00:00:10 >> And we are back with another episode of How 'Bout Them Celtics.
00:00:13 Sam and I are here recording on Monday, January 1st,
00:00:16 day after the Celtics took down the Spurs.
00:00:18 First day of the new year, first day of 2024.
00:00:21 Technically gonna be our third video though,
00:00:24 cuz we dropped the Spurs recap, then we dropped Talking Cs.
00:00:26 And now we're dropping this on the second, taking a look at everything going on in
00:00:31 the world of the Celtics.
00:00:32 But as usual, before that, let's give away some popcorn today, shall we?
00:00:37 Let's see who's winning some in Pompano today.
00:00:40 Go over to the wheel, five entries, there's never been a better time to enter.
00:00:45 Comment what's popping or email us saying what's popping with a chance,
00:00:50 for a chance I should say, to win yourself some popcorn.
00:00:53 You'll get a $10 gift card if you win.
00:00:55 We got five entries today to win some in Pompano.
00:00:59 Spin the wheel and see who is getting themselves some popcorn.
00:01:02 [SOUND]
00:01:04 >> Today, we got-
00:01:06 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:01:08 >> Ramsey's?
00:01:09 >> About time.
00:01:10 [LAUGH]
00:01:12 >> Ramsey's been fiending for some popcorn.
00:01:14 He's been wanting it and now they'll get the chance to test it out,
00:01:18 the mighty God.
00:01:19 There we go.
00:01:21 All right.
00:01:22 Thank you to in Pompano once again.
00:01:24 Again, comment what's popping or
00:01:25 email us saying what's popping at hbtcpod@gmail.com.
00:01:29 And Ramsey's, if we don't respond to your comment,
00:01:31 send us an email at hbtcpod@gmail.com with your name, phone number, and email.
00:01:35 And we'll get you set up with some popcorn.
00:01:37 But without further ado, let's get into some Celtics stuff.
00:01:40 Bleacher Report has been on a heater lately.
00:01:42 Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report put out two different articles talking about
00:01:45 potential Celtics trades.
00:01:47 One naming three targets and one naming three top priorities.
00:01:51 I'll read the priorities and then the targets because shocker,
00:01:55 they're very similar.
00:01:55 Top trade priorities, he said interior insurance, find a backup wing, search for
00:02:01 cheap shooting, and then shocker has three options for trade targets in a separate
00:02:06 article fall perfectly in line with those as Chetty Osmond,
00:02:09 which is the backup wing or shooting.
00:02:11 John Contrar, which is the wing, and then interior insurance, Andre Drummond.
00:02:17 Those are the three options they give.
00:02:18 I stand by if the Celtics trade for Andre Drummond,
00:02:21 it would be the funniest shit of all time because they just sent him to the free
00:02:24 throw line a million times earlier in the season.
00:02:26 Thoughts on those three names and or those three ideas, Sam.
00:02:30 So I legitimately think that the interior insurance is the most important thing they
00:02:41 need to do, if anything, because I think they can find an extra backup wing in
00:02:48 O'Shea Brissett.
00:02:50 We've been talking a lot about him lately because he's been getting a little bit
00:02:52 more burned in recent weeks, which is good.
00:02:55 I like O'Shea Brissett.
00:02:57 I think he brings a good energy to the team.
00:03:00 And I think if he makes threes consistently, he's really going to be able
00:03:04 to be a key contributor in some short minutes for the Celtics because when he
00:03:11 actually plays, he oftentimes has his fingerprints all over some positive
00:03:19 momentum for the Celtics.
00:03:20 So what is he shooting from three this year?
00:03:23 Do I need to have this up?
00:03:25 Whatever it is, it's on a very small sample size.
00:03:28 It was 40 last time I looked at 37.
00:03:30 Five ago.
00:03:31 So it's not bad, but he's probably only taken like 12 threes.
00:03:36 12 16 threes.
00:03:39 Okay.
00:03:40 Yeah, it's kind of close, but the sample size is not there.
00:03:44 The volume is not there.
00:03:45 He's not somebody they necessarily want taking a ton of shots from there right
00:03:48 now, but if he's able to improve, which I'm sure they have him doing work and
00:03:52 I'm sure he's putting in the work, he'll be a great found money guy.
00:03:56 Andre Drummond, greatest rebounder of all time.
00:03:59 Welcome to the club, buddy.
00:04:00 You can come join in and hang out with Luke Cornette in Nimi and lay in wait
00:04:08 for Al Horford slash Porzingis to need the day off.
00:04:11 I mean, we talked about drumming not long ago.
00:04:14 He had a monster game.
00:04:15 He had what 25 rebounds or something like that.
00:04:17 Ten of them were offensive.
00:04:19 Yeah, he had another one too.
00:04:20 He's been on a heater lately in his last five games under Drummond has had
00:04:24 his last 325 16 and 23 rebounds.
00:04:28 So he's since they put him in the starting lineup.
00:04:30 He's been dominant in that area.
00:04:32 Andre Drummond is like a weird guy though, because he's in this place
00:04:37 where we're like, is he washed maybe or is it just he doesn't really fit
00:04:43 in today's NBA where you really want your big guys to be able to do
00:04:47 something outside of the paint just floor.
00:04:50 I think at this point under Drummond would be a slightly better version
00:04:55 of Nami Esqueda.
00:04:56 I think he's a better rebounder.
00:05:00 I think he's probably slower.
00:05:02 I don't think he's going to be very good on the perimeter.
00:05:05 That said neither of the Celtics backup bigs are and so I stand on
00:05:08 if you're going to get a backup big you probably want one that does
00:05:11 something different than the other two not just a slightly better version
00:05:13 because at that point just keep playing with Luke Cornette keep developing
00:05:16 to me a Shkeda and use the spot on something else.
00:05:18 So I don't know how in I am on under Drummond.
00:05:22 He's a fine player.
00:05:22 I think there is a spot for him on a team.
00:05:24 I think he can make an impact.
00:05:25 I think the rebounding is important.
00:05:27 I just think the Celtics already have guys who can do similar things
00:05:29 to what he does.
00:05:30 No, I mean listen, the two of us are not on the Celtics need to do
00:05:36 some about their third string big guys train.
00:05:39 No, because Cornette is mostly been fine and Kate is exciting in the
00:05:43 sense that you feel like he has a little bit of a ceiling to him.
00:05:45 So you want to see him get as much run as he can in timely moments
00:05:49 where if you bring in drum and you're going to kind of cut at least
00:05:52 that part of it off.
00:05:53 If not Cornette entirely who's been earning like a good amount of
00:05:57 minutes like he's been fine.
00:05:59 There's no reason to really just be like screw this guy.
00:06:03 I don't want him out there.
00:06:04 So let's go get Andre Drummond.
00:06:06 Now, Andre Drummond is not somebody that's going to cost a lot of money
00:06:08 or not money a lot of assets probably a second round pick.
00:06:13 He'll fit in the TPE.
00:06:14 Correct?
00:06:14 Because the only makes like 2 million is on a minimum.
00:06:17 Yeah.
00:06:17 Yeah.
00:06:18 So I mean in that sense, he's like a free guy, but is he really free
00:06:22 if you're sacrificing guys you believe in in guys that you want to
00:06:27 see develop?
00:06:28 Maybe not the other two Shea Osmond and John Concar conchar fine.
00:06:35 I know conchar is someone that we've heard the Celtics being linked
00:06:38 to earlier back in November.
00:06:40 Yeah, they like his shooting.
00:06:41 They like his cheap deal and his deal spans over multiple seasons.
00:06:45 So he would be someone that you can not only work with for the
00:06:49 second half of 2023 24 but also builder build on top of keep
00:06:57 developing him or trade him again to have extra salary to throw
00:07:01 around the trades.
00:07:02 Sure.
00:07:03 Fine, whatever.
00:07:04 Yeah, that's the best one for me.
00:07:06 I again, I understand why the bleach reports writing all these
00:07:10 articles and in their defense, they're writing these for every
00:07:12 single team.
00:07:12 So you kind of have to add all the points, but there is no team
00:07:15 that needs anything less than the Celtics need stuff like they
00:07:20 don't need like they're good, right?
00:07:22 They don't need there's no holes on the roster.
00:07:23 Really.
00:07:24 The biggest holes are Luke Cornets not as good as a second string
00:07:28 center.
00:07:28 Yeah, because of the third string center.
00:07:30 He doesn't need to be as good as a second string center.
00:07:31 They don't have enough depth at the wing position.
00:07:33 Well, what about Sam Hauser?
00:07:34 What about Oh shape or set?
00:07:35 He's putting playing well lately like they have quote unquote
00:07:39 holes on the roster.
00:07:40 What the holes on the roster is that they don't go 10 deep.
00:07:43 They only go 90.
00:07:44 So that's not a very big problem to have and even then they
00:07:47 probably do go 10 deep with some guys you could throw in there
00:07:49 at the end.
00:07:49 So I like you said, like I've said, like we've said over and
00:07:54 over Celtics don't really need anything.
00:07:55 We can look at different trade options for at a million different
00:08:00 angles, you know, maybe something pops if a team, you know trades
00:08:04 for somebody then buys them out.
00:08:05 Maybe something pops if an unexpected team decides to rebuild.
00:08:09 But right now there's just not much out there that you'd expect
00:08:12 to become available.
00:08:13 So it just feels like Brad has done a good enough job to give
00:08:17 them great guys to have on the roster.
00:08:19 I think percent is just like the primary sample that he hasn't
00:08:23 seen consistent minutes this year yet.
00:08:25 Anytime he gets the opportunity.
00:08:27 He looks pretty solid.
00:08:29 There are a lot of times where you see him playing.
00:08:31 You're like damn this guy like he's hurting them.
00:08:34 You're just like, oh wow, he got a steal.
00:08:36 Oh, he got an offensive rebound.
00:08:38 Oh big dunk.
00:08:41 Those are good things.
00:08:42 Great.
00:08:43 I'm in favor of O'Shea.
00:08:45 I don't really want to see them bring in a Chetty Osmond or
00:08:48 a conchar to cut off his Avenue to getting extra time either.
00:08:52 It's just I'm excited by the guys on the roster and I know
00:08:56 it's not exciting headline material for us to title the video
00:09:00 as but I think they're worth talking about in or at least at
00:09:05 least the people in the comments being excited about because
00:09:08 they've done just about anything you could ask of them and
00:09:12 they haven't been given aside from Cornette the greatest of
00:09:16 opportunities to showcase what they can do playing in a staggered
00:09:22 situational role where you're only out there every once in
00:09:25 a while is very difficult because you're trying so hard
00:09:27 to prove yourself and to take into account the percentage
00:09:32 shot 37% from three.
00:09:34 I'll be done 16 attempts and also just been a menace all over
00:09:38 the floor is remarkable Cornette being able to walk into the
00:09:44 starting lineup on Friday after not playing in two weeks and
00:09:48 have a 20 point game including a big dunk at the end to help
00:09:51 them go up in the fourth quarter.
00:09:53 That's awesome.
00:09:55 That's impressive.
00:09:56 People should be happy about that.
00:09:58 Kata somebody that is on the younger side at 24 doesn't mean
00:10:03 he's 19 has all this promise about him, but he has strength.
00:10:07 He's a good rebounder.
00:10:09 He can get up in dunk.
00:10:11 He's not the greatest finisher around the rim in terms of
00:10:14 non dunks, but if he's able to improve on that and also move
00:10:17 his feet a bit better, he can be a great big body to bring
00:10:21 off the bench.
