00:00 Because of the leak of ammonia, the smell is very strong.
00:05 In a construction site in Quezon City,
00:08 this is the fourth incident of ammonia leak in the country this year.
00:12 Ian Cruz was affected.
00:14 The firefighters responded quickly
00:20 to the leak of ammonia in an ice plant in Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue in San Antonio, Quezon City.
00:26 Because of the dangerous leak, the firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus and hazmat suit.
00:33 The reading of ammonia in the ice plant reached 1,200 parts per million of ppm
00:40 and the permissible limit was 25 ppm within 8 hours.
00:44 The ammonia should be 0 ppm.
00:47 We were waiting for the ice to melt and then we saw a leak.
00:52 All the employees in the plant, maintenance and office were immediately released.
00:57 The plant only had an ammonia leak recently.
01:00 All the people who were released were able to turn off all the gate bulbs.
01:04 No one was left open.
01:06 30 personnel, but for now, there were only 13 inside.
01:10 All of them were safe. We were all outside.
01:14 - Did you have a hard time breathing there? - No.
01:17 But when it's windy, the smell is very strong.
01:21 The smell was very strong when the leak of ammonia was said to have happened.
01:24 That's why the people near the ice plant were released.
01:29 According to the BFP, the smell can be removed, but it will take a long time
01:34 because the area where the leak of ammonia happened must be ventilated.
01:38 Aside from the ice plant, several nearby establishments temporarily stopped the operation.
01:44 When we arrived, we thought it was a fake. We thought it was a fake.
01:48 It's not like that. It's a fake smell.
01:50 Even the insects seemed to be exposed to the smell.
01:54 It was already 2 p.m. when the ammonia level in the air in the plant dropped to more than 200 ppm.
02:00 There was no leak, except for where the ice was released.
02:05 That's where the ammonia vapor was.
02:08 But the rest of the area was gone.
02:11 So this is just a residue.
02:13 The place is a big commercial residential area,
02:16 so the BFP-Quezon City will continue to monitor until the place is safe.
02:22 This is the fourth of the leaked ammonia leaks in the country,
02:25 followed by incidents in Taguig,
02:27 maybe in Aurora,
02:28 and Navotas where one person died.
02:31 According to the data of GMA Integrated News Research.
02:35 If this happens in your area,
02:37 immediately stay away from less than 100 feet.
02:40 Remove the clothes that are exposed to ammonia.
02:42 15 minutes of water bath is enough to remove the eyes or skin that are exposed to ammonia.
02:48 Use supplemental oxygen if you have difficulty breathing or go to the hospital.
02:53 For GMA Integrated News, Ian Cruz, for 24 Hours.
