How will Kalen DeBoer adapt to recruiting in the Southeastern Conference

00:00 We're talking to Tom Broome of Hoosiersnow.com,
00:02 covered Kalen DeBoer during his time as offensive coordinator.
00:06 You can follow him @tombrewesports.
00:08 The biggest concern I've heard over the last 48 hours,
00:10 every time his name has been floated from the Alabama side is,
00:13 can he recruit?
00:15 Can he get to know the South?
00:16 Can he get to know people in the South and bring in talent?
00:19 Obviously, we hit on it earlier in the program,
00:21 having Coach Saban kind of hanging around might help that.
00:25 But what do you think about his ability to get to know just people as a whole?
00:29 Obviously, Alabama kind of recruits itself to a degree, but just his people,
00:33 skills, and how that relates to recruiting.
00:37 >> Yeah, I think he'll be fine.
00:39 There's obviously adjustments to be made there.
00:41 But I think some of the current recruits,
00:45 especially the offensive guys, are gonna love his system.
00:47 So I think he can recruit the current guys pretty well.
00:51 And even the D commit, I'd be curious to see where that D commit goes,
00:55 things like that.
00:56 But at Indiana, the year he was there, they recruited Florida really hard.
01:02 And then there are two, like the receivers I mentioned earlier,
01:06 Nick Westbrook, Wapphalia, Tampa, Orlando guys, Ty Fryfogle, Mississippi guy.
01:12 They spent a lot of time down in the South too, so he'll do that.
01:15 People are gonna like him, he's just a genuinely good person.
01:19 So that's all part of it too, but yeah, it helps that Alabama does kind of
01:23 recruit itself, but I think he'll be fine.
01:25 It's obviously, this timing is good, cuz I think obviously it looks,
01:30 I haven't looked at Alabama's class really, really close, but it looks pretty full.
01:35 I don't think he needs to worry about anything the next few weeks other than
01:38 keeping people, but they're already enrolled as far as I can tell.
01:42 They're all there, not going anywhere.
01:43 So then how quickly does he dive into the class of 2025?
01:48 And what sort of coaches does he retain on the Alabama staff?
01:51 I'm sure that's gonna be interesting to see for me too.
01:54 I think he'll be just fine.
01:55 He's not the snake oil salesman type guy.
02:01 He's a genuine good guy.
02:03 He'll enjoy being around people, and
02:07 I think you guys will enjoy spending time with him.
02:09 >> We're talking to Tom.