00:10:21 This is all things that people should be excited about aside
00:10:25 from trades. Is it cool for us to talk about Andre Drummond?
00:10:27 Yeah, it is.
00:10:29 It's funny.
00:10:29 He's the greatest rebounder ever.
00:10:31 He's put up some crazy stat lines.
00:10:33 He's become a starter in Chicago.
00:10:35 And he fits in the TPE.
00:10:37 I don't hate it.
00:10:39 If they do it, I'm not going to be slamming my desk, but it
00:10:43 none of it feels necessary is the point.
00:10:45 You have the best record in the league.
00:10:47 I understand the insurance thing.
00:10:48 You're like, well, what if poor thing is gets hurt?
00:10:51 What if Horford's age catches up to him?
00:10:53 It's all valid.
00:10:54 And it wouldn't hurt to have somebody maybe maybe in a Blake
00:10:57 Griffin type role where they only get minutes when there's
00:11:01 going to be somebody out of the rotation like last year.
00:11:04 Blake was just hanging out on the bench until Horford needed
00:11:06 a day off.
00:11:07 He wasn't taking minutes away from Cornette in the regular
00:11:09 season.
00:11:09 Yeah, you just don't really need anything that I think that's
00:11:14 the end of the day.
00:11:15 Honestly, if you want to talk about end of the roster final
00:11:18 roster spots, just go get Blake Griffin back.
00:11:21 That would make me happy.
00:11:22 That would be the move that would make me the happiest.
00:11:24 If they just went and said, like, you had your time off
00:11:27 at the family, join us for the playoff run, and then you
00:11:29 can retire a champion.
00:11:30 If we would, that's all I want.
00:11:32 I'll take it.
00:11:32 Get Blake is ring and move on with everything.
00:11:35 I haven't heard anything about Blake Griffin in a while.
00:11:37 I wonder what is actually going on with that because I think
00:11:40 the people here still like him like any time like when we
00:11:43 talk about him, take some of my comment, be like, Blake
00:11:45 Griffin rules because he does.
00:11:47 And I think the way that you mentioned is kind of interesting
00:11:51 like he did get his little break from basketball and he
00:11:54 could very well just kind of show up and be a part of the
00:11:56 ride.
00:11:56 Why not?
00:11:58 That'd be cool.
00:11:59 They all like him.
00:11:59 I'd like to hear speaking of the people liking players.
00:12:05 The Spurs fans in San Antonio were big fans of Derek White
00:12:08 when the Celtics went down there.
00:12:10 Celtics fans were there invested in the cheering too, but
00:12:13 I think some Spurs fans got in on the action.
00:12:15 San Antonio does love Derek White.
00:12:17 You got some all-star chance that what did you see how many
00:12:23 fucking green shirts were there yesterday?
00:12:24 There are a lot that doesn't mean San Antonio doesn't like
00:12:27 Derek White.
00:12:27 They were doing actually just finished the newsdom and then
00:12:30 I'll like start your piece of shit.
00:12:32 You know that I didn't think it was going to go that long.
00:12:36 I'm sorry.
00:12:36 Derek White got all-star chance in San Antonio.
00:12:40 They were chanting whites and all-star drew holiday get into
00:12:43 the action South expense like that after the game Greg Popovich
00:12:46 talked about him said I just couldn't be more proud when he
00:12:50 first came here.
00:12:51 I don't think he believed he belonged to the NBA to watch
00:12:53 from developed through the years starting in the G League
00:12:54 playing with us and then making more steps in Boston has been
00:12:57 a thrill one of the greatest guys ever in his confidence
00:12:59 has exploded.
00:12:59 It's been a process.
00:13:00 He's been in the league seven years, but he's a great story
00:13:02 said he's thrilled for him.
00:13:03 City had a national understanding of the game with his IQ
00:13:06 all that stuff talked about how we got to watch man who
00:13:09 practice hard at managing.
00:13:10 Obli said he was a great example player for Derek and then
00:13:13 Derek in response to it all said I'm just thankful and grateful.
00:13:16 I'm just trying to go out there and help us win.
00:13:17 I think if I was to make an all-star game, it's because
00:13:19 of how much we're winning in the type of team we have.
00:13:21 So I'm thankful to be a part of this.
00:13:23 Team in this organization and the culture that we're building
00:13:25 and me making it or not making it doesn't change the fact
00:13:28 that I'm just thankful to be here.
00:13:29 Yes.
00:13:29 There were a lot of green shirts in San Antonio, but that
00:13:31 doesn't change the fact that the Spurs organization and Spurs
00:13:34 fans everywhere love Derek white and I'll let you get angry

00:14:17 There's nothing wrong with us talking about this because
00:14:23 this is a legitimate thing.
00:14:25 There's a legitimate push for Derek white to be an all-star.
00:14:28 But I don't really think you were doing this but I've seen
00:14:32 this online to push that it was in I've had people text me
00:14:37 about this to push that it's the the Spurs fans that got this
00:14:41 going is just not true.
00:14:44 It's not when the Derek white is an all-star chance.
00:14:48 We're going around there were booze coming from the home fans
00:14:53 that stuck around to watch their team get killed by 30.
00:14:56 Let's not pretend.
00:14:58 This was a full arena of of eager Spurs fans to watch their
00:15:02 team compete.
00:15:03 This was all the Celtics fans that either traveled to San
00:15:08 Antonio or are local to San Antonio and never get to see
00:15:12 the Celtics.
00:15:13 There's one game a year that the Celtics are there.
00:15:15 They are going to stay till the final buzzer.
00:15:17 You bet your ass.
00:15:18 I saw himelsbach tweet about this yesterday and he said it
00:15:23 was a guy in a Paul pierce jersey that started the chance.
00:15:25 So it was not the Spurs fans chanting for Derek white.
00:15:31 I do understand that Derek white is well liked there as he
00:15:35 should be Derek white a fantastic individual fantastic
00:15:40 basketball player does everything right and he's not a
00:15:42 pain in the ass.
00:15:43 But if I was a Spurs fan, I don't know it depends how they
00:15:48 feel about him, but I'd be kind of heated if everyone was
00:15:51 like getting in on it.
00:15:51 It's like, all right, he didn't leave it wasn't his choice
00:15:55 to leave but like I don't I think that's like it.
00:15:59 There were plenty of Celtics fans there that were the legs
00:16:02 behind all that.
00:16:03 Let's not play make-believe.
00:16:05 Sure.
00:16:07 The point of this segment was supposed to be it was cool
00:16:11 that Derek white got the chance.
00:16:13 I don't know how it turned into something cynical, but I
00:16:15 guess I should have expected it.
00:16:16 Attention.
00:16:18 That's why I can't have it.
00:16:20 I can't have it.
00:16:21 I just can't you're a piece of shit.
00:16:23 You're the worst.
00:16:23 I'm trying to talk about something cool and you just have
00:16:26 to ruin it.
00:16:26 You just had to ruin something.
00:16:28 Why do you I think we owe our listeners a legitimate news
00:16:37 and that's fake fake.
00:16:40 It was not there's a zillion Celtics fans there and they're
00:16:43 pumped that they get to see their team for the one time.
00:16:45 They're going to get to see him all year.
00:16:47 Of course.
00:16:48 It's a Celtics fans doing it as far as Derek white being an
00:16:51 all-star.
00:16:52 I think it's legit.
00:16:52 His numbers are respectable.
00:16:56 They're exceeding any kind of thought that we would have had
00:17:01 of his performance heading into the season.
00:17:03 He's wildly efficient, which is the best thing of all time
00:17:09 efficiency should be like the number one thing that people
00:17:11 look at to see who the best guys in the league are even though
00:17:14 he is playing with the luxury of not having the focus on him
00:17:18 at all times, but it's clear that Popovich and the Spurs love
00:17:22 him when he got traded here.
00:17:24 I believe it was on the reddick pod.
00:17:26 He talked about the exit from San Antonio and how pop kind
00:17:31 of was like listen, like they're going to take good care of
00:17:33 you there.
00:17:34 Things are going to go.
00:17:35 Well, it's a good organization.
00:17:36 Brad's great and the relationship that Derek white had built
00:17:41 with pop was truly a big deal in his career because like it's
00:17:47 talked about here.
00:17:48 He didn't really have the confidence when he came to the
00:17:51 league scout kept talking about yesterday.
00:17:53 It was something that white mentioned when he talked to reddick
00:17:57 they had to beat it into his brain that he was an NBA level
00:18:02 player.
00:18:02 Never mind an all-star just somebody that belonged in the
00:18:05 NBA after going to junior college in Johnson and Wales, which
00:18:10 was the cooking school that drew Carter and scour trying to
00:18:13 figure out which school was show Johnson Wales.
00:18:15 They have one in Rhode Island, but they had one in Colorado
00:18:17 too. And he had just such a unique journey to the NBA.
00:18:20 Of course, he's not going to like believe in himself.
00:18:22 So shout out to the Spurs for helping him realize his talent.
00:18:26 Of course, that's a big deal in his journey to where he is
00:18:29 now is widely impacted by San Antonio to yeah.
00:18:35 I just thought it was cool thing.
00:18:36 Also Spurs good people because they continuously help Celtics
00:18:40 out in trades.
00:18:41 There was a Derek white trade which was like at the time it
00:18:44 felt like his days in San Antonio might be numbered just
00:18:47 because he might have been getting kind of too big for what
00:18:50 they were trying to do.
00:18:51 I think we talked about this like what if he stayed with the
00:18:53 Spurs while his minutes might have taken a hit because they're
00:18:56 trying to develop younger guys.
00:18:57 And then also when Celics want to get rid of Noah Vonley, so
00:19:02 they just dumped him to San Antonio.
00:19:04 Yeah, I forgot about the Noah Vonley thing to be honest.
00:19:08 I didn't bowl bowl end up there to or did he know he went
00:19:10 to Orlando.
00:19:10 But yeah, I just thought it was a cool thing.
00:19:15 I didn't expect it to turn into this whole fucking thing.
00:19:17 I just wanted to talk about Derek white and the quotes and
00:19:19 pop and all that stuff.
00:19:21 But there were a lot of Celtics fans.
00:19:23 They're doing it.
00:19:24 And I mean, it's always just cool to hear about Derek white
00:19:26 and his journey and stuff.
00:19:28 And I know Greg Popovich was a big part of it.
00:19:30 Obviously wrote about Derek white last year and it was cool
00:19:33 to hear sort of some of those things brought up again by pop.
00:19:37 But next thing we have is a bunch of NBA executives who spoke
00:19:42 with Steve bull pet are effectively terrified of the Celtics.
00:19:45 That is basically the storyline here.
00:19:47 If you read all the quotes, that's basically what they say.
00:19:49 There's a lot of quotes here.
00:19:51 I'm going to skim through them really quick just so you get
00:19:53 the gist.
00:19:53 So it's not just me talking for a big Celtics circle jerk
00:19:56 time.
00:19:56 Get ready pretty much.
00:19:58 So the way they came back to run over Sacramento and the
00:20:02 two la teams after screwing up against the Warriors says
00:20:04 a lot before they'd fall into a one-on-one with Tatum and
00:20:07 Brown when things got tough, but you're not seeing that anymore.
00:20:09 Those guys are giving it up more than they should are more
00:20:11 when they should and they've got too many people who can
00:20:14 beat you.
00:20:15 Another exec said Boston's defense has been huge with the
00:20:18 biggest thing on the other end of the floor is how they're
00:20:20 moving the ball isolation.
