00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:04 A motorist is to go on trial after denying killing a mother and son during a crash near Chesterfield.
00:10 Joshua Hill, aged 27, appeared at Derby Crown Court via video link from HMP Nottingham yesterday.
00:18 He entered not guilty pleas to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
00:23 Hill, of Wheater Road in Sheffield, was charged following a crash on the A632 Chesterfield Road at Spancar on December 9th,
00:31 involving a black BMW and a Hyundai.
00:34 The 59-year-old woman, who was travelling in the Hyundai, died at the scene.
00:39 Her son, who was 22, sadly died later at hospital after being taken there by air ambulance.
00:44 The trial date has been set for later this year, in June.
00:48 The state of the county's roads is providing to be a big issue at the moment,
00:54 with numerous readers raising concerns about the number of potholes on local roads.
00:58 We took to the streets to get your views on the current condition of our highways.
01:03 What do you think about the condition of the roads in Derbyshire and in the area and about the potholes?
01:09 Well, I don't think Derbyshire is any worse than Sheffield, but they're both bad, so, you know, France is far better.
01:17 And which areas are the worst for the potholes?
01:20 Well, the ones at 10 hours, the one going down towards Baswell, on the left-hand side.
01:26 Yeah, there's one on Lountley Green Road we have to avoid, yeah.
01:31 Yeah, everywhere you go, I mean, it's bad. I know budgets are tight, but, like the NHS, we've got to spend some money.
01:41 Roll on the election, I say.
01:43 And are there any particular potholes that are quite bad?
01:48 Everywhere. I can't single any single one out, but everywhere we go, you know, it's something that you contend with every day.
01:58 There's not many clear stretches of road without any potholes.
02:02 So, I don't know. I don't know what the answer is. I know there's budgets as budgets, but I think they've left it to such an extent
02:11 that there's so much to do now, rather than keep it on top of it as it happens. They've left it too long. It's a major job now.
02:21 I think they should do temporary repairs until they get the time to do the permanent repairs.
02:28 Is there any bad ones that you've seen?
02:30 Yeah, on the way through Glatwell, going towards Manorsfield, it's atrocious.
02:37 Oh, I'm very... literally, it's been terrible.
02:41 Wherever we go, it has been terrible.
02:46 From Mansfield to Chatswood House, on the way, I nearly damaged my car, so deep, you know.
02:58 And the walls, they covered them, so you don't even see.
03:05 So, I can't say, I can understand that they cannot repair it straight away, all this, because there are so many.
03:17 Obviously, in the near future, something needs to be done, because they are dangerous.
