We asked people in Lancashire whether they were taking part in Dry January or Veganuary this month
Transcript
00:00 Hi, I'm digital reporter Amy Seddon and today I'm going out on the streets of Lancashire
00:05 to see if anyone's taken part in Dry January or Veganuary. Let's find out!
00:10 Are you taking part in Dry January?
00:12 Yeah, I'm taking part in Dry January this year.
00:15 Is it your first time?
00:16 Yes, first time doing it.
00:17 So what made you want to do it?
00:19 I think just for my own health really. I know everyone after Christmas always says they
00:23 want to go to Germany healthy and not drink because it's quite a busy time where everyone's
00:27 about to be in the summer, everyone's drinking. I just want to do it for my own health reasons
00:31 really and just go Dry January and just feel better in myself.
00:34 Are you noticing a benefit already?
00:36 Yeah, I am. The weekend's just gone, had a nice big walk instead of being hungover and
00:41 having a drink. Just out in the fresh air and just better in my health really.
00:47 Are you finding it quite easy so far?
00:49 So far yeah, I think January's a quiet month. There's not many things going on, a lot of
00:53 people are waiting for payday so it's quite a good month to stay in and to use that time
00:58 just to maybe go to the gym or go for nice walks and just not have busy weekends, just
01:02 have a bit of a reset.
01:04 And what about Veganuary? Are you trying that this year?
01:07 It's something I'll definitely be interested in. I'm not trying it, however I do try and
01:11 incorporate a lot more veg and things instead of meat and swapping those things out for
01:15 my meals. I'm on a bit of a diet at the moment where I'm just trying to have a lot more protein
01:20 and fish. Obviously that's not vegan but that's something I've cut down on meat definitely.
01:25 Yeah so New Year's, time to try new things?
01:27 Yeah, I'm definitely interested in doing that. I think it's just the knowledge of what to
01:31 cook, making those meals and making that change but yeah, something I'll definitely be interested in.
01:36 Are you taking part in Dry January or Veganuary?
01:39 No.
01:41 No? Would you consider taking part?
01:43 I don't think I need to because I'm not really a drinker anyways and I'm a vegetarian so
01:48 it's not really relevant to me to be fair.
01:50 Would you think it's a good thing for other people to try?
01:53 Yeah, 100% yeah. I do believe that. If they've overdone it at Christmas time with alcohol,
01:59 yeah definitely.
02:00 Anyone in your life trying either of them?
02:03 My daughter possibly. If she sees this she'll kill me. She won't last.
02:11 Do you think you might try either of them in the future as a challenge?
02:15 I don't really drink that much anyways so it's not really a problem to be honest.
02:19 But Veganuary?
02:20 Yeah, yeah, yeah I would. Yeah, yeah. I believe in veganism anyways. I don't eat meat anyways.
02:28 So a month might be easier for you to test it out?
02:30 Yeah, 100% yeah. Yeah, definitely.
02:33 Are you taking part in Dry January?
02:35 Well, I'm a teetotaler. I don't drink anyway but I do think Dry January is a really good
02:40 idea. Help people to get rid of some of the excesses of the festive season. So I'm a fan
02:44 but it's not for me personally.
02:46 Do you encourage people around you to try it?
02:48 I think if I saw people I felt had indulged heavily then it would definitely be worth
02:53 mentioning, yeah.
02:54 And have you ever considered Veganuary?
02:56 I haven't I'm afraid, no.
02:58 Do you know anyone who has?
03:00 Top of my head. I'm going to say no actually. I don't think I do.
03:06 Do you think it's perhaps a newer thing?
03:08 Well, I've never heard of it until this conversation so I'm inferring from that that it's new.
03:13 Maybe in 2025.
03:15 Maybe I'm just a dinosaur.
03:16 Oh, maybe.