00:20:21 Basketball has been their default.
00:20:22 If they're not playing well, it's always because of one
00:20:24 reason ball movement.
00:20:25 That was the biggest issue within the coaching staff.
00:20:27 The inability of the team to recognize it consistently the
00:20:29 value of moving the ball and that's what that coaching staff
00:20:31 got all bent out of shape.
00:20:33 But if those guys are buying into what Missoula, excuse me,
00:20:35 Missoula is asking they keep asking and cutting who boy
00:20:38 watch out terrified and don't forget Horford moving to the
00:20:42 bench and giving that group and anchors at another source
00:20:44 or the latter source Brad made some major moves and they're
00:20:48 obviously good ones, but guys still had to buy in I said
00:20:52 listen anybody in the world would trade Rob Williams for
00:20:56 perzingis and Marcus mark for holiday.
00:20:58 That's not even a discussion not even close.
00:20:59 Those are major major upgrades.
00:21:01 The order in which the trade happens here cause some debate
00:21:04 there but the conclusion of a Boston ended up with was a
00:21:06 steal said I'm a Marcus mark.
00:21:08 I love what he brings blah blah blah, etc.
00:21:09 But I don't think there's any doubt that Drew's an upgrade
00:21:11 in terms of team chemistry not saying those guys didn't like
00:21:15 Marcus, but I didn't like it at all.
00:21:16 Excuse me.
00:21:17 I'm not saying that at all, but I've never heard anybody
00:21:19 player coach for an office guy ever have anything negative
00:21:21 to say about your holiday.
00:21:22 Everyone's personality can either put you in a good feel
00:21:25 put you on edge Marcus is intense, but I talked to people
00:21:28 who've coached him and there are times when his personality
00:21:30 becomes an issue to deal with and if you can get some of
00:21:32 the same things without the agit of his irritational exuberance.
00:21:36 I think Drew's a better player and an easier personality
00:21:38 to live with.
00:21:39 Let's see.
00:21:41 What else last quote is he's number three.
00:21:43 He ate one or two.
00:21:44 He ate Batman or Robin.
00:21:45 He's Alfred and the butler and that's okay in that role with
00:21:48 his talent the butler can kill you and he's found a role
00:21:51 with his efficiency.
00:21:53 Basically everyone is like, yeah, I think so.
00:21:56 I'm not sure I put them in here in the order.
00:21:58 So I assume so but yeah, there are.
00:22:00 It's a lot to unpack here.
00:22:02 Basically Celtics nasty teams around the league scared of
00:22:05 the moves they made.
00:22:06 They are very very good and basically saying they're
00:22:11 unstoppable effectively and I'm just double checking.
00:22:14 No that sorry.
00:22:15 The Alfred quote was about Porzingis.
00:22:16 So there you go.
00:22:18 When I first read it.
00:22:19 I kind of thought it was about Porzingis.
00:22:20 It makes sense.
00:22:21 Like Porzingis doesn't need to be the guy with the ball all
00:22:26 the time, but it's great that he can be and him being able
00:22:29 to do that is one of the reasons why that first kind of section
00:22:32 of this is true where they're not going to isolation as much
00:22:35 because they can trust him.
00:22:36 They know they can pass him the ball or post him up and
00:22:39 the result is legally going to be good.
00:22:41 Porzingis is excellent at getting some of the free throw
00:22:43 line.
00:22:43 He was ass in the first quarter against San Antonio in the
00:22:46 first half and he still had like six free throws.
00:22:49 He was able to put pressure on the defense make them follow
00:22:52 him and get easy looks to maybe get himself going.
00:22:54 He didn't really get going but free throws are key to that.
00:22:59 So him being there is just a big difference maker and it's
00:23:04 something we kind of throw back and forth every once in a
00:23:06 while.
00:23:06 We talked about who the most impactful guy is Derek White
00:23:09 is the best net rating, but I feel like when Porzingis is
00:23:12 there just so much different.
00:23:13 I know they've won big games without him being there, but
00:23:16 just the difference he can make in a close game opening
00:23:20 night against the Knicks.
00:23:20 He makes a big three the Pistons game.
00:23:23 He took over down the stretch.
00:23:25 He had a bunch of buckets even though it was the Pistons.
00:23:28 It was still impressive to see him step up in such a big way.
00:23:31 I just love that they went and got him.
00:23:34 I at the time miss I was upset that they got rid of Marcus.
00:23:37 I was always in on the Porzingis part of the trade though,
00:23:39 because when the bragging thing happened, we were amped go
00:23:42 watch the video.
00:23:42 It's always tough to give up Marcus who I don't know.
00:23:47 I'm not saying any of the talent stuff is incorrect.
00:23:52 It's a fact those guys are certainly better players, but
00:23:55 it does suck.
00:23:55 These not a team anymore.
00:23:56 I'll stand by it.
00:23:58 Yeah, no, I mean you wish he was around for this some quotes.
00:24:02 I missed which is the title of the article.
00:24:04 They're almost unstoppable if they play that way when talking
00:24:07 about the ball movement, they rely a lot of three point shot
00:24:10 and the three point shot can go South periodically just talking
00:24:13 about that volatility.
00:24:14 And the last thing was it's funny.
00:24:16 Everybody's looking at Dame going to Milwaukee to play with
00:24:18 the honest and all of a sudden Boston comes under the radar
00:24:20 adding holiday to what they already had in Porzingis.
00:24:23 I think it stunned everybody.
00:24:25 Everybody's paying attention to the bright light with the
00:24:26 all-star and Boston swooped in and won the offseason guys around
00:24:29 the league were pissed that they were able to pull that off.
00:24:31 She's just super funny to hear.
00:24:34 Isn't it funny though?
00:24:35 Because when the Dame thing happened we came on here and we
00:24:39 were like kind of like drew holiday.
00:24:44 Are they going to do it?
00:24:45 He was in a thumbnail.
00:24:46 He was in a thumbnail before he got traded here and it happened
00:24:49 so fast.
00:24:50 It was like instant.
00:24:52 It was like two days later.
00:24:53 I was driving to the gym and I had to turn around.
00:24:55 I was like video time baby.
00:24:57 We're going what a sequence that was.
00:25:01 I know when we were doing it was like do they really want to
00:25:04 give up Rob like Rob's to be the guy you don't you really want
00:25:07 to give up Rob you kind of string yourself that thin.
00:25:10 It's the same conversations everyone has now with the do you
00:25:13 believe in Cornette?
00:25:14 Well looks like we do believe in him and giving up Rob is not
00:25:19 an issue.
00:25:19 Yeah, September 28th.
00:25:22 We published a meal or traders with bucks and the drew holiday
00:25:25 Celtics trade idea October 1st.
00:25:27 Can the morning of on October 1st Celtics quote appeal to
00:25:31 drew holiday as trade destination and then later that day on
00:25:34 the first breaking news Celtics trade for true.
00:25:36 It was one to bang bang within a span of three days.
00:25:40 He was on the Celtics.
00:25:41 I feel like I don't know why it just it felt like not we knew
00:25:44 but it felt like everyone is kind of like this.
00:25:47 This is going to happen.
00:25:48 It was like the one time the Facebook Photoshop's are making
00:25:51 a little bit of sense.
00:25:52 I was like, yeah, like money kind of works like fit works.
00:25:57 He's not going to stay in Portland like there definitely are
00:26:00 more dominoes to fall and then like you said bang and ESPN or
00:26:04 whoever put it out.
00:26:05 Woj, they had the Photoshop ready.
00:26:08 It was just a picture him with that that Celtics Jersey and
00:26:11 hey, I'm not saying that we called the two biggest trades of
00:26:15 the offseason, but we did kind of call the two biggest Celtics
00:26:18 trades of the offseason.
00:26:19 Like we were on Porzingis.
00:26:21 You are you are on Porzingis in particular before it happened.
00:26:24 We had that on lock.
00:26:26 We were just kind of like poking around with the holiday thing.
00:26:29 Like what if huh?
00:26:30 That would be sick.
00:26:31 Porzingis was on a thumbnail before he got traded to the
00:26:35 Celtics.
00:26:36 We were there.
00:26:38 We were ready.
00:26:39 We were talking about it and then it happened.
00:26:41 So pat us on the back a little bit good for us.
00:26:44 Anyways, Celtics basically the whole part of that the whole
00:26:48 point of that segment was teams around the league are not happy
00:26:52 with the Celtics are scared of them and you can see why when
00:26:55 you watch the last stretch of four games of them just stomping
00:26:59 three quality teams and then the Spurs which the Spurs of the
00:27:02 Spurs are six games.
00:27:03 I forgot about the Pistons Raptors in between but some stomps
00:27:07 of good teams in there.
00:27:09 Next thing we got is more Derek White from San Antonio.
00:27:12 Now, let me pull up the clip here.
00:27:16 Derek White was talking about a clip of him and Victor
00:27:21 women Yama Menyama got the ball was out in transition and was
00:27:26 going for a super cool dunk and Derek White as he usually does
00:27:30 was ready to go for a chase down block.
00:27:32 Now, they're quite a six foot four six foot five Victor
00:27:36 women Yama is seven foot four seven foot five.
00:27:37 And so as clutch points put it kindly here Derek White made
00:27:42 a wise business decision.
00:27:44 And if you're watching on YouTube, you can see Victor women
00:27:46 Yama gather the ball at the three-point line take two steps
00:27:50 and Derek White just duck out of the way and decide, you know
00:27:52 what?
00:27:52 Maybe I'm not going to try for this block.
00:27:54 Yeah, like I don't know how often all you in the comments
00:27:58 are playing basketball.
00:28:00 But when I played today my gather starts at like the elbow
00:28:05 of that.
00:28:06 Yep, sometimes a little closer.
00:28:08 Yeah, if it's a good stretch if I get some good like momentum
00:28:11 and then I can maybe gather there do a little two-step or
00:28:14 a euro or something, but it's usually inside the three-throw
00:28:18 line might be the second hash mark actually.
00:28:20 Now, I'm looking at it quote from Derek White when asked about
00:28:25 it. He goes, I'm not an idiot.
00:28:27 He said about trying to go for it.
00:28:30 I was hoping you would take another dribble and then I could
00:28:32 try to you know, do the strip or the steel but he picked it
00:28:34 up and I never saw it again.
00:28:35 So I was just trying to get out of the way.
00:28:37 That was crazy, which is just an all-time quote.
00:28:39 You can look at him.
00:28:40 Look at Derek White look for one minute.
00:28:43 I want to put it down.
00:28:44 Yeah, look at him.
00:28:45 He's like, okay, he's gonna put the ball down then he just
00:28:46 realizes that he's not putting that ball down.
00:28:48 He's like, all right, I'm done.
00:28:50 It was crazy to see kind of how when bees presence had an
00:28:55 effect on the way the Celtics were doing things.
00:28:57 He's effectively somebody who can defend two guys at once,
00:29:00 especially if you put him on the weak side.
00:29:02 He's leading the leading blocks.
00:29:04 He's insane.
00:29:06 He's crazy.
00:29:08 This year my boy Ray who his grandmother watches the the
00:29:12 pregame streams every single night.
00:29:13 So shout out to Graham.
00:29:14 Shut up.
00:29:15 Graham immediately texted right first thing.
00:29:17 She texted him.
00:29:18 Holy fuck.
00:29:19 This guy is tall.
