00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03 A man is in critical condition in hospital following reports of an assault in Cresswell in the early hours of the morning over the weekend.
00:10 At around 1.30am on Saturday, police and paramedics were called to Elmton Road and officers found a man unconscious near to Ours Bar and Lounge.
00:19 The man, aged in his 40s, had suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
00:26 An investigation is ongoing and officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the bar that night and may have noticed any altercations or fights or saw what happened on Elmton Road in the early hours.
00:37 Police would also like to trace a van which is believed to have been driven down the road and stopped nearby at the time of the incident.
00:44 A 25-year-old man was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of assault. He has been questioned and released on police bail while enquiries continue.
00:52 Any witnesses or anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage is asked to contact Derbyshire Police.
00:59 Derbyshire County Council has offered reassurances that it has been briefing its workforce and unions over its fraught financial position after stating that redundancies cannot be ruled out as it considers how to balance an estimated £39.5 million budget shortfall.
01:15 The council has identified nearly £32 million of possible savings and efficiency plans from some of its services, but says it has also identified an additional possible saving plan of £7.5 million with what the authority refers to as a 'vacancy factor' across pay budgets.

01:34 "The recognised trade unions, including Unison, have regularly been briefed about the overall financial position and the high-level savings proposals. The Council remains committed to continuing to work both proactively and in partnership with them."
