00:00 Every year has some major weather events that stick out to us as meteorologists,
00:04 but the one by far that sticks out the most to me was the tornado outbreak
00:08 at the very end of March as we turn the page to April.
00:11 March 31st into April 1st.
00:14 We had a tornado outbreak that led to big problems in both the Midwest parts of Iowa and Illinois,
00:21 but also into Arkansas and western Tennessee.
00:24 So there was kind of a two-pronged threat zone with this,
00:27 and we knew it was a major event.
00:30 Here's a live look from Tony Laubach's cameras.
00:32 He is chasing a confirmed tornado.
00:34 Tony, can you hear us?
00:36 Well, Jeff, this is a very large tornado.
00:39 Violent tornado!
00:40 We knew that there would be dozens of tornadoes,
00:42 but it was amazing in the days that followed how many tornadoes were verified,
00:46 how many actual tornadoes were confirmed from that event.
00:49 As we hit 100, 110, 115, over 120 tornadoes confirmed from just a 24-hour window,
00:56 and that puts this storm system into very rare territory
01:00 among the likes of the April 3rd and 4th, 1974 tornado outbreak
01:05 and the April 27th and 2011 outbreak,
01:08 with a tremendous number, over 120 tornadoes in just a 24-hour window.
