00:00 So we met at a Halloween party many, many, many years ago
00:03 where Dylan was dressed as like,
00:05 do you know Jolly the Green Giant?
00:06 Like, I think he's the fake.
00:08 - I was a wood elf.
00:09 - Thank you so much for doing this interview with me.
00:13 I mean, you're in London right now.
00:15 What's your favorite part of being in London?
00:17 Ooh.
00:18 - The Guinness and pub culture is my favorite.
00:22 It's just the best.
00:24 And I have a lot of friends here,
00:25 so that's my personal favorite.
00:26 And Warhammer, of course.
00:28 Warhammer 40K is the best, so.
00:31 - I liked the Heinz baked beans.
00:33 - Beans for breakfast.
00:36 - I love that about England.
00:38 Beans any time of the day, you mean?
00:39 Like, put beans on anything.
00:40 - That's right.
00:41 - Love that about England.
00:43 - I love how everything's a pudding.
00:44 Have you noticed that?
00:45 - Everything's a pudding, yeah.
00:46 - Pudding has like no real, like, hard definition here.
00:49 Like, it's awesome.
00:51 - So, beautiful disaster.
00:53 I mean, a book turned into a movie.
00:56 What made you guys want to be a part
00:58 of turning this book into a movie?
01:00 - Well, I wasn't familiar with the book beforehand.
01:02 So, actually, when I read the script
01:05 and then auditioned for the project,
01:06 it was untitled "Roger Cummell Project."
01:08 Roger's our director.
01:10 So, I didn't know until after I got the job
01:12 that it was a book that was being turned into a movie.
01:14 But what attracted me about the script personally
01:16 was that it was so much more than a romance.
01:19 There's so much action involved.
01:20 It's really sexy.
01:22 It's really funny.
01:23 And I was certainly not expecting it
01:24 to be as funny as it is.
01:25 So, all of those things together
01:27 were what attracted me to the project.
01:29 - Abby.
01:30 My name is Abby.
01:31 - Travis.
01:32 Travis Maddox.
01:33 - Does that move really work?
01:36 - No, not a single time.
01:38 But it is sincere.
01:39 - You're not my type.
01:42 - I'm everybody's type.
01:43 - When I read it, I just,
01:44 the words just blasted off the page.
01:47 They were like, it was a very electric script.
01:49 And I also saw it as a challenge to myself physically,
01:53 which I was interested in doing.
01:55 It was a lot of training
01:56 and it was pretty tough in that regard,
01:58 but it's something that I was a little uncomfortable with
02:00 and I'd never done before.
02:01 So, I thought that I would rise to the challenge
02:04 and give it a try.
02:05 - You look like you did a great job.
02:07 (laughs)
02:07 - I had a lot of help.
02:09 It takes a village.
02:10 I'll say that.
02:12 - How long do you train for?
02:13 - Well, we had about four months lead time to train.
02:15 So, I did a lighter version of the training out in LA.
02:19 And then when we got to Bulgaria,
02:22 I trained for two hours of boxing
02:24 and two hours of bodybuilding every day.
02:27 So, it was four hours in total daily for about a month.
02:30 And that was pretty intense as you can imagine.
02:33 - Yeah, that's awesome.
02:34 I love boxing.
02:35 So, I imagine it could have been fun also.
02:38 Also talk about preparing.
02:40 Your on-screen chemistry just comes through the screens.
02:43 It really does.
02:44 Did you guys do anything to prepare for that?
02:46 Did that come naturally for you or?
02:48 - Oh, what was so funny
02:50 is that we've actually known each other for a long time.
02:52 So, we met at a Halloween party many, many, many years ago
02:56 where Dylan was dressed as like,
02:57 do you know Jolly the Green Giant?
02:59 Like, I think he's the face.
03:00 - I was a wood elf.
03:02 - No, you were like the face of corn,
03:04 like Jolly the Green Giant.
03:05 - Face of corn.
03:07 I was the spokesperson for corn everywhere.
03:12 - I'm pretty sure.
03:13 But we met at this Halloween party.
03:15 He witnessed me do my first and only keg stand.
03:19 And kind of from then on,
03:20 we didn't see each other for a long time
03:22 and we reunited on this and we became fast friends.
03:25 And there's a lot of trust and professionalism
03:28 between the two of us that just makes it easy
03:30 and makes that chemistry feel organic.
03:33 - Yeah, we have a lot of,
03:34 we have similar taste in humor, I'll say.
03:37 So, that always makes it easier too,
03:38 if you can joke around.
03:40 - Were there any like funny moments
03:42 in any of those heated scenes where you're just like,
03:44 no, this is not happening right now.
03:46 Me bursting out laughing or something like that?
03:48 - I mean, in the heated scenes, not necessarily,
03:52 because we had a really wonderful intimacy coordinator
03:55 named Corinne Evans and she was helping us guide
03:59 through the process of all of that.
04:00 And that, I think, is just like a wonderful step
04:03 in the industry that's happened
04:04 in kind of the last 15 years.
04:06 But the movie's pretty comical
04:09 and our director's a funny guy.
04:11 So, there's plenty of improv moments.
04:13 And we definitely, I think I can speak for the two of us,
04:17 but we felt like we were given enough space
04:19 to be as funny as we needed to be inside of the scene.
04:21 - And Dylan, I actually just recently watched an interview
04:25 with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler
04:27 for their new "Murder Mystery 2."
04:29 And they were like, you know,
04:30 Dylan and Cole are 30 years old now
04:33 and they were completely floored.
04:35 They were like, oh my God.
04:36 So, I mean, you've been acting for 30 years,
04:39 since you were a baby.
04:40 Who's been your favorite, I guess,
04:42 big actor in Hollywood to work with so far?
04:45 And besides Virginia Gardner.
04:47 - Besides, yeah, you weren't on the list.
04:49 Don't worry.
04:50 Look, I've been super blessed in my career
04:55 as to work with a lot of actors
04:58 and I've never had a bad encounter
05:01 with like any one of them, truly.
05:03 And I mean that, and that's rare
05:04 because I'm sure some people would just say that,
05:07 but I really haven't.
05:08 But I also think just as much as some of the big actors,
05:12 I would say I've had equally wonderful experiences
05:16 with actors who maybe don't get as much recognition
05:18 and that are consummate professionals
05:20 and show up on time and are funny as heck.
05:23 But I mean, if I had to mention, Adam is a gem.
05:26 And he, I saw him in Paris,
05:29 which I think you mentioned in that interview.
05:30 And it was still after all this time,
05:34 he knew me by my face as opposed to my brother.
05:38 - That's cool.
05:39 - And he could recognize the difference between it.
05:41 He's got, I think he's got like the most interesting brain
05:45 when it comes to that, because I've never seen him,
05:47 no matter how small an interaction,
05:49 forget somebody's name.
05:50 - That's incredible.
05:51 - Which is just a major talent.
05:53 So yeah, he's high up there.
05:56 - Well, congratulations on the movie again.
05:58 And thank you so much for the interview.
06:00 - Thank you very much. - Thank you so much.
06:01 Have a great day.
06:02 - Thanks for watching.
