00:34 Joker's Headshot - Persona 5 The fact that Akechi, the teenage detective
00:51 of Persona 5, turns out to be a villain isn't too big of a twist, as he makes several slip
00:57 ups leading to the reveal.
00:58 However, while we weren't too surprised by that, we were surprised to see how far his
01:03 treachery took him.
01:05 After Joker is captured by the police, Akechi enters the interrogation room for a bit of
01:10 gloating before shooting him in the head.
01:21 It all turns out to be a ploy by the Phantom Thieves, who knew Akechi would betray them
01:25 and used the metaverse to fake Joker's death.
01:28 But the game does a great job making you think your character has just been murdered, even
01:32 including scenes of your allies reacting to the news.
01:44 The Oven - The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt The possession quest of The Witcher 3 tricks
01:59 you into thinking you've done something horrible.
02:02 After Geralt meets Ceres, she'll express concern that a Jarl is possessed.
02:06 You'll eventually learn that's true; a creature called a Hyme feeds off of his guilty conscience.
02:12 Ceres comes up with a way to trick the Hyme into leaving, but doesn't tell you that requires
02:17 you to throw the Jarl's baby into an oven.
02:24 Every instinct will tell you not to do this, but if you do, the Hyme latches onto Geralt
02:29 before the baby is revealed to be fine, thus fooling the monster into leaving.
02:34 If you don't try to commit infanticide, you'll have to face the Hyme in combat.
02:45 Marika and Radagon are one and the same.
02:49 Elden Ring Elden Ring, like many FromSoftware games,
03:01 is heavy on lore, but light on story.
03:04 Even still, the studio managed to shock every player with this late-game twist.
03:08 Throughout your adventure, you hear about Queen Marika and her husband, Radagon of the
03:13 Golden Order.
03:14 The Queen welcomed conflict into her marriage when she shattered the Elden Ring long before
03:18 the game takes place.
03:20 While Radagon attempted to repair it, Marika was imprisoned.
03:27 However, you don't find out until much later, by either solving a puzzle or during the final
03:36 boss fight, that Radagon was imprisoned with her.
03:39 Not only that, but the two now share a body, with the husband taking control in order to
03:44 vanquish you.
03:52 Everyone is evil, Octopath Traveler 2.
04:05 Much like its predecessor, Octopath Traveler 2 follows eight heroes with their own separate
04:09 storylines to play through.
04:11 However, if you complete them all, you get a reveal no one saw coming.
04:16 You eventually learn of the existence of the Moonshade Order, a cult that worships an evil
04:21 deity.
04:22 Every villain in the personal stories of each character is a member seeking to bring about
04:27 eternal darkness.
04:34 The villains being connected isn't a huge twist, but there are many other NPCs, including
04:40 supportive or friendly ones, who are also revealed to be members.
04:43 It seems the whole world was really out to get you.
04:53 Five year time skip, Fire Emblem Three Houses.
05:07 The first half of this beloved RPG tasks players with teaching, training, and recruiting students
05:12 from three different kingdoms during a time of peace.
05:15 Unfortunately, peace never lasts long.
05:17 A mysterious figure known as the Flame Emperor is mentioned to be causing trouble throughout
05:22 the land, and eventually attacks the monastery everyone currently calls home.
05:27 The Emperor is then revealed to be Edelgard, leader of one of the kingdoms, which would
05:31 be a surprising twist in its own right.
05:38 However, the player is then knocked unconscious in the ensuing conflict, awakening five years
05:46 later to a war-torn world.
05:48 It was a major turning point for the game, and also led to three different storylines
05:52 depending on which house you sided with.
06:04 2B's Death, NieR Automata With a total of 26 endings, five of which
06:15 must be reached to actually beat the game, you can expect plenty of twists and turns
06:20 in NieR Automata.
06:21 But the one that stunned us the most was the demise of the lead character and poster child,
06:27 2B.
06:28 During your third playthrough, 2B will become infected with the Logic Virus, which turns
06:32 machines and androids extremely violent.
06:43 Before she turns, 2B begs another android, A2, for a merciful death.
06:48 A2 obliges while a vengeful 9S bears witness.
06:52 The moment is made more shocking by the fact that there is no do-over for 2B this time,
06:57 and players then take control of A2.
07:07 The True Killer, Disco Elysium
07:25 As you investigate a mercenary's murder in the fictional, somewhat ravaged city of
07:29 Revachol, you'll find Disco Elysium pulling you in several directions.
07:34 Amidst the politics and near-duels, the prime suspect seems to be someone the victim assaulted.
07:40 But the real killer is someone disconnected from most of the plot, an old sniper named
07:45 Yosef.
07:55 He confesses to killing the man out of a mixture of hatred for what he represents, as well
08:00 as jealousy over a sexual relationship.
08:03 But even he isn't fully to blame, as after arresting him, you discover a monster hiding
08:09 nearby.
08:10 Only hinted at through a side story, the Insolentian Phasmid corrupted Yosef's mind through the
08:15 psychoactive chemicals it emits.
08:18 Wild.
08:19 Evelyn's Death, Cyberpunk 2077
08:41 Night City is not a place for happy endings.
08:44 Even still, we weren't expecting Evelyn's to be so sorrowful.
08:48 She first meets her as a contact for a heist, which ends up going pretty far south.
08:53 Because of this, her former allies try to keep her quiet by uploading a powerful virus
08:58 to her cybernetic enhancements.
09:00 Sadly, she survives in a comatose state, and things get far worse.
09:11 After being assaulted multiple times by her employer, she's then sold off to a vicious
09:16 gang of scavengers, who use her to create what are essentially futuristic snuff films
09:21 while still keeping her alive.
09:23 Players may think they're mercifully rescuing her during the disaster-paced quest, but after
09:28 she recovers, Evelyn takes her own life.
09:35 The God of the Underworld, The Forgotten City
09:48 Intriguing from the very first moment, The Forgotten City sees players travel back to
09:52 a Roman city that only holds one cardinal rule.
09:56 If one of its people sins, everyone will be turned to gold.
10:00 Players must investigate the citizens, trying to narrow down the one act that will doom
10:04 them all.
10:05 While it's clear there's some divine power calling the shots here, it goes beyond what
10:10 you'd expect.
10:12 Because you haven't actually traveled back in time at all.
10:15 As a matter of fact, you're in the Underworld.
10:24 The game's fourth and canonical ending sees you meet Pluto, as he's known to the Romans,
10:29 who reveals he and the other gods created this test.
10:33 And the Romans weren't even the first civilization to be tested.
10:49 Flowey is Azrael, Undertale
11:01 Everything about this maniacal flower is surprising, including his origins.
11:06 After exploring the Underground, players piece together that Toriel, the first boss, and
11:11 Asgore, the supposed big bad, were once married.
11:14 But after their child was killed by humans, Asgore swore vengeance.
11:19 He began stealing the souls of children who fell into the Underground, in an attempt to
11:23 destroy a barrier keeping all monsters there.
11:26 However, death was only the beginning for their son, Azrael.
11:35 Only on a pacifist run, where players spare all enemies instead of killing them, will
11:39 you gain access to Alphys' lab.
11:42 Here, you learn that the scientist attempted to resurrect the prince, but could only get
11:46 as far as placing his soul inside a flower.
11:50 To say that the experiment had some unexpected side effects to Azrael's psyche would be
11:56 an understatement.
