What Bowl Games Are You Most Excited For? Just A Minute

00:01 This is Bama Central's just a minute.
00:03 Katie Bowl season begins this weekend,
00:04 so after a week and a week and a
00:07 half without college football,
00:08 it will return this weekend.
00:09 Obviously bowl games are a
00:11 little different these days.
00:12 You've got opt outs.
00:13 Of course,
00:13 the transfer portal is going crazy,
00:15 so when bowl games arrive,
00:16 you don't really know who's
00:17 going to be on each roster,
00:19 but starting this weekend,
00:20 bowls will be here.
00:21 So before we get into like the
00:23 nitty gritty of the New Year six
00:24 bowls and obviously we're going to
00:26 leave the college football playoff
00:27 out of this because Alabama is in it.
00:29 So what are some of the bowl games
00:31 this year you're looking forward to?
00:33 Yeah, like you said,
00:34 it's kind of a crazy time with guys
00:36 opting out transfer portal,
00:37 even coaching changes.
00:37 So some teams are without their coach.
00:39 Some teams stay with their coach.
00:41 I mean some coaches stay with
00:42 their team through the ball game,
00:44 but this isn't like the most intriguing
00:45 matchup, but just this weekend alone.
00:47 If you're dying to get your
00:48 college football fix in one of the
00:50 games I'm keeping my eye on is
00:51 Jacksonville State versus Louisiana
00:53 and in the New Orleans Bulls.
00:54 Because back before the season we
00:56 had the Alabama Sportswriters
00:57 Convention at Jacksonville State
00:58 and Rich Rod came in and spoke to
01:00 us a little bit and about their team.
01:02 And this being their first year in the
01:04 FBS and so I think technically it's
01:05 kind of like the James Madison thing
01:07 where they weren't going to be able
01:08 to play in books. It was their first year,
01:10 but then there like weren't enough teams
01:12 and he's done a good job with that team
01:14 this year and it's kind of crazy.
01:15 We asked him that day you know how
01:17 close he was taking Alabama job back
01:19 in 2007 before his wife kind of
01:21 backed out of it and saving came.
01:22 And it's kind of like what would
01:24 have been that he's in Jacksonville
01:25 State and Nick Saban still at
01:27 home all these years later.
01:28 So that's the game this weekend.
01:30 Kind of be interested in and then
01:31 also some non New Year six wise.
01:33 I'm looking at the Gator Bowl,
01:35 Clemson versus Kentucky.
01:35 Clemson's ranks,
01:36 you know a couple years ago it was
01:38 Clemson and Alabama at each other's
01:40 throats in the playoffs every single
01:41 year and Alabama's back in the playoffs.
01:43 Clemson's in the Gator Bowl.
01:44 Kind of had an up and down year against
01:46 the Kentucky team that had an up and down
01:49 year but Kentucky's last game was
01:50 against a team in the ACC that played
01:53 the ACC Championship in Kentucky.
01:54 One on the road.
01:55 So that's kind of an interesting one for me.
01:58 But what about you for some
01:59 on New Year six games?
02:00 Yeah, like I like that you picked
02:02 the Gator Bowl 'cause we think about
02:04 Clemson and Kentucky both down years,
02:05 right?
02:06 But if Clemson wins,
02:07 they finish their nine and four.
02:08 If Kentucky wins out of nowhere,
02:10 they finish the year eight and five.
02:11 So I mean that's a good year for
02:13 Kentucky and Clemson can kind of
02:15 salvage something that you know ever
02:16 since Tyler from Spartanburg happened.
02:18 I don't think they lost a game,
02:19 so maybe they need to do more
02:21 radio shows with Davo Sweeney.
02:22 We'll see I have one other one.
02:24 Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl could be good.
02:26 Obviously Oklahoma is dealing
02:27 with some portal stuff,
02:28 but Arizona really came on towards
02:30 the back half of the season.
02:31 I think they finished nine and three,
02:33 so big opportunity for them.
02:34 First year under Jed Fish to kind of win.
02:36 I think they get 10 wins if they beat OU.
02:38 Same thing kind of goes for Oklahoma.
02:40 They've got they got some momentum
02:41 going there and they got to play
02:43 in the SEC starting next year.
02:44 So this is kind of their last chance
02:46 to make a statement before then.
02:48 Onto the New Year six bowls.
02:49 There's a lot of good ones in there.
02:51 Like I said,
02:51 we're going to avoid the playoff games,
02:53 but.
02:54 I think obviously kind of a big
02:56 determining game and how people
02:58 are going to grade how the committee
03:01 did is Georgia versus Florida State.
03:03 Because.
03:05 You know,
03:05 Florida State's disappointing
03:06 that they get in the playoffs.
03:08 Georgia's disappointed
03:08 they didn't get the playoffs.
03:10 Florida State still without their quarterback.
03:11 Georgia, I'm sure we'll have
03:13 a lot of guys opt out,
03:14 but will Georgia kind of show that
03:16 Florida State didn't deserve to be in?
03:18 Will both teams be giving their best?
03:19 They both have a point to prove,
03:20 and so that's one I'm going to
03:22 kind of have my really.
03:25 I'd say all the New Year six outside of
03:27 Oregon Liberty or intriguing to me,
03:31 but what do you think about some of
03:32 the other New Year six matchups?
03:34 Yeah, so my favorite ones gotta
03:35 be Ohio State, Missouri.
03:36 I like your thought with the
03:37 Florida State Georgia game.
03:39 I just think if Georgia shows up
03:40 wanting to play like they can and how
03:43 you know if they want to prove
03:44 something to the committee that
03:46 they were one of the best four teams.
03:47 I don't see that being close game.
03:49 If Georgia enters the game with
03:50 that mindset just based on what
03:51 we've seen from Florida State,
03:53 whereas Missouri Ohio State's
03:54 interesting one because Ohio State
03:55 was that close to the playoff.
03:58 You know, down the stretch against Michigan.
03:59 They win that game.
04:00 They would have beaten Iowa.
04:01 I'm sure in the Big 10 championship
04:02 they would be playing for
04:03 national championship.
04:04 Instead, now they're playing against
04:06 the Missouri team who I think in this.
04:08 In this spot has a lot more to play
04:09 for with the light drink wits.
04:11 You know they've had a great season.
04:12 Ohio State's got a lot of guys in the
04:13 portal, including their quarterback.
04:15 We don't know if Marvin Harrison
04:16 is going to play in the game,
04:17 whereas with Missouri,
04:18 I think in an opportunity like this,
04:20 you'll see most of their roster play and
04:22 play with a chip on their shoulder.
04:23 It's Ohio State.
04:24 This is a big stage for them,
04:26 and it was a big year for
04:27 Eli Drake wits.
04:28 You know he had a hot seat kind of
04:29 ringing in the offseason and what
04:31 a big statement year they've had.
04:33 So so yeah,
04:34 that's the ball game I'm looking
04:35 forward to most outside of the
04:37 cultural playoff course where me
04:38 and Katie will be on New Year's Day.