00:29:20 Yeah, we were watching with I was watching at the New Year's
00:29:25 Eve thing with some of my friends and they are they watch
00:29:28 the Celtics like most of the games another one watches a few
00:29:31 games sprinkled in whatever and they were just looking at
00:29:33 him. They're like, what the fuck is it?
00:29:36 Holy shit.
00:29:37 What would be there's like what the hell is funny.
00:29:40 He started off like oh of three like he missed like an easy
00:29:43 paint shot over Porzingis miss some threes.
00:29:45 I was like they drive to this guy first.
00:29:46 Oh of three bomb.
00:29:48 They made like four in a row.
00:29:50 Yeah, and then they started falling.
00:29:51 He's averaging 1.3 steals and 3.1 blocks a game as a rookie.
00:29:57 Like I'm not saying this guy's gonna average five blocks,
00:29:59 but this guy might average five blocks came down to 3.1
00:30:03 steals to 1.3 steals.
00:30:05 3.1 blocks dyslexic with my hearing.
00:30:08 Yeah.
00:30:09 I mean this guy's insane is his splits aren't great.
00:30:11 But once they get a good team around him and once he develops
00:30:14 a little bit more puts a little muscle on like you can see
00:30:18 so usually when rookies are struggling you might say, ah,
00:30:21 this guy be a boss, you know, is he is going to be a different
00:30:23 player we expected you can see what one B is going to be
00:30:26 and it's terrifying like you can see what is happening.
00:30:29 It's just the team's not very good right now.
00:30:30 So it is crazy how bad the Spurs are like we've got to
00:30:35 see some bad teams over the last week now after I mean
00:30:39 the whole thing has been so have had the hardest strength
00:30:41 of schedule and they have the best record but we've actually
00:30:44 got to see some as games in a row.
00:30:46 Yeah, the difference is crazy.
00:30:48 Some of these guys are just out there running.
00:30:51 Yeah, this person I forget.
00:30:53 I mean that was the the Mamu Kalishvili airball was the
00:30:56 worst shot I've ever seen in an NBA game.
00:30:58 That was I need to pull it up.
00:31:00 That was the crazy.
00:31:01 Yeah, pull it up.
00:31:02 Pull it up.
00:31:03 We were watching.
00:31:04 I said this on the postgame last night.
00:31:06 We were watching and my buddy took the over on the game
00:31:09 and he just was just like head in hands.
00:31:12 He was like, holy shit.
00:31:13 We started crying laughing at that shot.
00:31:16 It is funny.
00:31:17 It was nuts.
00:31:18 I need to find it.
00:31:19 Let's see.
00:31:20 I think it was a second to last three in the night.
00:31:22 No, it was his third to last three.
00:31:24 You this dude was Chuck in threes at the end of the game.
00:31:26 How many he took three in the fourth quarter his hero.
00:31:31 Jason Tatum was on the other bench.
00:31:33 So he had to impress.
00:31:35 You muted.
00:31:37 I'm not seeing that you're good.
00:31:41 Now.
00:31:41 I can't find it.
00:31:43 It's not I went to the box score to try to find it.
00:31:46 Well now I'm annoyed.
00:31:47 I want to take longer.
00:31:49 Oh, maybe it was a two.
00:31:50 How did it do that was in the corner?
00:31:53 I'm not going to spend.
00:31:54 Yeah, I think it was.
00:31:56 I think it was a two.
00:31:57 We got to find it.
00:31:58 We promised the people.
00:31:59 I know.
00:31:59 I know.
00:32:00 This shot looked like it was an NFL kicker taking a field goal
00:32:03 when it was real windy.
00:32:05 It was in the fourth quarter, right?
00:32:07 It was in the fourth quarter.
00:32:08 No, I think it's glitched because I see you've missed three
00:32:12 point shot, but it's a lot of it in the layup.
00:32:14 And so they mess.
00:32:14 Oh, no, they they wiped it from the internet because they said
00:32:18 we do not have this out there showing that this is someone
00:32:22 that plays in the NBA.
00:32:23 Yeah, I wonder if they'll have the back-to-back Randall airball
00:32:26 threes in there from today.
00:32:28 Not sure.
00:32:30 Yeah, no, I unfortunately can't find it.
00:32:32 They're just they're wiping it.
00:32:35 I will say it is funny because I like Mamu.
00:32:39 He's cool when he was coming out of the draft.
00:32:41 I tweeted about him.
00:32:42 I said, I really like what he brings.
00:32:43 He's a good ball handler.
00:32:44 I think it was agent.
00:32:45 Whatever.
00:32:47 No, he DM to me.
00:32:48 Oh, he DM Jew.
00:32:50 Yeah, he said he was like time to prove people wrong.
00:32:53 My guy.
00:32:53 He's a nice like we had a nice conversation or whatever, but
00:32:55 it was like a small conversation, but it was it was funny to
00:32:58 see you should find a tweet of I'm sure somebody tweeted the
00:33:01 airball and be like we proven him wrong or what I can't find
00:33:05 it.
00:33:05 I just I'm trying to find send it to him.
00:33:07 No, maybe not.
00:33:08 Maybe not.
00:33:09 Anyways, next thing we got Gordon Hayward recently talked
00:33:13 about the 2019 Celtics on an episode of Paul George's podcast
00:33:17 podcast P and he basically said I might actually listen quote
00:33:22 we had all had too many agendas and the agenda to win the
00:33:25 whole thing wasn't the main one which anybody who watched
00:33:29 that team like you could see it on the court, but I don't
00:33:33 know I it's gear set this to me on Twitter.
00:33:36 That was the first like thing.
00:33:38 I saw it from and he was like, I hope Gordon comes back.
00:33:41 Eventually.
00:33:42 I think he gets a bad rep and I kind of agree.
00:33:43 I don't think he got really a fair shake in Boston.
00:33:45 I think he was pretty good when he was healthy.
00:33:47 It's just the teams underperformed.
00:33:49 And so he was always kind of the scapegoat but it did suck
00:33:53 that he was hurt a lot of the time.
00:33:55 He missed the birth of a child for the Celtics.
00:33:59 Yes.
00:33:59 How can anyone be like this guy didn't care?
00:34:02 He missed he missed a child birth to play in the Easter
00:34:07 Conference finals.
00:34:08 What how how I never understood that like it wasn't great
00:34:14 that he left because there was a lot of like if he sticks
00:34:17 around it's gonna be nice to have that salary.
00:34:19 It'll have like a new like a slot in the cap slot, whatever
00:34:23 and it sucked.
00:34:24 They went to Charlotte.
00:34:25 It kind of hurt them in the 21 season.
00:34:26 They definitely missed the Gordon Hayward piece.
00:34:28 They never had anybody that could really fill it but at the
00:34:31 same time like what do you want out of him?
00:34:34 He had a gruesome injury in his debut.
00:34:37 Obviously the whole season was chalked from there.
00:34:40 Never played again.
00:34:41 Second season.
00:34:41 He's coming back into this shit show of a team the 2019
00:34:44 team with Kyrie run around and in his defense.
00:34:47 He played 72 games that season.
00:34:49 He was healthy.
00:34:51 So he was healthy and I think the one time he wasn't healthy
00:34:54 was LaMarcus Aldridge hit him with a screen.
00:34:56 He like hurt his hand or something.
00:34:57 Maybe that was a year after could be wrong.
00:34:59 Was that Kemba?
00:35:00 I thought that was Kemba.
00:35:01 No, no, no that it might it was both.
00:35:03 It might have been both.
00:35:04 I think it was the year after Kemba got hurt but Hayward
00:35:06 hurt himself hitting Aldridge the year after he only played
00:35:09 52 games.
00:35:10 So that would make sense.
00:35:11 But I mean the man missed a childbirth dude, like anybody
00:35:16 that's like Hayward was, you know, this or that or he he
00:35:20 was a bad Celtic like yeah, he wasn't the same guy after
00:35:24 he got hurt and it sucked.
00:35:25 He chose to come here which rules I always appreciate any
00:35:28 player that decides to come to the Celtics.
00:35:30 I think it's a really really great thing.
00:35:32 And so Al Horford needs a shout out because he was kind
00:35:34 of the first one to do it in this generation of players.
00:35:36 But anytime someone's like, yes, I would like to play for
00:35:39 the Celtics.
00:35:40 That's a big thing in the NBA for a while.
00:35:43 The Celtics weren't getting free agents.
00:35:45 They just started over the last decade and Hayward coming
00:35:49 here was a big part of that.
00:35:51 That team was supposed to really be competitive.
00:35:54 I know he talked about with Paul George like they always
00:35:56 think about like what could have been and he kind of said
00:35:58 like this year's team feels like a almost closure type thing
00:36:04 with that where it's like, okay.
00:36:05 Yes.
00:36:06 This is probably what we could have had.
00:36:07 Yeah, this is what it should have been.
00:36:09 Yeah, it didn't work out.
00:36:10 Unfortunately, what in the agenda thing is probably very
00:36:14 true.
00:36:14 Like his agenda was probably trying to make sure he was
00:36:17 right and he wanted to make sure he got his looks and then
00:36:19 you have Taylor Brown who are coming off this big time playoff
00:36:22 run where they're both the stars and they're ready to prove
00:36:25 themselves and Kyrie's back and Kyrie's trying to get a good
00:36:30 season in before he's a free agent.
00:36:31 There's all that stuff going on.
00:36:33 Horford's also got the free agents thing and then of course
00:36:36 Terry Rozier big part of the playoff run.
00:36:38 He has to come off the bench.
00:36:40 Yeah, just a weird thing.
00:36:42 I think that's the difference between this team and that
00:36:47 team is that there is more homegrown stuff going on here
00:36:51 than that time.
00:36:52 Yes, Taylor Brown are still the same centerpieces and Rozier
00:36:55 was a key part of that.
00:36:57 But now the stars are homegrown.
00:36:59 The top guys are homegrown and I think that goes a long way
00:37:02 because they are someone or faces that the other guys look
00:37:06 to in terms of leadership and they have this Celtic way about
00:37:12 them.
00:37:12 Maybe I agree with Horford who technically is a transplant,
00:37:16 but he has played more years in a Celtics uniform than KG.
00:37:20 And then the rest like I don't know a lot of shake up this
00:37:26 year, but the guys they added are mature and the newer faces
00:37:30 on that Celtic team were not as mature.
00:37:32 Brown Tatum evidently so evidently so Mark.
00:37:38 Yeah, Gordon just said the the part everybody knew out loud,
00:37:43 but all right, let's go to the email now.
00:37:45 Let's see what people had to say in the email here.
00:37:48 Do the email?
00:37:49 I'll do the background.
00:37:50 Let's show you.
00:37:50 Yes, sir.
00:37:51 I did not all you.
00:37:53 All right first email we got from RJ.
00:37:55 This is from the 30th.
00:37:57 What's popping?
00:37:57 It's hard being the man.
00:37:59 Happy Saturday guys thinking about the last two games and
00:38:01 Pistons Raptors led me to a new article on Celtics blog and
00:38:04 what production and what it means to a production to keep
00:38:08 playing without your leads.
00:38:09 It's a pretty short post.
00:38:12 So we'll read it.
00:38:13 I just had to check both pistons and Raptors.
00:38:15 Games are great for highlighting some things you didn't notice
00:38:17 until you are until they aren't there against Detroit.
00:38:20 The absent of JB from the game showed his importance in the
00:38:22 defensive rotations as it took 24 minutes to figure out how
00:38:24 to debate defend Kate Cunningham effectively Chris stops may
00:38:27 have missed his carpool buddy in the first two quarters as
00:38:29 well. Only scoring six points before intermission.
