Huskies head coach shares his thoughts after a third consecutive defeat.
Transcript
00:00 The start of the game, even though we had a six point lead,
00:05 felt like there was something mathematically wrong. I don't know what it was.
00:10 Even though we had the lead, it felt like we were struggling a lot, our energy, our pace.
00:15 Second half we just kept telling the guys,
00:20 listen, you can't let a team like this hang around.
00:25 Same thing, start of the second half we gave the lead back almost like right away.
00:30 We kept fighting, got down late. I was proud
00:35 of our guys. We've always responded being down. Wilhelm makes a big three,
00:40 Korn makes a big three. The issue in the second half, we couldn't defend.
00:45 We couldn't keep them in front. They got in the lane,
00:50 they shot 60% from the field. There was a late play where we
00:55 felt like we had the rebound. We bobbled it, got it, and Moses picked up his fifth foul on a loose ball,
01:00 which they ended up getting two foul shots, ball out of bounds. A couple bounces
01:05 didn't bounce our way, but we've got to be better defensively
01:10 if we want to be the team we need to be. Our ball screen coverage was below
01:15 average. We didn't have protection at the rim. We got
01:20 beat in the paint again. Tip our hat off to
01:25 Oregon. They fought and they made the plays that they had to make down the stretch.
01:30 I'm not sure if you ever saw
01:35 any one thing during the course of the season, but it seems as if you guys, Troy and I know of those late game,
01:40 early game things, but this kind of felt like those early games at the Xavier game
01:45 and the Colorado State. Are you kind of still surprised at those kind of troubles?
01:50 I just believe to be a great defense team it's lock in,
01:55 it's together, and you're so connected on the defensive end. It seemed like we
02:00 carried over from the Utah game in the second half. We were spaced out.
02:05 There was no rim protection. The rotations were bad, and
02:10 we couldn't keep guys in front. We've got to be better at that.
02:15 We just have to. We can't allow offense missed shots to dictate that.
02:20 We missed 12 foul shots tonight or whatever. What did we miss? 10 foul shots, a couple one and ones.
02:25 That's going to happen. What you have to rely on. In this game
02:30 teams cannot shoot 60% and a half against you, and you expect to win,
02:35 especially in the power five level.
