00:14 But have you ever wondered who is the mystery person behind the costume?

00:28 From morning to evening in blazing heat or pouring rain,

00:32 this frog never fails to bring a smile to the faces of city folk.

00:36 But the cheerful exterior of this cheeky character belies a story of struggle and hard work.

00:48 Salman Abdullah, the 23-year-old behind Sogo's famed frogman,

00:53 recently welcomed FMT Lifestyle into his Chowkit home.

00:58 The middle of three children, this full-time mascot shares that his commitment to the job

01:04 is driven by the need to support his family, particularly his disabled sister.

01:24 Salman's 24-year-old sister was born with a host of health issues,

01:29 including a damaged spinal cord, a hole in the heart, cataracts and deafness.

01:34 She relies on the support from her family.

01:40 With Salman's education having ended at Standard 2,

01:44 he became a Mickey Mouse mascot at age 10 while accompanying his father Johari, a busker in KL.

02:24 Johari is proud that Salman as frogman consistently attracts

02:28 more attention than he does during his own busking performances.

02:32 Every day, Salman readies for work by packing his costume and equipment onto a trolley.

02:38 After assisting his sister into her wheelchair bed, the family sets out from their home,

02:44 braving the weather and road conditions on foot for at least 20 minutes to reach Sogo by 10am.

02:51 Once Salman dons the costume, he fully immerses himself in the character,

02:56 roaming around chasing pedestrians all day long and hoping for contributions to his donation box.