00:38:31 Everyone plays a part against Toronto.
00:38:33 We're all expecting Derek white to step up a table and
00:38:35 present gets out and while I got there eventually, it's hard
00:38:37 to be the man, especially when the man 1.0 isn't on the floor
00:38:39 attracting attention away from you oddly enough.
00:38:42 I think the best player to help out prison gets white and
00:38:44 the rest excuse me get better at being in the spotlight is
00:38:47 Luke Cornette.
00:38:48 Luke does Luke things regardless of who's on the floor or
00:38:50 whether he gets a ball and that's an important lesson when
00:38:51 it's your turn to lead.
00:38:52 You don't have things you aren't comfortable with just stay
00:38:54 focused on things on doing things that keep you and your
00:38:57 teammates in their comfort zones.
00:38:58 I'll become curious to see who incorporates that approach
00:39:01 to their game first.
00:39:02 I will say I think this is part of what we talked about on
00:39:04 talking C's where it's tough to be the guy and I think Tatum
00:39:08 doesn't get enough help from the rest of the team in that
00:39:11 sense, but yeah, I mean sure I like all the points.
00:39:14 I mean when you say like that Tatum doesn't get enough help.
00:39:17 I somebody can't on it like Twitter would be like, what
00:39:20 do you mean Tatum doesn't have enough help?
00:39:22 They don't get him enough looks that he's too self-reliant
00:39:26 and I don't know.
00:39:27 They got to utilize him a little different like they got
00:39:29 to kind of utilize a lot of these guys equally where they're
00:39:32 just getting looks as a product of ball movement.
00:39:35 Yeah, I agree and I think they did better in that Spurs
00:39:37 game.
00:39:38 You saw a lot more movement with Tatum at the recipient
00:39:40 is great evening and Tatum starts the Spurs game is awesome.
00:39:43 I didn't get to see the third quarter missed a lot of it
00:39:45 when I got back.
00:39:46 I saw his five or ten from three.
00:39:48 So I'd imagine there were some super cool dribbles somewhere
00:39:51 in there, but when the game was closed in the first half
00:39:54 looks like he was playing for real.
00:39:56 So good for him and good for the staff for figuring out
00:39:59 how to get him looks without him having to do it all.
00:40:01 Agree good game next one.
00:40:04 What's popping three things for the green Cornet haters
00:40:07 from RJ morning guys.
00:40:09 Thank you for the kind thoughts about the emails.
00:40:11 I keep writing them because you to do such enjoyable work
00:40:13 now that I've been kind.
00:40:14 Let me unload for a minute to everyone who's having a hissy
00:40:17 that Luke did well at his spot start three things first.
00:40:20 Who would you rather see at the end of the Celtics bench
00:40:22 Luke or the NASA Santa to go both?
00:40:24 That's what I thought shut up second to whoever it is
00:40:27 that bitched about Luke not being able to do it in the playoffs
00:40:29 go search YouTube for Leon Poe 2008 watch it and shut up.
00:40:32 Finally, you're really going to complain about Luke doing
00:40:35 smart things and going 9 of 11 the night after Killian Hayes
00:40:38 conducted a dumbass a clinic in dumbass basketball.
00:40:41 Have you ever entertained the thought of paying attention
00:40:43 during a basketball game instead of just scrolling for the
00:40:45 Pat score or Red Sox trader?
00:40:47 We just don't answer that just shut up like that.
00:40:49 The C's don't need Luke to be the second coming of Dave
00:40:52 Cowens. They need him to be ready hit his marks and not
00:40:54 suck what she does.
00:40:55 Plus he seems like a pretty good human being rattles to
00:40:58 everyone who can't appreciate the good things like having
00:41:00 both Luke and Nimi be well in the new year.
00:41:01 RJ.
00:41:02 I mean, yes, great RJ man.
00:41:04 Yes, we've said this a million times.
00:41:06 I couldn't agree more RJ.
00:41:07 Absolutely, and I don't get anybody being mad that like
00:41:10 corner had a good game.
00:41:11 Like what is bad about that?
00:41:13 It was crazy.
00:41:14 One thing that could be bad about corn having a people
00:41:16 focused on his poor defensive rotations and defensive play
00:41:21 in the fourth quarter, but like let's not act like the
00:41:23 Celtics have much of another choice.
00:41:25 Like who else did you want to see them play in that spot?
00:41:27 They played with the guys they had because they were missing
00:41:29 half their fucking starting lineup.
00:41:30 Come on, we do it.
00:41:33 But now yeah, I agree.
00:41:34 Leave Luke alone.
00:41:35 He's a third string big.
00:41:36 He does his job.
00:41:37 What's popping the ball dropped on San Antonio.
00:41:40 As I write this, it is less than an hour from 2024 on the
00:41:44 East Coast in three hours, 40 minutes here in San Francisco.
00:41:47 And no, that's not a typo in the subject line.
00:41:49 The New Year's ball dropped early and it fell squarely on
00:41:52 this first tonight part from everyone in green having a great
00:41:55 game.
00:41:55 It was interesting to see how the Celtics defused one B's
00:41:57 defensive contributions in the first half with Porzingis out
00:42:00 away from the basket.
00:42:01 When Boniambo is not clogging the middle making it a lot
00:42:03 easier for the C's to get points in the paint.
00:42:05 Tatum and Cornette each had more blocks than he did to each
00:42:07 to one B's one as and as much fun as it was watching Derek
00:42:11 White slam dunk.
00:42:11 I think every Celtics fans held their breath for a moment
00:42:14 when we all thought Derek might just block one Boniambo from
00:42:16 behind for a split second.
00:42:18 Well, fun game.
00:42:19 Nice to see us beat up on a lottery team to close out 2023
00:42:22 20 games over 500.
00:42:23 Of course, today's real star was the main Celtics flannel
00:42:26 pajama uniforms modeled here by Rob Edwards.
00:42:29 We looked at this happy New Year to all 2000 subscribers
00:42:32 on HBTC.
00:42:33 Be well, RJ.
00:42:34 I still like these jerseys a lot.
00:42:36 I think they're sick.
00:42:36 Yeah, I mean I'd be kind of heated if the Celtics wore
00:42:39 them, but I really care what they do up in Maine.
00:42:41 So go for it.
00:42:42 Sure.
00:42:42 All right.
00:42:44 Next email from Gerald Colston.
00:42:46 What's popping Jalen Brown's game?
00:42:48 What's up boys?
00:42:49 Hopefully everything's good since the start of the season.
00:42:51 I believe JB has been the most improved all around.
00:42:53 I mean when you look at his game the mid-range and aggressive
00:42:55 finishes are impressive.
00:42:56 I approach every game as if he's going to put someone on
00:42:58 a poster.
00:42:59 The way he approaches the game doesn't feel forced or rushed
00:43:03 anymore.
00:43:04 Do you believe he's been the most improved or do you think
00:43:05 it's someone else?
00:43:06 I think it's Jalen Brown.
00:43:07 I think he's taking the most.
00:43:08 You don't think it's Derek White?
00:43:09 I thought you might think it's Derek White.
00:43:11 I think Derek White is doing all the things that he showed
00:43:14 us he can do in the regular season playoffs last year.
00:43:16 Just doing them more.
00:43:17 I think Jalen Brown has made fundamental improvements to
00:43:19 his game.
00:43:20 So Jalen to me is taking the biggest in-season step because
00:43:24 to start the year.
00:43:24 He didn't look great.
00:43:25 There is the weird like I don't know what I'm going to do
00:43:28 anymore.
00:43:28 Now that our team's much better and we have a lot of guys
00:43:30 that can compete and do good things, but when Porzingis went
00:43:37 out in particular, I think he really stepped it up.
00:43:39 I mean he had that really great game against Milwaukee.
00:43:42 Porzingis was in that one.
00:43:43 They had some super cool linkups.
00:43:45 Some of my favorite plays of the season so far, but I did
00:43:48 the article kind of like the duality of Jalen Brown where
00:43:51 like he's really really great against Milwaukee.
00:43:52 Then he was terrible against Orlando in the second half and
00:43:55 was a almost symbol of how they got beat down.
00:43:58 Since that Orlando game, he has been absolutely nails.
00:44:02 He has been efficient.
00:44:04 He's been careful.
00:44:05 He's been decisive.
00:44:07 Everything he's done has been positive.
00:44:10 It feels like there aren't a lot of games where you see him
00:44:12 out there and you're like, maybe he just needs to realize
00:44:15 it's not his night.
00:44:16 That just doesn't happen.
00:44:17 He's been on.
00:44:18 He's done a great job of getting out and getting going
00:44:20 early in the games.
00:44:21 The first quarters from him have been unreal and I think
00:44:24 that's a really great place for him on this team.
00:44:26 It's a great part for him to be a tone setter because Tatum
00:44:30 is not a guy that gets going early.
00:44:32 He's not traditionally.
00:44:34 It's been Brown.
00:44:35 It's very rare to see a big Tatum first quarter.
00:44:38 Those are the days where Tatum is going to have like a
00:44:40 50 ball.
00:44:40 If he's giving it to you in the first quarter, watch out
00:44:42 as for Brown.
00:44:44 He's very very important to the team as a whole getting
00:44:48 started getting a lead, whatever you keeping him in a game
00:44:50 if the other team's playing well, so shout out to Jalen.
00:44:54 I think we can all have a little bit more faith in him
00:44:56 and he had a good playoff last year until the Heat series.
00:44:59 He was good.
00:44:59 The numbers were good.
00:45:01 The Heat series was bad.
00:45:02 Very bad bad enough to erase your memory.
00:45:04 Yeah, Jalen big improvements this year.
00:45:07 The playmaking has been huge.
00:45:08 I mean, we've talked about it a bunch but yeah, I think
00:45:10 he's my most improved next thing.
00:45:12 We got New Year same winning teams from clay.
00:45:15 Shout out clay.
00:45:15 Happy New Year fellas with 2023 behind us.
00:45:19 I'd like you guys.
00:45:20 I'd like to I assume this means thank you guys for the
00:45:23 quality content you put out of the daily basis for us.
00:45:26 These junkies who very ferociously consume all content.
00:45:30 That's great.
00:45:30 Got you.
00:45:31 Thank you.
00:45:31 I got to say 26 and 6 feels pretty good.
00:45:34 Nice to see the guys do what they're supposed to against
00:45:35 a team like San Antonio and absolutely trounce them.
00:45:38 I do feel for the Spurs especially Trey Jones.
00:45:40 What cruel irony to be named Trey not be able to hit
00:45:42 one to save your life.
00:45:43 Yeesh fun debate question for you guys.
00:45:46 The same Spurs team we beat last night except with D.
00:45:48 White is their starting point guard.
00:45:49 How many games do they win?
00:45:50 Lastly, you gentlemen mentioned brackets upcoming on your
00:45:53 list show.
00:45:54 I would like to throw my hat in the ring a bracket of
00:45:56 the best boss of little guys Pritchard versus Flutie Pedroia
00:45:59 versus Barrows.
00:46:00 Maybe some Danny Woodhead action could be fun.
00:46:02 Throw it in there.
00:46:03 Thanks again.
00:46:04 Fellas.
00:46:04 Keep up the good work your homie clay.
00:46:05 Shout out clay on the brackets remind us in March and
00:46:09 we'll do it because it's March Madness.
00:46:10 So we do a bracket every pod, but we'll keep this in
00:46:13 mind.
