AccuWeather's Tony Laubach reported live from Illinois on the afternoon of Jan. 12 as snow poured down at rates of several inches an hour.
Transcript
00:00 We want to head further west to that intense storm that is tracking through the Midwest too
00:05 and bringing some heavy snow and we're joined by Tony Laubach.
00:09 Tony, what are you finding now in Illinois and Iowa there?
00:13 Snowflakes that make sound when they hit you.
00:18 That is how big and heavy these snowflakes are coming down right now.
00:21 You can see here in Rock Falls, I believe is what I said it is,
00:25 the snow falls and it feels like rocks because these are big snowflakes.
00:29 But this is light compared to what I saw just off to the east here.
00:33 Check out just how incredibly heavy this snow was coming down.
00:38 This is rates, folks. We're talking 2 to 3 inches per hour.
00:42 And in some areas, it is snowing that long, one hour.
00:46 And we're seeing a quick 2 to 3 inches of snow coming down.
00:49 We've already picked up almost a foot in Davenport, which is just about an hour off to the west here.
00:54 And we're seeing that snow continue just to come down in just absolute torrents of heavy, heavy snow.
01:01 US 30, I just drove down here on.
01:04 A couple of cars off on the median, but as I talked about in the previous hit
01:07 and when we come back live to me here, I'll show you really the one thing that's kind of working in our advantage right now.
01:12 This is going out into the parking lot. Roads right now are just wet,
01:15 but we are expecting winds to increase and the temperatures to decrease.
01:19 So conditions bad now going to get a whole lot worse in the next several hours.
01:24 All right, Tony, we appreciate you being out there in the elements for us.
01:27 And we'll continue to check in with you as the evening goes on.
01:30 Thank you so much.
