00:00 Have you completed the purchase of the "Pangnoche Buena"?
00:03 - Have you? - Yes, I haven't.
00:07 Let's talk about the latest supply and price of some grocery items.
00:11 We are joined by the Philippines Amalgamated Supermarket Association President,
00:15 Stephen Chua, or Kua.
00:17 Good morning and welcome to "Balitang Hali".
00:20 Good morning and good afternoon, Rafi and Connie.
00:23 Yes, Mr. Kua, in your observation,
00:26 how would you describe the purchasing behavior of our consumers this Christmas?
00:32 Is the sale strong? Is there a buy-or-go?
00:36 Well, we cannot tell this early.
00:39 Right now, I'm expecting sales to start.
00:41 People are just entering the supermarkets today.
00:45 There were already some over the weekend.
00:46 Last week, it was all corporate buying.
00:48 There were some with money, household buying.
00:52 But what we really expect is that household buying starts today.
00:55 So, some people just got their salary last Friday, Saturday, and it's still 13 months.
01:01 So, I think there's a bit of an increase in the supermarkets beginning today.
01:04 I think all the supermarkets are already crowded.
01:06 Yes. We also have reports from DTI that say that some "Pangnoche Buena" items
01:12 have earned a raise because some say that they are not following the SRP.
01:20 Do you have any earnings? Are you making any money?
01:24 Well, we are not monitoring our members.
01:27 But there might be. I do not know.
01:29 But if there is, I'm sure they have their reasons.
01:32 A lot of times, the manufacturers don't have the products now.
01:35 Everything is in the distributors.
01:37 So if they can't get their regular distributor,
01:40 they might get it from a wholesaler or other stores.
01:43 The higher the earnings, the higher the sales.
01:46 Because the conservative supermarkets are stocking up this year.
01:50 According to DTI, some products will hit and raise their prices at the beginning of the year.
01:55 Do you have a chance for this to change?
01:56 Well, pricing is a management strategy. It's a management decision.
02:02 It's really in the hands of the manufacturers.
02:04 If they need to raise their prices because they have plans to expand,
02:08 which will generate more employment, or to pay off their loans to the banks.
02:13 We don't know. For whatever reason, if they need to adjust,
02:15 then they will have to decide to adjust their prices,
02:18 and accordingly, if it's big or small.
02:20 It also depends on the purchasing power of the consumers at that particular time.
02:24 How is the price and supply of agricultural commodities that are sold in supermarkets?
02:29 They're relatively stable. Don't be afraid.
02:32 If the price of the products you bought in your favorite supermarket is high,
02:38 you might want to try another one.
02:40 I know that it's hard to travel, parking problems.
02:43 But you might want to try another one nearby.
02:46 Check out for yourselves if you're--
02:48 If you're getting a good deal in the supermarket that you're buying from.
02:51 Are there still online stores that you can buy from?
02:54 Can you buy and deliver?
02:56 You mentioned it, the traffic.
02:57 Online is 24/7, unlike physical stores or offline.
03:02 Online is 24/7. So there are stores that you can buy from.
03:06 Finally, please remind our viewers who are buying this holiday season.
03:11 Well, don't buy last minute.
03:13 I mean I'm sure there are a lot of last minute.
03:15 The last minute is usually queso de bola, jamon.
03:19 Because you're buying expensive, but later on, let's buy it because we have neighbors, but we don't.
03:25 If that's the case, you will be expensive and it will be hard to find stock.
03:30 So buy early.
03:31 Go to the sales sections.
03:33 Get what you can, what's worth for you.
03:36 Go out and buy the products you need now.
03:40 Don't wait until the last day.
03:41 This is just Sunday, Christmas Day.
03:43 Look for the ones that are bundled so you can save.
03:47 Thank you.
03:51 Thank you. Thank you very much.
03:52 Merry Christmas to both of you and the whole of GMA7.
03:56 Merry Christmas.
03:57 Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association President Stephen Kua.