00:46:13 I think that'd be fun as far as the D white with the
00:46:15 San Antonio Spurs.
00:46:16 I do think they win a decent amount more games.
00:46:19 They desperately need a presence at the point guard spot
00:46:23 who can do everything D white can do.
00:46:24 What are they right now?
00:46:26 What's the Spurs record?
00:46:27 They are five and whatever five and 27.
00:46:31 I'd say maybe give him five more wins make them 10 and
00:46:34 whatever maybe 12 and whatever.
00:46:36 I don't know like Derek White's awesome.
00:46:38 I don't know how significantly he makes them like improves
00:46:40 them.
00:46:41 I do think Wemby would be better by default.
00:46:44 So I I think I'd probably put them on the trying to fight
00:46:48 for the play in race rather than worst human League personally.
00:46:53 It is kind of funny that they're still terrible like they
00:46:55 didn't really go out and do a whole lot.
00:46:57 But after the draft everyone was like watch out for the
00:47:00 Spurs.
00:47:01 They started the season.
00:47:04 They were three and two and everyone's like, oh, wait a
00:47:05 second.
00:47:06 And then they just lost like 20 games.
00:47:07 Very tough.
00:47:10 All right, last email.
00:47:12 Gerald Colston says what's popping comparison to JT when
00:47:15 we look at somebody like JT is skills are very impressive.
00:47:18 Everyone loves to compare him to maybe Danny Granger or
00:47:20 Kobe.
00:47:21 However, I believe a skill set is more like Carmelo Anthony
00:47:23 their numbers are very similar.
00:47:25 Their numbers are very similar for regular season stats.
00:47:28 I believe they also have the mentality of I'm going to
00:47:30 get mine now and they shouldn't in some instances.
00:47:32 No diss to JT at all.
00:47:33 I believe he's trying to translate his game to being a
00:47:35 better offensive facilitator.
00:47:36 This article you could see the numbers are somewhat similar
00:47:39 appreciate you boys.
00:47:39 Look at best season stats slash regular season stats.
00:47:42 Let's see where we look in here regular season stats.
00:47:47 Listen, I understand the comparison.
00:47:51 Tatum is a better player than Mello ever was and I stand
00:47:53 on that.
00:47:54 He's a million times better as a defender.
00:47:56 He's better as a playmaker.
00:47:58 He's a better offensive hub and for all the faults of his
00:48:00 threes.
00:48:01 I don't think it's as bad as it ever was with Mello.
00:48:04 Maybe Mello was a better isolation score.
00:48:06 Jason Tatum doesn't need to be that and he's a better defender
00:48:08 and he's a better playmaker than Mello ever was.
00:48:12 I think Tatum is better than Carmelo Anthony ever was right
00:48:15 now.
00:48:16 So I think if you went right now.
00:48:18 Took Mello's peak his best season and you put it up against
00:48:23 Tatum's best season or even like this year the difference in
00:48:28 assists would be crazy.
00:48:29 The reason why Tatum's career assists is low 3.4.
00:48:33 So you spent a couple years not being a hub not being somebody
00:48:38 that they go to for huge parts of their offenses usage rate
00:48:43 was not as high.
00:48:44 Now that he's become a focal point of Boston's game plan.
00:48:47 The ball is zipping around and he does have a part in it.
00:48:51 It's not perfect, but he has a good job making reads.
00:48:54 He's good on the drive has his head on a swivel for kicks
00:48:57 when he plays out of the post.
00:48:58 He's great at drawing a double and then hitting the open man.
00:49:01 These are things I don't really think you would see a lot
00:49:04 from Mello Mello averaged over four assists once Jason Tatum
00:49:09 has averaged over four assists for the past four seasons.
00:49:12 So yeah, there's your answer.
00:49:14 But I mean, it's interesting.
00:49:16 I get it.
00:49:17 Jason Tatum has won more playoff games in Mello already.
00:49:20 I would assume right?
00:49:21 I don't think that's is that true?
00:49:23 I don't actually really hurt yourself.
00:49:24 They're really going on a limb.
00:49:26 Well, I don't know.
00:49:28 I think it's closer than you might realize.
00:49:30 It's not close.
00:49:31 Let me take a look playoff games has Jason Tatum one Tatum
00:49:35 has won 52 playoff games.
00:49:38 Carmelo has won 28 playoff games.
00:49:43 You're right.
00:49:43 Not close.
00:49:44 So there's that.
00:49:46 All right, let's head on over to the NBA section.
00:49:49 Actually.
00:49:50 Sorry before we do that.
00:49:52 Let's play a little game very briefly from this book Celtics
00:49:57 Legends alphabet.
00:49:58 Let's see if Sam can guess the second letter.
00:50:00 It's bird back to South next real quick.
00:50:02 See for bird be wrong.
00:50:08 Really?
00:50:09 Yeah, incorrect.
00:50:10 Try again.
00:50:10 Is it Brad?
00:50:14 Wrong.
00:50:15 Bill Russell.
00:50:16 Yeah, as Mr.
00:50:18 Bill Russell is the answer.
00:50:20 There's Bill on the B for you.
00:50:21 Very cool.
00:50:22 Draw drawing.
00:50:23 Excuse me.
00:50:24 B is Phil Barus.
00:50:25 So the greatest winning winner in the NBA history Russell
00:50:28 amassed 11 NBA championships during his 13 year Celtics
00:50:30 career.
00:50:31 He's second all time in that NBA career rebounds a five-time
00:50:34 MVP 12 time All-Star and considered the greatest defensive
00:50:37 player in the history of the sport.
00:50:38 A true Celtics legend P is for Bill Russell.
00:50:41 There we go.
00:50:42 All right, and now let's move to the NBA part of the show
00:50:46 with a new segment that we are going to call did the Hornets
00:50:50 win again Hornets win a game.
00:50:53 We've moved on for the Pistons.
00:50:55 The Pistons have escaped and unfortunately the Hornets are
00:50:58 not a focus points 10 losses in a row for the Hornets.
00:51:02 Let's see.
00:51:03 Do they have a chance to break it soon?
00:51:05 Let me take a look who they're playing.
00:51:07 They're playing the Nuggets tonight.
00:51:08 So probably going to make it 11 past that after the Nuggets.
00:51:14 They got Sacramento than Chicago twice.
00:51:16 So those Bulls games are probably going to be their best
00:51:18 chance, but the Bulls have been good.
00:51:20 So tough sliding please.
00:51:24 Best serious Sacramento.
00:51:25 For the for the good of the NBA there should always be a 20
00:51:31 plus losing streak to keep your eyes on.
00:51:33 Yep.
00:51:34 I agree.
00:51:35 Who have the Hornets lost to in their recent games to has
00:51:37 it been anybody like any telling losses sons Lakers Clippers
00:51:41 Nuggets Pacers lost to the Raptors by 15 is pretty bad.
00:51:45 You can't lose to the Raptors that said their last win was
00:51:49 also over the Raptors.
00:51:50 So that's also pretty tough.
00:51:51 They beat the Celtics to they have beaten the Celtics, but
00:51:55 I also don't know if their streak has too much of a chance
00:52:00 of getting up to what Detroit's was or he goes to it just
00:52:04 because Lamello is going to be back at some time.
00:52:07 Is he I thought he's out for a while on these out for the
00:52:10 season.
00:52:11 Lamella ball injury.
00:52:13 Let me double check.
00:52:14 Maybe you're right.
00:52:14 Lamella tonight is he still out?
00:52:20 He's missed the last 15 games, but he's getting closer to
00:52:22 a return.
00:52:23 You see, right?
00:52:23 He'll be back eventually.
00:52:24 Yeah, like they're actually like not terrible with Lamella
00:52:28 before he got hurt.
00:52:29 They were kind of like lurking around the play in like they
00:52:31 had a chance of being there.
00:52:33 Now, I think it's dead.
00:52:34 But they yeah, I don't think they're going to lose like
00:52:39 Pistons level amount of games.
00:52:40 I don't know if it gets to 20.
00:52:42 The Hornets this season are 5 and 10 with Lamello in the
00:52:47 sense.
00:52:47 He's been out.
00:52:48 They are where's the NBA standings 5 and 10 with Lamello
00:52:52 without Lamello.
00:52:53 They are 2 and 13.
00:52:55 So pretty big difference there.
00:52:58 But yeah, all right.
00:53:00 Let's look at the rest of the NBA standings.
00:53:01 We won't spend the whole time on the Hornets, but that has
00:53:04 officially replaced our Pistons for the segment of have they
00:53:08 won yet NBA standings taking a look around real quick Celtics
00:53:12 longest win streak in the NBA currently at six games.
00:53:16 I don't think anybody else is at five.
00:53:19 I think the Celtics are leading by a decent amount.
00:53:24 The closest thing to the Celtics is four with Thunder.
00:53:29 Nuggets just lost the last game.
00:53:30 It's true.
00:53:32 One of the win streaks has to go down.
00:53:34 Sons of one three in a row.
00:53:35 They're figuring it out.
00:53:36 The Lakers Rockets and Warriors have all lost a lot of the
00:53:41 recent games.
00:53:42 They're not doing too too hot right now.
00:53:43 Lakers three and seven in the last 10.
00:53:46 That's heartbreaking.
00:53:47 Not good.
00:53:48 Warriors five and five.
00:53:50 Warriors five and five.
00:53:52 Mavs four and six slowing down a little bit as well in the
00:53:55 east of Magic and Pacers both four and six in the last 10.
00:53:58 The Nets are two and eight in their last 10.
00:54:00 They're falling down the standings.
00:54:01 Knicks won their first game with OG and Anovi today.
00:54:04 They have now won one in a row and they're in the eighth
00:54:06 seed. The Hawks are four and six in the last 10.
00:54:09 The Bulls are six and four in their last 10.
00:54:11 They're figuring it out.
00:54:12 And then the Raptors and the Wizards are both pretty tragic
00:54:15 if you ask me.
00:54:16 So there's that the box just kind of won't fuck off.
00:54:20 Will they know they're good?
00:54:23 They're real good.
00:54:23 Just one nine and one in their last 10.
00:54:25 So this just can't get any real separation two games above
00:54:29 the box.
00:54:29 Not terrible.
00:54:30 Even Philly.
00:54:30 They're starting to get a bit of a lead on four games ahead
00:54:32 of them.
00:54:33 Yeah, Philly dealt with some injuries in there.
00:54:37 It's pretty clear Celtics buck sixers than everyone else
00:54:40 right now.
00:54:40 Even the Knicks are only one and a half games out of the
00:54:42 four seed this clump of heat Magic Cavs Pacers Knicks are
00:54:46 pretty tight knit and then the Nets and the Bulls have the
00:54:49 next spot with the Hawks.
00:54:51 I guess sneaking around in there too, but past that it is
00:54:54 pretty bad magic rough four and six and last time.
00:54:58 Yeah, they've been slowing down.
00:55:00 They've been slowing down significantly that two game series
00:55:03 aides the Celtics really hit them like a truck.
00:55:05 But speaking of the Knicks as we were talking about them
00:55:08 did just make that trade for OJ and Anobi and they also
00:55:10 just extended miles McBride.
00:55:12 I think I mentioned when they made the tree we were talking
00:55:14 about it.
00:55:14 They did just win that he could potentially step up and
00:55:18 play a bigger role for them.
00:55:19 And it sounds like that's the plan three years 13 million
00:55:22 dollars.
00:55:22 All of it is guaranteed good deal for miles McBride good
00:55:27 defender.
