00:00 One of the most memorable moments of this year was introducing Dr. June Bacon-Bercy's story.
00:05 And it's so important because she was one of the first black meteorologists on air.
00:10 Tonight we start with Dr. June Bacon-Bercy.
00:13 She walked so that I can run.
00:15 And it's such a big deal because in weather you usually don't get to talk about stuff like that.
00:20 It's usually the news anchors that do that, so I got to introduce it.
00:23 Who reached unprecedented heights in her career and blazed trails for me and other black meteorologists.
00:29 We have a little bit of parallels in our life.
00:31 She was at WGRZ. It's called WGRZ now, but when she was there it was WGR, Buffalo.
00:37 And I was in Buffalo too. It's a little spooky.
00:40 I don't really believe in stuff like that, but it's cute to see that coincidence.
00:43 She reshaped the landscape for meteorology.
00:48 The reason why Dr. June Bacon-Bercy is so important to me is because I didn't see very many people like me growing up on TV.
00:54 And so to now do this, she paved the way so that I can do this.
00:58 I had a big drop in temperatures from Thursday to Friday.
01:00 And since being here at AccuWeather, I've received a lot of people reaching out that are like,
01:04 "Oh my gosh, I've seen you on TV."
01:06 And it's so nice to see somebody that looks like me.
01:09 It's nice to be able to make a little bit of a difference.
01:12 Definitely not as big as Dr. June Bacon-Bercy's difference, but it's still important to me.
