00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're giving you our picks of 10 games that truly are as
00:15 close to perfect as you can get.
00:30 That isn't to say whatever games you don't see here are not good as well, these are just
00:35 the ones that struck us the most when we put this list together.
00:38 Maybe you'll see another one in the future.
00:41 Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:45 Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:50 Persona 5 Royal
00:59 The first release of Persona 5 was already tremendous, but Royal takes the cake in how
01:03 it makes everything even better.
01:13 First you have the addition of a new Phantom Thief, Kasumi Yoshizawa, who holds a certain
01:17 mystique that matches Goro Akechi.
01:20 As for gameplay, you're given a whole new palace to explore on top of an entire new
01:24 city to shop and hang around in.
01:26 Couple all this with some balance changes and additional plot points to flesh out the
01:30 story some more, and what you have is a real enhancement to a game that was already marvelous
01:35 in almost every way.
01:44 The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
02:01 In all honesty, The Witcher 3 wasn't exactly a technically polished game at release.
02:06 Regardless, it is absolutely worthy of the praise it gets.
02:20 The combat, though boasting a bit of a learning curve in its controls and UI, is immensely
02:25 satisfying once you get a grasp of it.
02:27 The world design is unfathomably vast and packed to the brim with side quests for you
02:31 to discover.
02:32 In the enemy variety, you'll rarely feel like you've fought the same fight before.
02:37 On top of that, both expansions are so good that you'll want to fork over the extra
02:41 ducats for the complete edition.
02:54 Resident Evil 4
03:04 Choosing the remake over the original would be heresy if we were talking about almost
03:08 any other video game.
03:10 The remake for RE4, though, superior in every way.
03:14 Though it may not be the exact same as the 2005 original beat for beat, it's a lot
03:18 more cohesive in its gameplay and narrative.
03:21 The story makes more sense, motives are more properly explained and fleshed out, and it
03:25 manages to strike a level of camp that keeps things fun rather than corny.
03:41 Gameplay on the other hand is drastically improved.
03:44 Finally, Leon remembers he can walk and shoot like any normal human would.
03:48 It plays better, it tells the story better, and therefore it is deserving of the perfect
03:52 scores it received from both outlets and players.
04:10 Stardew Valley
04:11 It's really hard to give a perfect score to a game where there aren't really any
04:20 stakes.
04:21 What's a video game if there's no risk for the reward?
04:24 Stardew Valley, however, is truly deserving of its perfect scores, despite being no risk
04:29 in all reward.
04:30 The reason for this is because of how it manages to be a feel-good game without being overly
04:35 cute or cozy or totally lacking in stakes.
04:38 It never goes further than an "aw shucks" when you fail to catch a fish or give someone
04:42 the wrong gift.
04:43 Instead, it gives you a wealth of activities that open the door to meeting its colorful
04:47 characters.
04:48 On top of that, the mechanics and UI never get in the way of each other.
04:52 It's all simplified to a degree where everything you see is intuitive, even if you've never
04:56 played it before.
04:57 Even if you prefer intense action games, it's hard to ignore the easygoing life Stardew
05:02 Valley proudly gives its players without a care in the world.
05:23 Last of Us has had such an overwhelming impact on the gaming industry for better and for
05:28 worse.
05:29 While many blame it for enticing devs to just make things that are more movie than game,
05:33 we have to cast that aside for a minute.
05:35 The Last of Us got its praise because of what it was doing differently at the time of its
05:39 release.
05:40 This was a story with some grit and meaning behind it where no one is really "the good
05:44 guy."
05:45 On top of that, we weren't getting too many games that cared about its story as much as
05:49 Naughty Dog did.
05:50 Yes, there were a lot of great ones, but on this level, not so much.
06:05 From the writing to the voice acting to the combat, stealth, level design, and graphical
06:10 detail, you can see the amount of passion Naughty Dog had for this game.
06:24 The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
06:28 Yeah, yeah, we all know about the Water Temple and how many people hate it and how it's
06:39 so cumbersome and blah blah blah.
06:41 Cry us a water temple.
06:43 Yes, that part of the game can be grueling if it's your first time, but how many times
06:47 have we chosen to deliberately suffer through it again and again?
06:51 How many times have some of us played Ocarina of Time?
06:54 2?
06:55 3 times?
06:56 20 even?
06:57 Why do we replay it?
06:58 It's for the world, the music, the story, the way it awakens that sense of adventure.
07:03 Every game has one level most don't look forward to, but Ocarina of Time does everything
07:09 else so well that it's hard to knock it for just a little inconvenience.
07:22 Portal 2.
07:33 We will forever cherish the very first Portal, but the sequel?
07:37 Oh god, the sequel.
07:39 Portal 2 is one of those games that truly is perfect in every way.
07:43 No puzzle feels impossible to complete on your own, and even though it can make you
07:47 feel stupid, the level design never comes off like it has some hidden nonsense you could
07:51 have never predicted.
07:53 Everything is communicated to you about what you need to do.
07:56 As for the story, Portal 2 is remarkably funny, thanks to Wheatley's idiocy and GLaDOS's
08:02 dry sarcasm.
08:03 And who can forget the legendary Lemon rant from Cave Johnson?
08:22 For a game that makes you feel dumb, it sure does like to indulge in making its own geniuses
08:27 seem dumb, too—in a fun way, of course.
08:45 Ghost of Tsushima.
08:58 The PlayStation 4 saw a lot of great titles from Sony's own studios, but Sucker Punch
09:03 truly delivered the best experience on the console.
09:06 Ghost of Tsushima was the open-world game to end all open-world games.
09:10 From side missions to storytelling to UI, it showed how you can make something immersive
09:15 and captivating without overloading the player with waypoints, notifications, currencies,
09:20 microtransactions, or realistic animations for picking up objects.
09:25 It understood from the very beginning that you are here to live in the world, fight bad
09:29 guys and take in the sights as you live out the tragic tale of Jin Sakai.
09:39 To this day, we have yet to experience an open-world game that achieves greatness on
09:43 the same level as Ghost of Tsushima.
09:57 Baldur's Gate 3.
10:13 Baldur's Gate 3 is deserving of every single ounce of praise it has received since its
10:18 launch in August 2023.
10:20 First off, you have an incredibly deep character creator that's just as flexible as you'd
10:24 expect from a Dungeons & Dragons game.
10:26 Then there's the combat system, which perfectly replicates the tabletop experience in terms
10:31 of how movement and attacks function with everyone's positions on the board.
10:35 And best of all, Baldur's Gate 3 offers a wealth of opportunities to portray your
10:40 character the way you want to and utilize various stats for skill checks.
10:45 No part of your character ever feels like it's sitting on the bench, and the game
10:49 is always inviting you to roleplay with it, not for it, which is something many RPGs struggle
10:54 to achieve.
11:07 Hades
11:20 Supergiant Games already had a history of bangers like Bastion and Transistor.
11:25 Pyre was pretty good too, but it didn't make that much of a splash.
11:28 Hades, on the other hand, is almost impossible to tear us away from.
11:32 Sure, some aren't crazy about how often certain layouts are repeated across runs.
11:36 However, the combat is way too fun to even let that get to us.
11:41 Plus, the game is packed with so much writing that it's almost impossible to hear the
11:45 same line twice.
11:59 Every encounter with a character reveals something new about Zagreus, his relationships, and
12:03 how his father runs the underworld.
12:05 In other words, there is never a dull moment in Hades, even when there really isn't much
12:10 happening.
12:22 What game do you think is deserving of its high critic and user scores?
12:26 Did it make our list?
