Two People Have Been Charged with Murdering Prominent Adelaide Doctor Michael Yung.
Transcript
00:00 Dr Michael Young succumbed to his injuries and sadly passed away yesterday at the Royal
00:07 Adelaide Hospital following a violent home invasion in the early hours of Monday morning.
00:12 Major crimes detectives visited a home in Torrensville in Adelaide's western suburbs
00:18 late last night.
00:19 It was there where they arrested a 22-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman from Theverton.
00:24 They have both been charged with murder, aggravated serious criminal trespass and committing theft
00:31 using force.
00:32 They have been remanded in custody.
00:35 They will be facing the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.
00:39 Police have previously said that Dr Young was likely targeted because of the car that
00:44 he drove or other small items that the pair could steal.
00:50 Police have also yesterday said that all resources from major crime would be devoted to this
00:58 investigation into the attack of Dr Young.
01:02 Detectives were going to be working in conjunction with a task force which was investigating
01:08 a number of crimes across Adelaide.
01:12 Today police have said that this attack is not in relation to that task force.
01:18 Police have also said that they are not looking for any other suspects in relation to this
01:22 crime.
01:23 Let me be quite clear, the 22-year-old and the 27-year-old who have been arrested, there
01:28 are no other suspects being sought by detectives at this time and they are not related to Operation
01:35 Mandrake.
01:36 There was a possibility while we were still trying to look for offenders but that has
01:39 been ruled out.
01:41 Since the news of Dr Young's death there has been an outpour of tributes for the paediatrician
01:46 who worked at the Women's and Children's Hospital.
01:49 The interim CEO of the Women's and Children's Hospital, Dr Graham, said that he was a treasured
01:56 colleague and a friend to many in the health network.
01:59 She also went on to say that he will be greatly missed by the many families that he supported
02:03 through some of their most difficult times.
02:06 We also heard from Health Minister Chris Picton who expressed his condolences to Dr Young's
02:12 family and loved ones.
02:14 He went on to say that Dr Young was a respected and integral clinician who had dedicated his
02:20 life to supporting some of the sickest and most vulnerable kids in South Australia.
