00:00 As the race towards the complete use of low-emission prototypes in Dakar Rally by the year 2030 gains pace under the Dakar Future Programme,
00:09 a new initiative, the Mission 1000 Challenge, will be introduced in 2024.
00:14 The purpose of Mission 1000 is to test cutting-edge technologies on the Dakar's varied off-road terrain with a total of 1,000 km of special stage.
00:24 Ten vehicles, featuring electric, hydrogen-powered or hybrid engines, will debut at the Al Ula Prologue.
00:31 Although non-competitive, the challenge includes defined criteria to rigorously evaluate vehicles and engage participants, aiming to explore future technologies for tomorrow's mobility.
00:43 Competitors' main mission will be to complete the entire route to score a grand total of 100 points in the challenge and will miss out on points for each unfinished stage.
00:53 For example, if a competitor only completes 48 km of the 96 km in Stage 3, they will only yield 50% of the points at stake.
01:03 Some bonus points will be awarded following different criteria.
01:07 Drive Mode
01:09 Vehicles will be awarded extra points for driving skills depending on how their actual performances stack up against the established reference time.
01:17 Eco Mode, plus 10% over the reference time and beyond, zero points.
01:22 Normal Mode, into the reference time, five bonus points.
01:28 Sport Mode, minus 10% and under, ten bonus points.
01:33 And Fan Boost
01:36 The riders and drivers of the ten vehicles registered for Mission 1000 will get regular opportunities to tell their stories and explain the ins and outs of their tech on the Dakar's social media and digital platforms.
01:47 At the end of Week 1 and Week 2 of the rally, fans will get to vote for their favourite project.
01:53 The fan's favourite will be awarded five bonus points after each vote.
01:58 As several projects defy the Dakar off-road routes and move closer to maturity, 2030 remains the target date for all categories to be racing in low-emissions prototypes.
02:09 As forever, the Dakar is an open laboratory to test and promote tomorrow's technologies.