00:55:27 He played today didn't play a ton but he's just you know,
00:55:32 a guy who can give you quality minutes at the point guard
00:55:33 spot defends.
00:55:35 Well, so Tibbs is going to like him no heart harm in giving
00:55:39 him a cheap contract like that.
00:55:41 If it's somebody you trust there is absolutely no harm in
00:55:44 it, especially the new CBA.
00:55:46 What's that roughly 4.3 million a year like that's a pretty
00:55:50 solid deal to have somebody that's a part of your rotation
00:55:53 on and it's tradable.
00:55:54 Yeah, especially if he starts playing well like teams be
00:55:57 like wait, they you could fit the tp.
00:55:59 Oh, it'd be sick.
00:56:00 Exactly right percent.
00:56:02 So good for them.
00:56:03 I guess sure.
00:56:04 There you go.
00:56:06 Lakers.
00:56:07 Meanwhile are potentially eyeing to Jaunte Murray should
00:56:11 he become available according to shams of the athletic
00:56:14 Lakers are a team are quote a team to keep an eye on as
00:56:18 a potential landing spot for Murray should he get dealt
00:56:20 and will make a lot of sense for Los Angeles.
00:56:22 Another report from Yovan Buha the Athletic saying maybe
00:56:25 you go for Royce O'Neill and Dorian Fannie Smith.
00:56:27 Those are two guys like us have an interest in however,
00:56:30 I think DeJounte Murray is the far more interesting guy
00:56:32 mostly because he'd be a guy a lot of people are going
00:56:35 after if it's the Lakers sure it makes sense.
00:56:38 But my question to you is what other teams do you think
00:56:40 could potentially look to trade for John T Murray if the
00:56:42 Hawks decide to trade this is where it gets fun, huh?
00:56:44 Yes, it does.
00:56:47 I think Brooklyn is still a great landing spot for him.
00:56:50 If they decide to keep things together, Brooklyn's not
00:56:52 bad. Forgive me if I am like missing like the most obvious
00:57:00 person ever. Orlando could kind of use a point guard, right?
00:57:04 They could use a point guard.
00:57:05 Yeah. Yeah, they've got faults, but you could I think
00:57:08 if I'm Orlando, I might start knocking on the door for
00:57:11 DeJounte Murray.
00:57:12 I would like it makes sense.
00:57:13 Yeah, they're kind of on the on the doorstep of being
00:57:16 competitive. They've had a rough stretch since the hot
00:57:18 start and they could certainly use a little bit of somebody
00:57:22 that's been around the block on their roster because they
00:57:25 don't have a ton of that.
00:57:26 I think he would be a fun fit.
00:57:29 It would be somebody I root for.
00:57:30 Let's see who else is there.
00:57:32 You want to know what would be annoying but very very makes
00:57:35 a lot of sense.
00:57:36 Who I am me Miami.
00:57:40 I mean, there is a better guy to play off the ball.
00:57:45 You know, I mean like he's not like Trey young where you'd
00:57:47 be putting Murray next to another guard.
00:57:49 That's going to need the exactly you put him at the point
00:57:51 guard you.
00:57:52 Excuse me.
00:57:53 You trade Lowry and or Duncan Robinson with picks and maybe
00:57:56 you throw in yo bitch or Highsmith or something and you
00:58:01 go out and get Murray and you run DeJounte Murray Tyler
00:58:04 hero.
00:58:05 Jaime Hawkins Jimmy Butler Pam in a bio.
00:58:07 That's kind of gross.
00:58:09 That's that's kind of a very good line up, especially
00:58:11 considering Miami.
00:58:12 You trained at the Robinson right now for DeJounte Murray.
00:58:15 Yeah.
00:58:16 I mean John DeMaria shooting a career-high 38% from three
00:58:21 on six attempts a night.
00:58:22 So yeah, you are I am.
00:58:25 They don't know.
00:58:26 I'm going to Robinson's been a big big help for them this
00:58:29 year.
00:58:29 He's been great but playing like himself is huge.
00:58:32 Yeah, Miami be annoying.
00:58:34 I'm just trying to flip through the rest of the teams.
00:58:36 Milwaukee.
00:58:37 No, why if Dane?
00:58:41 Yeah, I think you play both get some size some defense in
00:58:44 there.
00:58:45 It's a little bit Atlanta.
00:58:46 I think it's different.
00:58:50 They are different.
00:58:50 I think it's a little different but we try to have having
00:58:53 their ball in their hands and enough Dame or Dame but Dame
00:58:58 but you get both I think and it's not like James not used
00:59:01 to playing with another guy who needs the ball.
00:59:02 Sometimes he's played with CJ for years.
00:59:04 I don't think it's perfect but I think it's it's not terrible.
00:59:07 You know, I changed my mind.
00:59:09 I have a new perfect spot and it's Minnesota.
00:59:12 That'd be electric in 2k save.
00:59:15 I did that trade good good trade.
00:59:18 It would be tough to make the money work.
00:59:22 You'd have to throw in a few different salaries.
00:59:24 You could probably get there with Kyle Anderson shake Milton
00:59:27 and the gila Alexander Walker.
00:59:29 I think would get you there.
00:59:30 But like you get that done.
00:59:33 The issue is you don't really have the pics because you don't
00:59:37 have any pics.
00:59:38 So that might be where excuse me where deal gets halted.
00:59:42 Because Timberwolves don't even pick the trade and you can
00:59:46 trade some swaps but not much going on there.
00:59:49 No.
00:59:51 I don't even remember.
00:59:55 I was going to say, oh, there's I don't think the salary
00:59:57 works and there's no way it would happen.
01:00:00 Phoenix should just trade Bradley Beal for John T.
01:00:05 Murray.
01:00:05 There was no salary cap.
01:00:08 Well, you could trade Beal for just on T.
01:00:11 Murray and like Deandre Hunter and then give up pics as well
01:00:17 or something.
01:00:17 Do that.
01:00:18 I've done.
01:00:18 But yeah, the issue is they don't have one.
01:00:21 X.
01:00:21 Yeah, it literally zero picks that it can be trade.
01:00:24 I don't know.
01:00:28 I would have said the Clippers before the James Harden trade.
01:00:31 It doesn't really make sense now.
01:00:33 I mean, you could still do it, but you don't need it.
01:00:37 I wouldn't hate it for the Paisley's kind of an awkward fit
01:00:39 because Halbert needs the ball in his hands, but like they
01:00:42 did defense in a bad bad way, but still not great next anymore.
01:00:46 Like point cards just not the pelicans.
01:00:51 You move.
01:00:52 Tell him this is what I could see you move CJ back off the
01:00:55 ball and then you bring in John T.
01:00:58 Murray.
01:00:58 I just wonder what you'd give up for it.
01:01:01 Like what would they want?
01:01:02 You probably have to get out there Jones at very least.
01:01:05 Well, no, I wouldn't do that.
01:01:07 Kings know the math.
01:01:11 No Lakers.
01:01:12 We just talked about it.
01:01:13 If Red Van Fleet wasn't there, it's excuse me.
01:01:16 Say the Rockets were good.
01:01:17 Wonder if the jazz would do it.
01:01:20 You get a real point card in there next to Laurie.
01:01:22 Take a flip some of the pics.
01:01:26 You've got get a real player.
01:01:28 I don't hate it for the jazz, but I don't know.
01:01:31 I think it makes most sense for the heat as annoying as it
01:01:33 would be.
01:01:36 Anyways, all right last NBA thing.
01:01:39 We've got is the Knicks are not targeting Donovan Mitchell.
01:01:42 I repeat.
01:01:43 They're not Sam.
01:01:44 I swear.
01:01:44 They're not targeting to Mitchell Mark Stein Steinlein reported
01:01:49 that the Knicks quote do not intend to Mount an all-out
01:01:51 pursuit of Mitchell ahead of the trade deadline this year.
01:01:53 Also the Cavaliers for that matter signaled to rival teams
01:01:56 throughout December that they aren't prepared to entertain
01:01:58 Mitchell overtures.
01:01:59 Anyways, so you asked me what the point of this reporting
01:02:02 is. I don't know.
01:02:05 I don't know what the purpose of all this is.
01:02:07 I just saw it and what means the cat.
01:02:09 I think the cast part of this is more valuable.
01:02:11 It's like like I guess they really think he's in a stick
01:02:14 around or opt-in next summer.
01:02:15 Huh?
01:02:15 Do you think so?
01:02:16 No, you think he's gone?
01:02:21 Yeah, I just don't think he wants to be there.
01:02:24 Do you know what is the og at an ob trade?
01:02:29 If you think about it from that perspective, you're like,
01:02:31 okay, so they're trying to make a team to bring down a
01:02:33 Mitchell in a free agency.
01:02:35 Right?
01:02:37 Yeah, I mean it makes sense.
01:02:38 Jalen Brunson Donovan Mitchell og at an ob is disgusting.
01:02:42 That's a great top three.
01:02:43 That's a title top three.
01:02:45 I think certainly up there there.
01:02:48 They're in the realm of have a chance.
01:02:49 It's still not competing with the Celtics and Bucks, but
01:02:52 it is puts them in that.
01:02:53 Like I think they're competitive.
01:02:55 I just think I almost think that's like a weird like almost
01:03:00 Ajante Murray fit of like, oh no, I know Donovan Mitchell
01:03:03 is not a point guard type, but he does still like have the
01:03:07 ball a good amount and so is Darius Garland.
01:03:10 That's part of the reason like the cabs haven't been like
01:03:12 spectacular particularly in playoffs like so I understand
01:03:17 where there's an extra another smaller guard and I understand
01:03:20 but there's too many.
01:03:21 There's too many talented guards for you to avoid some of
01:03:23 those fits around the league.
01:03:24 Like there you're not going to not pick up like you're going
01:03:26 to go into a point where everybody has a really great guy
01:03:29 who needs the ball and then what does not Tamar is a free
01:03:31 agent and no one wants him because it wouldn't work.
01:03:33 You just kind of have to figure it out.
01:03:35 I know but like almost every team in the league has a ball
01:03:39 dominant guard right now.
01:03:40 There's like two and Donovan Mitchell's not signed with
01:03:42 them. I just like this is a trade.
01:03:46 This is not what's a trade.
01:03:49 I'm talking about their setting up to try to sign.
01:03:52 Oh to try and court him in free agency.
01:03:54 Yes.
01:03:55 Okay, that's a little different.
01:03:57 Sorry.
01:03:59 I mean, I still stand by it.
01:04:02 I think it's like kind of a weird fit.
01:04:03 I don't know if you're going to get the most out of it, but
01:04:05 if you're not like giving anybody up to get him like sure
01:04:08 you can try.
01:04:09 Yeah, you try to clear the space now and then you go after
01:04:11 him. But all right, that was about it.
01:04:14 Let's get into the rat list here saying would you like to
01:04:16 kick us off?
01:04:17 Oh, would I rat list is people that say Happy New Year's
01:04:23 instead of New Year?
01:04:24 Lots of messages going around or posts on social where people
01:04:29 are saying Happy New Year's with an S.
01:04:32 I hate to break it to you.
01:04:34 But actually what people should be saying is Happy New Year
01:04:37 because the New Year has arrived.
01:04:39 It is happy.
01:04:39 I know.
01:04:39 I know the thought is what we're talking about New Year's
01:04:42 Eve or New Year's Day, but like yeah, but still no, no, just
01:04:47 not correct.
01:04:47 Happy New Year.
