00:00 First thing, we played a team that I knew was gonna be hard to win the game.
00:07 They're a good team, played hard, very good, impressed defense.
00:13 Got after us, 12-0 run to start the game.
00:17 After that point, when we settled down and we were the aggressors,
00:22 felt like, look, we shot 47% from the field, 53% from three,
00:28 56% from the free throw line, we forced them into 15 turnovers.
00:33 Why did we lose?
00:35 You have to defend and they shoot 54% from the field.
00:39 They shoot 50 from three and they shoot 88 from three.
00:43 If you don't defend, you're not winning.
00:45 That's it.
00:46 Questions?
00:48 >> Kenny, when you say settled down there, I just started out facing the press.
00:53 Was that something you guys weren't expecting to see or
00:56 did it just kind of be just throw off the rhythm?
00:59 >> We worked on it for two days, three days.
01:02 We knew the press was coming.
01:05 We talked about not being tentative versus the press.
01:08 But for the first five, six, seven minutes, we were tentative versus it.
01:12 And they felt it and they created turnovers and got their confidence going.
01:19 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:22 >> Horn, I think, made six threes.
01:24 Were you guys over helping or not rotating fast enough?
01:28 Why was he open as much as he was?
01:29 >> We talked about it all was predicated on Burns.
01:34 We knew that Burns would be a load for us.
01:39 We knew we had to protect Brandon.
01:41 And one of the ways we wanted to protect Brandon was trap the post.
01:45 So we talked about an area on the floor to where we can go and trap.
01:50 There was times when we were nowhere, he was nowhere near that area.
01:54 We went and trapped, we're not in position.
01:57 He makes a three.
01:58 I blame myself for some of that.
02:03 Probably should have let Brandon go mano a mano and fight it out.
02:08 But when he did go mano a mano, he scored four or five times in a row.
02:15 So he's a load.
02:16 We didn't, look, the attention to details to winning basketball is vital.
02:20 The difference between a yard, two yards,
02:25 can be the difference in winning and losing.
02:28 So we're supposed to go when he gets to the lane line.
02:32 We go way before he gets anywhere near the lane line.
02:36 They burn us over and over and over again, so.
02:39 >> Well, yeah, Kenny, I guess that was gonna be my question about the defense.
02:43 So is it more just like attention to detail or is it attitude and
02:47 everything, I guess, is that really what you're saying in those terms?
02:49 >> I'm saying it's attention to detail.
02:52 We worked on it.
02:53 We talked about it.
02:54 We went over it.
02:55 We walked through it this morning.
02:56 Again, there's, when you're in the heat of a battle,
03:02 sometimes you think you wanna go and you go early.
03:06 And you only think about yourself.
03:08 And you don't talk and you just go to a trap.
03:11 They gonna burn you.
03:12 His head is up, his eyes is open.
03:15 He's looking for somebody to pass it to.
03:17 You go early, boom, they make a three.
03:19 >> Kenny, this is not a program that celebrates world victories, but
03:26 what have you seen from your group in the last week?
03:28 >> The big thing is when coaches call me or Kevin before the game said,
03:37 man, I'm not looking forward to playing this game.
03:41 It's showing that we are earning respect, but we gotta finish it off.
03:45 What would it feel like for
03:49 those dudes in the locker room if we win this game?
03:52 Do you understand the statement it would make?
03:54 I know we're getting better.
03:57 I feel we're getting better.
03:59 I know we're doing the right things for these young people.
04:02 But we need to make sure that they understand that little things matter.
04:08 And winning and losing comes down to a bunch of little things.
04:14 >> In what ways do you feel like you guys are maybe beginning to turn the corner?
04:18 It seems like the contributions from Curtis and
04:21 Caleb off the bench were pretty big and Mike has been big.
04:24 >> I think at first you can see all the guys from Brandon having dominant moments.
04:32 Curtis, like you said, has hit some good shots, but
04:35 then the floor of the offense not forcing them.
04:38 Caleb is rebounding the ball, has done a good job of rebounding,
04:41 playing, bringing physicality to us.
04:43 Tyler brings us in spurs.
04:47 It has to be more from each one of those guys.
04:50 We can't have a guy have a moment or two where it's lacked.
04:56 And when that moment or two happens, we're not as good.
05:01 We don't have the wiggle room to make mistake after mistake after mistake.
05:05 So we have to make sure that we're in tune.
05:07 We can't afford to get that team, a 12 over on us.
05:13 We can't afford it.
05:14 That's a good team.
05:15 A well coached good team.
05:16 They feed off of that kind of play.
05:18 >> Coach, it was a noticeable change in energy just in the arena as a whole
05:24 to actually have home court advantage here and to feel that from the fans.
05:27 What kind of impact did that have on your team and
05:30 ultimately throughout the game as well?
05:31 >> Major, I think these kids need to see the fans in here like they were tonight or
05:36 today.
05:37 They need to cheer them on.
05:40 They need to help them fight harder.
05:42 And they need to get out there and we don't fight hard.
05:45 It's what, when we go to these other arenas and we watch these teams and
05:52 we play and we're competing against these teams, that's what their arenas feel like.
05:57 We need to let our people know and know the people that walk in here.
06:01 That's why you're important.
06:02 You're vital to this.
06:04 And these kids need you.
06:05 >> Anything else for coach?
06:08 >> All right.
06:10 >> All right.
