jackson transferring is not a surprise
Transcript
00:00 This is not the least bit surprising.
00:02 It was kind of inevitable that Sam Jackson V would enter the transfer portal with a couple
00:08 of years of eligibility remaining and a redshirt freshman solidifying his spot as the starting
00:17 quarterback, presumably for the next couple of years.
00:20 And Jackson, he's not a guy who wants to sit behind and just wait for his opportunity in
00:26 case something weird happens.
00:27 He wants to be an established starter somewhere.
00:30 It'll be interesting to see where he winds up.
00:33 I'm not sure a Power Five conference school will be interested in bringing him in, although
00:41 a group of five school, I would imagine, would be quite interested.
00:44 He brings the running dynamic to a team.
00:49 He's fast.
00:50 He might have been the fastest player on the team.
00:51 He and Jay Knott were presumably the two fastest players, and he showed his speed a lot of
00:56 times.
00:57 Now, he's not very tall.
00:58 He was 5'11", maybe 5'10", and that's not real tall for a quarterback, as we know, although
01:03 that's not a big deal anymore.
01:05 There's a lot of shorter quarterbacks, even in the NFL, who have had success, so I don't
01:10 think that's going to hold him back too much.
01:13 But it'll be interesting to see where he winds up.
01:15 Now, Cal is without both backup quarterbacks next year in the transfer portal.
01:21 Ben Finley also went in the transfer portal.
01:24 So, I think at least one of them will stick around for the bowl game so that they have
01:30 a backup in that game behind Mendoza.