01:04:48 Correct.
01:04:49 Yes, rat lists all the slow drivers that I ran into today
01:04:55 was very annoying.
01:04:56 Wasn't a big fan.
01:04:57 I came home today after being on Boston yesterday.
01:05:01 And I hit the highway and everyone decided to go under
01:05:04 the speed limit and I was not too pleased.
01:05:06 Very simple rat list.
01:05:07 That's all there is to it.
01:05:09 But it just really pissed me off and I wasn't a big fan also.
01:05:11 Well, actually I'll save that one.
01:05:13 I'll keep it separate rat list.
01:05:14 But yeah, the people driving home today were annoying out
01:05:18 on traffic out on people pick a lane.
01:05:21 Don't don't make a wall.
01:05:22 The people who make a wall of the worst like go around
01:05:25 wall.
01:05:25 People are terrible.
01:05:26 Yeah, bad rat list.
01:05:30 My car.
01:05:31 So my my car radio does this thing where it doesn't always
01:05:35 turn off.
01:05:36 Sure when I turn my car off.
01:05:38 So like the radio will stay on.
01:05:40 Yeah, and what happens if I go away?
01:05:42 So I went away this week and I forgot to manually shut it
01:05:46 off before I left is it'll drain my battery battery.
01:05:50 But yesterday I went I got up when I went to drive to the
01:05:53 gym and I got my car turns.
01:05:56 I am like, okay, I'm a gas.
01:05:57 I go to the gas station.
01:05:58 I shut off at the pump pump my car and then all of a sudden
01:06:02 it's not turning on.
01:06:03 So I had this whole ordeal like had to jump it.
01:06:06 My daddy used to work with cars.
01:06:07 So like we have a little bit of a discussion of what's going
01:06:11 on and what he thinks and things like that.
01:06:14 Anyway, he takes it because we finally get to restart.
01:06:18 We swap cars.
01:06:19 I go about my day.
01:06:20 I come home apparently like it's been working.
01:06:23 Okay, like he took it out.
01:06:24 So I bring it with me last night.
01:06:27 Go Providence, you know, like drive around a little bit wake
01:06:32 up this morning.
01:06:32 I go to move my car from where it was parked around to the
01:06:37 front of the building works.
01:06:40 Fine.
01:06:40 Shut it off.
01:06:41 And I'm like, oh wait, no, I didn't turn off my radio.
01:06:43 I don't want to risk this and then I go to turn it on.
01:06:45 So I turn off the radio.
01:06:46 It will not start but then then 10 minutes later decides it
01:06:50 wants to start.
01:06:51 Yeah, but how old your car?
01:06:53 1994.
01:06:55 It's time.
01:06:56 It's it's it's going to be time soon.
01:06:59 I like my car man.
01:07:01 It is.
01:07:01 I don't want to waste money on a car.
01:07:03 If I already have a car.
01:07:04 It is 30 years old.
01:07:07 I'm not saying you need to do it now.
01:07:08 I'm not saying years old.
01:07:09 I haven't had this whole time.
01:07:11 We got had like no miles on.
01:07:12 I'm saying the car is 30 years old.
01:07:14 Yeah, I know.
01:07:15 I'm not saying it needs to happen but the car is telling
01:07:19 giving you signs that it is almost time.
01:07:23 I am I use to drive.
01:07:25 Yeah, I know I used to drive the oldest car I had was an
01:07:28 oh nine and I drove that for a few years past that.
01:07:31 I just well, it wasn't a flex.
01:07:34 I was in my car.
01:07:35 I is nothing wrong with the car.
01:07:36 I've been in your car.
01:07:36 It's a fine car.
01:07:37 It's just getting to time is all I'm saying ratless.
01:07:41 These two people that were walking in front of us last
01:07:42 night me and Danny were walking from the tea stop.
01:07:46 We went to the liquor store.
01:07:47 Then we're going to the apartment that we were going
01:07:48 to hang out at walking whatever these two people in front
01:07:52 of us were walking very slow.
01:07:53 And so we were just you know, we were no we were we were
01:07:59 effectively like about to go around them or whatever and
01:08:02 then they just stopped they stopped.
01:08:04 Let's know ready.
01:08:05 It gets worse.
01:08:06 They stopped move to the side.
01:08:09 Let us walk past them and then kept walking behind us.
01:08:12 They just they let us pass them but they did it in like
01:08:15 the most awkward way.
01:08:16 They could possibly let us pass them just like go single
01:08:20 file keep walking and let us go or just like scooch over
01:08:23 to the side.
01:08:23 Don't dead.
01:08:24 Stop go to the side stare at us while we pass you and
01:08:28 then walk behind us.
01:08:29 You're the assholes here.
01:08:30 Not us.
01:08:31 Have mace for that.
01:08:32 Like what are we doing?
01:08:33 Mace the worst just the worst that pissed me off yesterday.
01:08:37 It was weird.
01:08:38 So ratless this pizza place.
01:08:42 I went to yesterday.
01:08:43 Yeah, I like this place.
01:08:45 I went I got a sandwich.
01:08:48 I love the sandwich.
01:08:49 But anyways, I call ahead.
01:08:51 I order for pickup.
01:08:52 So I go in to pick it up and everybody in their mother
01:08:57 decided they would like some pizza tonight.
01:08:59 So the line is out the door the problem and the reason why
01:09:02 this is on the rat list is because they do not have two
01:09:05 separate lines for pickup in ordering.
01:09:08 So I'm fucking standing there as I was going to say Joey,
01:09:13 but then I don't want to be Joey spatula will say Jimmy
01:09:17 is sitting there trying to say which fucking type of pizza
01:09:20 he would like the one with the vegetables or pepperoni's
01:09:24 like only what's that one?
01:09:25 Oh, what's that one?
01:09:26 And I've already called in put in my order.
01:09:28 All I need to do is pay and leave.
01:09:30 They need to have separate lines for that.
01:09:33 It was a big waste of time.
01:09:34 There was no order.
01:09:35 They eventually were like who's next and like nobody said
01:09:39 anything and I clearly was not next but I was like, oh,
01:09:41 yeah, like I'm just picking up and they were like, okay,
01:09:43 and then I got out of there but there were like mad people
01:09:47 like these people like see in front of us like I don't know.
01:09:49 Yeah, I don't know man.
01:09:51 Like they should have this is where you order.
01:09:53 This is where you pick up.
01:09:54 I went in like there's two doors.
01:09:57 There's like a there's like a entrance way and on one side.
01:10:00 There's a door on the other side.
01:10:01 There's a door and on the left side.
01:10:02 That's where all the people were lined up out of I went
01:10:04 in the right side because I was like, oh, there's no way
01:10:06 all these people are waiting for pickup and there were
01:10:09 some people waiting for pickup.
01:10:10 So very poor very very poor from the pizza establishment.
01:10:14 Yeah, like the food being great.
01:10:15 That's bad.
01:10:17 Rattless this dude at McDonald's.
01:10:19 So we were hungry last night.
01:10:20 So we went to McDonald's and you'll know this type of person
01:10:24 as soon as I say it and they're the worst just full blaring
01:10:28 speaker in the backpack, dude.
01:10:29 No one needs to listen to your music.
01:10:32 No, no, it like you know, one needs to listen to what you're
01:10:34 listening to.
01:10:34 He wasn't even playing.
01:10:35 He wasn't even playing music.
01:10:36 He's just playing beats that he clearly made and they were
01:10:39 bad.
01:10:40 That's why he was doing it.
01:10:41 I know but then he just started playing real music.
01:10:43 So like he was just like he can see it on a playlist.
01:10:46 It was bad like dude, you're in a tiny McDonald's with
01:10:49 hella people waiting.
01:10:50 They have music playing in the back.
01:10:52 We can hear your music.
01:10:54 My ears are bleeding.
01:10:55 No like turn it off.
01:10:57 So if you go into a building and they're the worst they're
01:11:01 bad on the street.
01:11:01 They're bad in the T stations, but in a confined space in
01:11:04 a building fuck you turn it off.
01:11:07 It's so bad.
01:11:08 That's that's on that list is my work fantasy football league.
01:11:12 My work fantasy football league.
01:11:14 I'm in the championship.
01:11:16 Sure.
01:11:16 And as anybody that may like football knows we just passed
01:11:23 week 17.
01:11:24 There's one week remaining in the season.
01:11:26 Now anybody that is into fantasy football would know typically
01:11:32 you don't have any fantasy implications on the last week.
01:11:36 You know why people get benched because they sit people.
01:11:39 Yep.
01:11:40 My work League the championship game is two weeks long.
01:11:45 So my 23 point lead is meaningless right now and I have
01:11:51 to hope I pick the right guys who aren't going to sit on Sunday.
01:11:55 This is a catastrophe and I may lose $200 because of this who
01:12:01 you play in just somebody that we would know.
01:12:02 Yeah, even if I gave you the name what is that going to do?
01:12:07 I know I wasn't sure.
01:12:08 I mean, I know some people you work with that's why I asked.
01:12:13 Oh, I'm thinking it like other people from your people from
01:12:17 your old work is oh, you know what?
01:12:19 Rat list my friends.
01:12:22 Hmm.
01:12:23 This is an ongoing rat list.
01:12:25 This is the one thing in my life that truly gets under my skin
01:12:30 which sounds really funny coming from me, but a lot of it's
01:12:33 just jokes.
01:12:34 My friends who I've been friends with for like 10 12 years
01:12:38 now have a fantasy football league and they refuse to let
01:12:43 me join.
01:12:44 They refuse to let me join.
01:12:49 There have been times over the years.
01:12:52 Now.
01:12:53 I have not always wanted to be a part of it.
01:12:55 It's not me saying like fuck you.
01:12:57 I'm not going to join your league.
01:12:58 It's just been like I'm busy or like I think I was playing
01:13:01 high school basketball one time.
01:13:03 I wasn't really sure sure sure ball like there have been
01:13:05 implications for that but there have been times I've wanted
01:13:08 to join and I've made it known that I wanted to join and I
01:13:11 understand there are only a certain amount of spots but there
01:13:15 have been times that my friends have gone outside of the group
01:13:18 to find other people to put in over me into this day.
01:13:23 It is one of the things in my life that I just detest who
01:13:28 is is like Joe and Frank in them.
01:13:29 It's them but like it's other people to like it apparently
01:13:32 like Frank has been like, you'll let him play and people
01:13:34 like no because I don't like football.
01:13:38 I don't like care for football, but I like fantasy football.
01:13:41 Yeah, I put together a fantasy league this year that Jack
01:13:44 me I like playing it.
01:13:46 Yeah, that's a very funny.
01:13:50 I will say we have a fantasy league that we've had since
01:13:53 high school like one of those like a long standing ones
01:13:55 whatever and we have like added people to it.
01:13:58 We have let people yeah, but you don't want to get too many
01:14:02 teams like I do get that part too.
01:14:04 We got 12.
01:14:04 God opens up.
01:14:06 Yeah, don't go above me and get somebody that like we don't
01:14:10 even talk to somebody's not even the group chat.
01:14:13 That's bad.
01:14:14 That's ass.
01:14:15 That's a tough look.
01:14:16 That's tough one.
01:14:17 Unbelievable.
01:14:19 You are getting kind of screwed.
01:14:22 No, I'm yeah, I'm getting fucked.
01:14:25 That is very funny.
01:14:27 I don't think I have any other rattlers.
01:14:29 I think I'm good.
01:14:30 Yeah, believe it.
01:14:31 All right.
