00:00 Two days before the plan to stop the PASADA against the PUV modernization,
00:04 some groups showed their support for the program.
00:08 They called for the December 31 deadline to be not extended.
00:13 From Manila, we have live on the spot, Joseph Morong.
00:16 Joseph?
00:17 Sandra, the group of Jeepney drivers and operators
00:25 who support the PUV modernization program to show that they have consolidated.
00:32 The protest started in Welcome Rotunda, Quezon City
00:36 and they pushed to Mendiola, Manila.
00:39 400 groups from different parts of the country
00:42 that are forming United Transport Consolidated Entities
00:46 joined the movement today.
00:48 They called for the government to not extend
00:52 the December 31 deadline for Jeepney operators and drivers to consolidate.
00:57 This is not fair to them
00:59 that they followed the program since 2017.
01:02 According to the group, 1,700 groups have consolidated in the country
01:08 and 120 in Metro Manila.
01:11 They are surprised by what other groups are saying against the PUV modernization program
01:16 that the cooperatives are not making money.
01:18 It is not hard to borrow from banks
01:21 because the government has a 20% subsidy for each unit they borrow.
01:25 The group said that the commuters should not worry
01:29 that they will not be able to ride on December 14 and 15
01:34 when the group of Pistons agreed to extend the deadline for them
01:38 because they will be the ones to run on those days.
01:40 We are continuing to get reactions from the LTFRB and the Department of Transportation.
01:45 Meanwhile, for the students at the University of Santo Tomas,
01:50 the university announced that they will be virtual classes
01:55 because the group of Pistons' schedule for December 14 and 15
02:00 is to be stopped on Thursday and Friday.
02:02 Sandra?
02:03 Yes, Joseph.
02:04 I remember the DOTR said that the PUV modernization is non-negotiable for them.
02:10 So if this will not be extended,
02:14 how will the commuters be treated?
02:21 If they cannot comply,
02:27 what the DOTR wants to do to the groups that have not consolidated yet,
02:32 is to tell them to start the process of consolidation.
02:36 If they will not move on December 31,
02:38 January 1, it is possible that the jeepneys that have not consolidated will not be allowed to run.
02:46 And because of that, it is possible that there will be a transportation crisis
02:50 if that is a big part of the public transportation of jeeps that cannot consolidate.
02:56 But according to the DOTR's data,
02:58 70% of the public vehicles have consolidated
03:02 and they expect that that number is enough
03:05 to avoid the lack of vehicles by January 1.
03:10 Thank you very much, Joseph Morong.
03:13 The DOT is saying that only until December 31,
03:19 the jeepneys that have not consolidated or have no cooperatives can travel.
03:23 Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista answered that
03:26 in the planned stop of the Pistons' group on December 14 and 15.
03:30 Bautista said that only the Pistons and Manibela groups
03:34 that do not comply with the PUV modernization program of the government
03:38 will be more effective, more organized, and more comfortable
03:41 in transporting goods to the country through modernization.
03:46 We will try to get the Pistons' group, Mr. Agney Rito.
